The tumor changed Marie’s life

STOCKHOLM - In an open hearted interview with TV4's Lasse Bengtsson Marie Fredriksson reveals that the tumor took away her sight on the right eye. "I bump into things all the time, it takes a long time to get used to," Marie says to Lasse. Marie also says that she finally got a clean bill of health last summer, and that's when everything changed, she became a new person. When the cancer was at its worst Marie almost didn't have the energy to get out of bed, let alone write! "The worst thing was that I didn't even want to sing. It's definitely a kick to be back." However, these last years the singing and writing have been secondary to her new art form - drawing. Marie says it's a world of difference. "I've been singing all my life, I did that part already. This is the total freedom."
This time around Marie has used colors in her drawings, but confides in Lasse that she's already sick of colors and that she constantly goes back to charcoal. "It's different day to day" she giggles.
When Lasse asks about Roxette Marie says she lives in the now, and enjoys that immensely, but also tells him that she and Per discuss possible Roxette projects constantly. She definitely thinks that Roxette will do something in the future. The doors are still not closed. "Maybe something smaller, I mean the stages were so huge and I ran across them! I was crazy back then" Marie says and laughs.

She lost the site on her eye for good, or it;s only temporary? I think it all depends on the medications she is on before doing a project like Roxette new album, cause she needs her fully strength to sing powerful as before.

I’m sorry to hear about her eye sight, but she’s still strong and great, numerous people supporting her and wishing her health and happiness, whatever she’ll do,even give up singing. but I’m happy to hear I would have another chance to hear her singing in roxette, like in old times. I love you Marie and wish you the best.

Marie...don´t regret the old times. We all know you were crazy at those huge stages...but that´s what makes the difference between regular singers and the complete artist. And that´s how the music world and all your fans will remember you: at one of the best musical entertainer. But all above this, like a example of a big person. You are incomparable. I´m really emotioned...we all love you!!

Can’t wait for the Roxette comeback (whenever that may be). I’m excited that she mentions touring actually, as although I thought they may make another album at some point I didnt think they would tour again. It’s great that marie feels so healthy and seems so happy

Im so glad to hear that maree is happy and contented with her life. She deserves all the happyness in the world. To be contented in her life is a fantastic thing. The freedom she now describes must be an absolutley amazing experience for her.
And she must be feeling re energized to be talking about Roxette again, saying
. “She definitely thinks that Roxette will do something in the future. The doors are still not closed. “Maybe something smaller, I mean the stages were so huge and I ran across them! I was crazy back then”.
This indicates to me she must just be feeling something she has’nt felt in a long time.
Well I have to say with this news about Maree, and for Roxette, Its made my day.
I wish her all the best, and I now have a Roxette future hopefully to listen to.
All the best guys.

I don’t think she lost her voice due to the illness or the medication she has been taking. It started long time ago, in the middle 90’s. So I am afraid the power of her voice will never come back again. It’s not the same when you are 50.
I still don’t get what’s new here. She said almost the same when her first exhibition took place (that the illness is gone, the doors are still open for Roxette and so on). This doesn’t make my day after all, she didn’t say anything we did not know.

I think, neither of us can imagine what long way Marie had to go till she got healthy and happy. She lost the sight of her right eye! But I know Marie, that you are the fighter. I really hope to see you and Per together as Roxette! Yes, you are a crazy performer. No one can beat you on stage!

of course such agressive medicine affects the voice and every other part of your body.
I remember reading about cancer treatment Melissa Etheridge went through as well. She mentioned after some weeks of chemo/radiotherapy she felt her voice was affected and also her fingers (to play guitar) so she requested the doctors to change the therapy as she couldn’t imagine herself not singing/playing ever again.
I suppose it wasn’t different for Marie.
Sunshine-Marie :)

Nice article.Terrible to hear about her losing her sight in her right eye, up till now it’s always been said she had troubles seeing etc.
Marie seems to be really happy with where she is right now, which is great. The fact that she is willing to work with Rox again is a bonus. Even moreso how Marie seems to always talk of touring?!
Interesting how they’re discussing possible projects constantly? I wonder who is pushing more?
I guess now they’re just trying to find the right time and material to put something together?

If she will ever do something again with ROXETTE, I hope, that she will take all the time she needs and doesn´t hurry, just to please the waiting fans. Her health is much more important than another ROX-song!!!!

Who cares if she is jumping on stage or not. The best thing about Marie is that she radiates love and positive energy. And this is so genuine and people feel it. That is her strength and her magic. WE LOVE YOU MARIE!!!
pgahiwatt said on February 18, 2008 21:13:
I agree. Some people are just so selfish and dont realise what she’s been through-they just want bigger, better and more all the time.As far as i am concerned, anything new is a bonus,as long as it’s worth doing.I was not too fussed about ’One Wish’-to me it seemed like a bit of a fan husher and a tune to accompany the Rox Box/20th anniversary release-in fact i thought it was quite weak in comparison to some of Per’s previous works. My point is,if anything new comes along,i hope it is 100% because they WANT to,not because they feel they NEED to or are pestered to do so.I would just like the Abbey Road ’95 sessions, myself as promised for the ’Box’.The snippet of ’The Look’ on the doco sounded great.Peace and Love to you all.
