OMG!! I Heart Anggun!! I collect her stuff, in a hardcore way. She is utterly brilliant and beautiful. I have 2 of her CDs, “Anggun” and “Chrysalis” (even better), and 2 of her singles. I know she has a brand new album in the US that is the soundtrack to a movie, I forgot what it is called, but the details are on the Sony Music site.
I LOVE her voice, like an exotic Annie Lennox, as well as her songwriting, and I saw her live in NYC once, opening for the Corrs, and she was AMAZING live, really captivating, with a really cute, sweet personality, taking pictures of the audience. I wanted to meet her really bad, but she left the venue early, before the Corrs came on stage.
And, this might be hard to believe, but she has 4 or 5 early albums, and they were, like, heavy metal, like Metallica or Guns N Roses or a harder-edged Bon Jovi, but I saw in an interview, that that was just a phase she went through. I don’t have those early records, none avauilable on CD, just tapes, but I’d love to hear them!!

@ powerpoplarry
guess what, Anggun is Indonesian and so am I. she’s my idol when I was little. you’re right she did lots of Rock song. she was so famous in my country at 80’s. I’m proud of her, the ONLY Indonesian artist who can be international artist. I hope i could be the next one :) not as an singer, but maybe a movie star or model ? lol! I guess I dream too much :)
powerpoplarry said on March 10, 2003 09:22:
Yes Majdy, I know you and Anggun are both Indonesian. She is sooo freaking BEAUTIFUL, but taken, as she’s married to this French dude and living in Paris. I’d love to see a pic of you, but I know you’re taken as well, by another American guy just like me.
Um, do you have any of Anggun’s early rock records?? I’d love to have copies of them. If not, no big whoop.
Majdy said on March 10, 2003 13:35:
I used to have her albums, but not all of them because I was still little and didn’t know how to keep things :). but few days ago, I saw her best album (the indonesian one) on the record store. but it’s on casette, not on CD player. I don’t remember which store, but if you really interested, I’ll be glad to help.
anyway, Anggun has seperated with his french husband, now she’s with Canadian guy. So, she’s got taken again.
wanna see my pic? I’ll email that to you... But I want to see your pic too.
here’s my email :[email protected].

i thought snow on the saharah was originally sung by natalie cole
powerpoplarry said on March 10, 2003 21:35:
Nope coy, “Snow On The Sahara” was done by the one and only Anggun. Why’d you think Natalie Cole?? They sound nothing alike!! If you said Annie Lennox, I would understand, but Natalie?? No way, but hey, everyone makes mistakes.
And hey Majdy!! Thanks for being great. Yes, I’ll email you soon, I’d love to see your pic, and that would be awesome if you could help in getting her early records. As I said, I know you’re taken, but as I say to many people, all the good ones are taken. Are you happy?? I hope so...

No Santi, Michel Cretu, aka Enigma, is not at all involved with Anggun’s records, although I can hear similarities.
BUT, Anggun has sung on tracks by Deep Forest (a similar French studio group), as well as DJ Cam.
Santi said on March 10, 2003 22:06:
No Larry. Enigma composed that song and it’s performed by Anggun. Get info on the net.
powerpoplarry said on March 11, 2003 06:30:
Hey Majdy, I got your email too!! Thx!! And Santi, are you SURE that Michael Cretu composed that song?? Nothing about him in the album credits whatsoever. Sure what you read was not a rumour?? Many things posted on the net are basically rumours, not the truth. If it can be proven, I’d love to see it. That’s not even Anggun’s best song either, really.
powerpoplarry said on March 12, 2003 09:41:
Woah Santi, you had me kinda worried there!! That’s OK with your mistake, we all make em, even me, haha!! Anggun rules!!

Angun have a great song called “a rose in the wind”
from the 1st time i have heared i mean it was marie!
sorry my english is not so god.
powerpoplarry said on March 13, 2003 07:43:
Yes, “A Rose In The Wind” is a lovely song too, and yes, I hear similarities to Marie there. Does anyone here know her last album, 2000’s “Chrysalis”?? I thought it was even better than “Anggun” with “Snow On The Sahara”!! The title track was a great single; the opening song “Still Reminds Me” is a masterpiece, and yet “Tears Of Sorrow” and “Non-Angelical” are possibly her 2 best songs!!
Also, on the “Anggun” record, she does a KILLER cover of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars”, which is as good, or even BETTER than Bowie’s recording, which is nearly impossible!!
Majdy said on March 14, 2003 02:18:
My fav from her is Roses In The Wind. She also looked prettier there ...
hotblooder said on March 25, 2003 08:08:
I still love her Indonesian version songs like “Kembali (A rose in a wind for English version), Tua-tua keladi and Cinta Di Kota Tua. She was living in a same town and same valley with me when she was in Jakarta before get married with her manager ( Now she’s divorced, poor :(..)
