FROM ATAY TO ON

Don‘t you all think, that the time between ATAY and ON went very fast. It‘s like yesterday i‘ve heard ATAY for the first time. and today ON. :-)

same feeling! I am counting the time with Rox related events :)

Well, that’s easy to say if you live in a country where it hasn’t been released and therefore not been played on the radio! If I turned on the radio, it was almost impossible to not hear ATAY... basically it was played as often as the songs that made it into the Top 20 of the sales charts - I wouldn’t call it “such a flop” at all!
siggi27 said on January 27, 2003 16:32:
yes....in germany it was almost impossible to, not to hear it. radiostations and viva played it very often. i don‘t think so too, that this was a flop.
siggi27 said on January 27, 2003 17:03:
and what do you think, who decides to play a song? i think, poeple who wanna to listen it. and that‘s no success for a band? lol
Starrox said on January 27, 2003 17:12:
Think I have to clear something up: unlike the Billboard charts, the German single charts are based _only_ on sales - radio airplay has no direct impact on them at all! So as the airplay and the “normal” single charts are two totally different charts, any song that makes it into the Top 20 of one of them really can’t be considered a flop! Especially not if it also managed to get into the Top 40 of the sales charts (don’t ask me why, but Top 40 are considered good)...

offcourse, they don‘t have success like it was to the end of the 80‘s and the early 90‘s but they are back. and i remember that per said, that roxette don‘t release records anymore for success. only music they wanna play. they‘ve made enough cash. :-)

no actually soundscan radio play lists are made up of either high selling singles or popular local artists..thats why in nj bon jovi has a good playing on radio...eminem in detroit...etc

@coyboy How come mass radio play doesn’t = success? Can you please tell me how can someone get famous and well-known if he’s not on the radio playlists?
And also what about the Billboard Top 100, isn’t it an airplay chart?
Rox On!
Starrox said on January 27, 2003 17:35:
AFAIK, the Billboard Top 100 are based on both airplay and sales... that’s why singles don’t have to be released commercially to make it to #1 - absolutely impossible here!
Oh, and while I’m at it: back in the Joyride days, German singles charts were still partly based on airplay, too! So you can’t really compare those charts results with the ones since HAND...
siggi27 said on January 27, 2003 17:48:
well, per should write more flops. so we get more material to listen. ervery month a new single. coyboyusa thank you. :-))))

yeah, ATAY starting charting in mid/late September and has now dropped from a peak of over 100 charts to ~30-40. It’s clearly on the out, at least on most stations. By the time ON starts to get heavy airplay, ATAY will be gone from most airplay charts. Pretty good timing if you ask me. Although it would have been nice to release another ballad now, and puch OppNox to the spring time. Oh well, at least we got new Rox material earlier this way:)
siggi27 said on January 27, 2003 17:53:
yes, 100 flops and one of them is number one in the charts. :-))))
Starrox said on January 27, 2003 03:53:
Yeah, I think so, too... but in fact, we’re talking about exactly 20 weeks here!
