US and UK will get promo ’round valentines day...if Per, Marie and management want to go ahead with it (with Marie being the most important thing)...looks like a sit and wait scenario.

The promo I’m wondering about is a single release. Does Capitol plan on even sending “A Thing About You” to radio in the USA?
What’s the point of putting out the album without having a single at radio?
I’m going to e-mail Capitol right now and see if I can get a reply.

Well, hopefully it doesn’t receive the same promotion C!B!B! did. I heard the song once on the radio, and then I saw the commercial with Garth Brooks hawking it and a couple of other albumns for McDonalds.
And then, when I called the radio station to play the song again (only two days after hearing it the first time) THEY COULDN’T FIND IT!!!
Does US single promotion mean they can only play the song once and then they must send the single back to EMI???
I didn’t even know that TBH was going to be out this month. YEESH!!!
Cheers,

actually cbb in the beginng...the album...got descent promotion here...sleeping in my car was a radio hit here in nyc...it was z100’s fastest climbing single of the year...but when the original album release date was puished back...noone botherd to pay attention to the song. cbb was played very heavily here on the east coast on ac stations....it had so much potential...it was also featured in a ad for the wiz with animation very different from the cbb video...i wish i had recorded it

Promotion can be done without Ms. Fredriksson leaving Sweden, or her home for that matter. That is a concern on all levels. The internet is a vehicle that can be used for promotion. Conferences (video, chat, or otherwise) can be set up. Live feeds done from Sweden. While that reaches a limited market, this is a start. God knows I want Ms. Fredriksson to recover and not suffer a set back, we all do.
This is why I’m putting this idea out here. Get a computer, get a Web Cam (you can find those turkeys out there just about EVERYWHERE), and set up NetMeeting or whatever program you need, contact the Programming Managers of several radio stations, and put them and us to good use. The fans are an untapped talent, I think, when it comes to promotions.
With the right “assistance”, the fans could get the word out on the streets. RNAF from DBU2000 did an excellent job, despite the lack of help from Edel. Face it, they couldn’t handle what was demanded of them and they folded like a house of cards. Now, it’s looking like Capitol (see EMI) is doing the same thing again. I swear it’s like they just want to finish out Roxette’s contract and then drop them.
Low record sales aren’t helping.... *gets down off the soap box*
Look, the idea is: Use us!!!! We’d be more than happy to help you out. I’m willing to VOLUNTEER my off hours to do this. No charge! No fee! If anything, I’ll pay for what I can out of my own pocket. As long as the costs aren’t astronomical, that is. I just need the help of Capitol / EMI / Radio Stations. I can get the man power. Most RNAF-ers are set ready to go, just waiting for the word.
So... Now I’ve spoken (like that means much *lol*). These are my thoughts.

I had an Idea for the DBUGTTC 2000 US promotion. I got some good feedback but it never eventuated.
Create an online Press release. Only fans have the real info.
Create an Up to Date & Correct biography.
A recent Discography [HAND - TBH]
Some High Quality Promotional Pictures
Some high Quality Mp3 Samples of the songs & perhaps some streaming files.
If Possible the video of ATAY
Any Promotional Interviews for TBH etc.
Release Dates/Appearance Dates.
You get the Idea
Then what you do is you email the link along with a cover letter to every Pop/AC/Rock radio station we can.
If they want the song send them a promo or a burnt cd or a high Quality Mp3.
Then Hopefully if some stations start playing it, it might snowball into something bigger.
Cheers
Dave

I e-mailed Capitol USA last night. Maybe I’ll get a reply!
It’s great to see some discussion finally about ‘The Ballad Hits.’ Then again, with an album that’s coming out January 28 and not hearing a word about any single release or promotion, what else can I expect? I was really hoping this would be a nice shot for Roxette and the fans could really help out, but it looks like it will come out, flop, and
again Roxette will be forgotten. :(
I really like what Littlespooky has to say. Use the fans!! Many acts have “online street teams” to help promote the latest album, single, etc. The fans can become a key part of an act’s success. Now if we could just get some direction from the record company, maybe we could help. But that doesn’t even seem likely now.
Also, Dave has a good idea as well. However, do we do this only if we know a single is going to radio? Will radio even touch a single that is not being promoted by the record company?

I sent emi capital an email from their site(?) www.emicap.com, but have not heard anything, it’s been a week now ... I don’t see the album listed under roxette on their site either.

I think some people have misunderstood some things, or perhaps I have.
From what I understand Roxette is only releasing “A thing about you” not the album. Unless anyone knows more detail out there, I know someone does.
Mfan28179-Jason said on January 6, 2003 07:17:
Royalball, where did you hear that?
You mean just commercially release “A Thing About You” as a single? Perhaps. But with a dead singles market, record companies are out to sell albums - unless the single is a test for the market.
Once again, both Amazon.com and VH-1.com have ’The Ballad Hits’ album slated for release in the USA on January 28. So, unless things have been changed or the information is wrong, it looks like the album will be released.
LittleSpooky said on January 6, 2003 07:17:
Royalball: It is, however BOTH Amazon.com and VH-1 list the whole album as a release. However, most singles don’t sell well in the US without MAJOR promotion and backing for them. And no one I’ve talked to in SLC seems to know ANYTHING about ATAY being released on the 28th of January OR around Valentine’s Day. So, therein lies the quandry.
Not to mention the fact that if Capitol / EMI is basing release of TBH on the results from the sales figures of ATAY, people in the US / UK are quite thoroughly screwed. We won’t see it. It’s just that simple. I still stand behind the ideas posted here to promote that single / album.
PS - “They intend to release the single on or just before Valentine’s Day, 2003 – *and to market the “Hits” albums as well.*” Taken from News Archive of TDR October 28, 2002, poster’s emphasis marked by *s

Well good luck, if you guys need a hand let me know.
Dave
P.S. Another thing HAND was a very popular download among College Students in the US, perhaps if you know some, you could send it to them and pretty soon it might spread around the Campuses around America.

Well, I am living in Ireland, and for what the Music Industry concerns, Ireland is always counted as part of the UK... so, does anybody have any suggestions on what I could do to promote Roxette in Ireland?? I mean, I am just a single person, so what do you guys think? Any Ideas???

of course not. Wishful thinking.
