Release day in the U.S.A! Please report your experiences...

Wanting the lowest price, I headed this morning to WalMart to pick up the new CD...not a one to be found. So then I went next door to Circuit City. I quickly perused the new release rack...nothing. So I went to the aisle, found ’R’ and saw no Roxette listed...they no longer even have their own divider :-( Buried all the way to the back in the generic ’R’ section was one lone copy of Hits...just one...no other Roxette CD in sight. It was kind of sad and to irk me even more, the version they had didn’t include the DVD. I paid $13.99 + tax. I’ll hit some real record stores later today to see what they have and perhaps I’ll buy another copy if I can find one with the DVD.

Won’t be able to make it out of the house until later tonight... but you people can check borders.com for actual in-store availability. It looks like my local store has the CD/DVD version in stock, so I hope it stays there til I can get it.
meradi said on January 16, 2007 18:13:
Also you can do the same thing at best buy’s website. Looks like my local store has it there too (and cheaper than border’s). Yay!

Meradi, I just went out again to search for the deluxe DVD edition and found a wild variation in pricing and availabilty. Borders has only the CD and they want $18.99. My store had one in stock with no special attention paid to its release today. I then went to Best Buy and they had yet again, only one CD, and they wanted an outrageous $23.99! Yikes! Get this, just as I’m looking for the CD in Best Buy guess what comes on the in-store radio? A promotion for Roxette’s Hits CD. They played The Look and mentioned its availability several times...funny that the store itself did no special new release feature of the CD, they just stashed their one copy away with the only other Rox CD they had, Ballad Hits. One more Best Buy tidbit...they employee I asked about the DVD version said they could it order it for me for $11.99 plus $1.79 shipping! How rediculous! The DVD version is $12 cheaper than just getting the CD at Best Buy. So, then I went to FYE. They were the only store that had both the CD and DVD versions in stock...not featured with new releases, but they did stack them on top of the ’R’ section of the aisle for easy viewing. They wanted $18.99 for the CD and $26.99 for the DVD version. So I couldn’t resist and bought the DVD version even though it’s a complete rip off price.
meradi said on January 16, 2007 20:23:
Yeah - I noticed on best buy’s site that the DVD version was 11.99. I don’t recall the exact price on the CD-only but recall it was higher. I hope the local store indeed has the dvd in stock, and i hope to hear some good music while at the store.
My poor wife is really dying for the day Rox stops releasing stuff!

Manufactured by Capitol Records, Inc., 1750 Vine Street, Hollywood, California 90028.

As expected Capitol Records will have NO promotion and are simply “just” releasing the album. However, the Rox-Medley is having high rotation in several radio stations in Miami and some are playing “One Wish”. If maybe the record label pushes it...it may catch some attention...

Well I have to say that I am pleased, every store I went to Walmart, Best Buy, FYE and Circuit City had at least five or six copies. Walmart had the CD in the new releases section. The only store that had the CD with DVD was FYE, and they made a mistake! They labeled the single CD 27.99 and the CD/DVD 18.99. HAHA So of course I bought the CD/DVD. And I have to say I disagree with what everyone’s been saying, the DVD is decent quality, especially “A Thing About You”.....the quality is near perfect. Im pleased. Of course, I would be more pleased, if there was promotion and new songs on the radio, but I was surprised.

Hey guys,
Great to hear the updates from the US. Keep them coming.
I found this little mention of Roxette on the Voice of America website. http://www.voanews.com/english/Entertainment/2007-01-16-voa53.cfm

Went to Best Buy tonight. They had (in the regular Roxette section) one copy of the CD/DVD and several copies of just the CD. They also had on display in a special section at the end of the aisle a few more of the CD/DVD (and on sale, for $11.99 plus tax). There were other CDs in that special section, so my wife moved the Roxette ones to the top so they’d be the most visible. Seems like at least a few of the Roxette CDs were sold today, which amazed me since I live in a not-so-big town.
Just watched a few videos, they’re great (though I wish the big L. had been on there since that video amuses me).
And they could have maybe included One Wish, since we had such a late release date. Not complaining too much though!

Seems to be similar to Australia, where some shops would stock 6 or 7 of the album, while others would only have one or none.

I’d be quite surprised if they remastered the DVD just for the USA release.
What type/size of TV are you watching on?

I got the Hits CD at Borders for $13.29.
The packaging/jewel case seems to be the same, however, it has round purple sitcker on that says “Featuring the Smash Hits: The Look, Listen To Your Heart, It Must Have Been Love Plus 2 New Tracks including One Wish”. On the actual jewel case there a FBI Anti-Pirace Warning logo with the US Department of Justice seal amd a sentance taht reads “FBI Anti-Pirece warning: Unauthorized copying is punishable under federal law”.
Also, instead of saying it’s by EMI, it says that is by Capitol Records.
And as mentioned in a above post, the address of where the CD was manufactored is stated “Manufactured by Capitol Records Inc 1750 Vine Street Holywood California 90028” (Printed in the USA)
Take care!

Like sylviah, I’m wondering where in the heck is Per? I stay pretty tuned into the media scene like TV, newspapers and magazines and I’ve seen NOTHING about Roxette or Per. To give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he’s taping interviews for later playback but Tuesday would have been the day to hear from Per in the U.S. and there was not a sound! Weird, isn’t it?
shammes said on January 17, 2007 17:34:
Carlos,
You got the CD at an excellent price! I’m surprised that these big chain stores like Borders all wouldn’t charge the same price. My Borders wanted $18.99 for the basic CD version.
Roxrider_USA said on January 17, 2007 18:18:
Yes. It’s strage and we don’t get any news about where Per would be going. We just ahve to stay lost unfortunatelly.
Concerning the price it was pretty good for real.
Nice too see many of us US fans posting here so often together. :- )
Take care!

Yeah, in fact, it’s great that such a number of fans is trying to push roxette in the US.
As non-US-boy, I’m just asking myself whether just hiphop,r’n’b,and so on exist on your side of the big sea. but regarding this conversation shows me that there are still some music friends over there (even rox-freaks)...

I wouldn’t be surprised if Per pops up on the Howard Stern Show as they are both on Sirius.

Roxette’s Hits is currently listed on the New Releases section of iTunes (US). By default, it sorts by Featured, and it’s landing on the first page of the New Releases page, so that’s good.

hits was already available in decembre at my store...by EMI canada?? didn’t buy cause it was the CD version and i didn’t care at all
