Are you guys into reading?
I did a lot when I was about 12.
My faves were any books by Enid Blyton and later Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes stories.
Now I only read some newspapers :D
Jud (moderator) said on January 30, 2003 22:17:

I also liked the Enid, Agatha.. books :) Also The lord of the rings...and lately i have read “La colmena” by Jose Cela and “Cronica de una muerte anunciada” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
the last book i read is “Tender is the night” in English, found it a bit weird, but well :P

I like to juggle 3 or 4 books at a time, right now it’s The Mothman Prophesies by John Keel, The Hours by Michael Cunningham, and The Promised Land by Pierre Burton, a Canadian historian :-)
I must confess that I like that Harry Potter crap, too. It’s surprisingly well written for a children’s book, and a guilty pleasure :-)

“The Hunt For Red October” - Tells more information about the fate of Marko Ramius’s wife in the book.
Twilight-Ghost said on January 31, 2003 18:00:
I love any vampire books.
Anne Rice, Bram Stoker, Christopher Pike, Christopher Golden (borrowed characters: Spike and Dru) and many more.
I also love crime, mystery, horror books and some romance books now and then.
I also like books that has any intersting facts about anything.
I would have liked any books about Roxette, but I don’t have any.
............
Also, did you know that the duo ’Savage Garden’ got their name from one of Anne Rice’s book???
I think it was Darren Hayes who thought of the name because he was the one who likes to read Anne Rice’s books.
Stormkeeper said on January 31, 2003 18:25:
hmmmm...The Hunt For Red October and Anne Rice...hmmmmm... sounds familiar to me.
Twilight-Ghost said on February 1, 2003 15:40:
@Stormkeeper
Well to jog your memory.
Have you heard of the movie ’Interview with the Vampire” and “Queen of the Damned” ???
Those movies are based on Anne Rice’s books.
Once you read Anne Rice’s books you’ll like the vampire Lestat. Lestat referred to a world that is a “savage garden”. To explain what “savage garden” mean will make this post quite long and I won’t bore you with that. Not unless if you want me to.
Anyway, I think that’s where Darren Hayes got the name of their band because he likes reading Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles”.
vaxjoe said on February 1, 2003 15:47:
heyyyyyyyyy INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE and QUEEN OF THE DAMNED are my favourite films!
the soundtrack of Queen.... rox too!
twilight ghost i also have news on the other story i was telling you :)
vaxjoe said on February 1, 2003 15:48:
oh i have to say i had read the vampire book b4 the movie ...cause i sounded a bit irrelavant b4 :p
Twilight-Ghost said on February 1, 2003 15:59:
Hello Vaxjoe,
Yes. I love those movies too.
It is my favourite. I really love Anne Rice. Do you know that there fans who celebrates her character “Lestat” once in a year. I think they have a social gathering (a ball or something) every halloween.
.... and Lestat is only a character. Even Anne Rice jokes that people have this social gathering for Lestat but not for her (the writer).
So, what’s the news you wanted to tell me??? Was it something to do with your post in ’Song of the Day’???
vaxjoe said on February 1, 2003 16:03:
i like lestat the way he was portrayed in Queen...better...
hey i wanted to tell u this for days! remember the story with life in mono?
after we had that discussion i wanted to find my friend back! but i had nothing no number no email...so i emailed his company (a bit embarrasing) and they promised they would help me...so after a week i received an email from him yeahhhhhhh!!!! now we re in touch again...i wanna thank u cause if u hadnt reminded me all that with that song maybe still i would be in the dark and so would he ..*kisses*
Twilight-Ghost said on February 1, 2003 16:15:
WOW! That’s good news Vaxjoe.
I’ve always believed that there is a reason for everything. We are meant to be a Roxette fans so we could meet (in this forum) and I could remind you about your friend.
I’m very happy for you =)
If there are more news tell me (but only if you want - I don’t want to intrude into your private life).
.....................
Also, I totally agree about Lestat in “Queen”. He was better and younger. Lestat is suppose to be 20 years old when he became a vampire right. So, Stuart Townsend is a more realistic choice than Tom Cruise in “Interview”. But both movies are good. “Interview” has a bit of a humour in it. But Stuart has more charisma playing as Lestat than Tom Cruise don’t you think?
Next vampire book I’m going to buy and read (of course) is called “The Vampire Vivienne” by Karen E. Taylor. I mean I’ve always loved vampire characters and Vivienne (exactly the way it was spelt) is my first name. What a coincidence.
vaxjoe said on February 1, 2003 16:21:
i now i believe that too and also that if u want something bad then the universe helps u to get it!
i think tom cruise was bad for the role...i expected someone TALL and someone who could take your breath away , a dominating presence if i can say that...tom is short and always the good boy
...so in interview for me Brad Pitt wins by far!
now in Queen..thats exactly the lestat u wait for! looks+character :)
well my friend said that my email travelled halfway around the world b4 he got and that hes excited that we re back in touch again!
Stormkeeper said on February 19, 2003 09:02:
I know many of you are into LOTR / Potter, I´m curious which one do you usually find better one, book or a movie for a same story?
LittleSpooky said on February 19, 2003 09:13:
“Hunt For Red October” was also a movie starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, James Earl Jones, Gates McFadden and a few other “names”.
I recommend both the movie AND the book. Read the book AFTER the movie though. That way, you’ll understand and have a visual of what’s going on as you’re reading. Like I said, they talk about the death of Marko Ramius’s wife in the movie, but in the book, they tell you HOW she died (it was a ruptured appendix that was caught too late). One of MANY things. Some would say to read the book first. If you’ve never experienced Tom Clancy’s books, you’d be better off watching the movie first.
Oh, and so you know, Jack Ryan (character in the books / movies) is a fave of Clancy. Ryan’s stories go like this:
Sum Of All Fears (how Ryan got into the CIA)
Clear And Present Danger
Patriot Games
Hunt For Red October is the final story of sorts. However, the movie release goes differently:
Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, Hunt For Red October, and then Sum of All Fears.

To all Harry Potter fans:
Found the following text in an ad in our newspaper (Switzerland):
J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, release date June 21st 2003, 768 pages.
Extract:
Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses: “It is time,” he said “for me to tell you what I should have told you five years agou, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything...”
misterious, hu? (-;

Judith—Gabriel Garcia Marquez! I read Chronicle of a Death Fortold years ago when I was reading a lot of his stuff. Have you read Love In the Time of Cholera? His prose, translated into english, is exquisite. I assume it’s even more beautiful in Spanish. I understand he’s got a new fiction novella out soon, the first in about a decade.
I’ve also been sucked in into the Harry Potter books. I’m on Phoenix right now. Goblet of Fire was sooooooooo gooooood!
Remembering Babylon—David Malouf was so lovely, one of my favorites. Excellent writer.
The God of Small Things—Arundhati Roy. Donna Tartt, E. M. Forster, Julian Barnes, Douglas Adams, Elizabeth McCracken, Patricia Highsmith, Nicola Barker’s Wide Open. . .
Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next series is also rather entertaining. Like Douglass Adams with a literary twist.
If you like mysteries, Laura Joh Rowland’s samurai detective series is enjoyable, very evocative of feudal Japan, and very well plotted.
