Hot In the US? ...Or Not?

So what are everybody’s guesses? Will “Hits” become a success or will it just become something that DBU2000 did...Somewhat hype but a big failure?

Barring some sort of miracle, Roxette’s Hits CD will be largely ignored here in the States. For instance, I can’t find a single record store that has the Roxette CD listed on their upcoming release board. As a matter of fact, no one has it listed as being January 16th other than the online stores that are selling it. Hell, even their own record label’s web site doesn’t have a release date listed! Billboard.com? Nope. It’s as if it doesn’t exist and sadly it will likely remain that way.

It’s just one more hits package. No enough exciting to be a “hit”. I would be more worried if it would be a studio album.

Roxette is not likely to be hot again in the US. They have been forgotten. But if Capitol is willing to do some promotion this time around, they can at least recapture the hearts of the millions of fans in the US and get them to buy this new album. Roxette will not be “popular” again unless they have another big hit like WICF with adequate promotion in the US. They will however have a following, how big of a following, depends on how much effort Capitol puts in to refresh peoples’ memories of them.
So far, I have seen nothing from Capitol other than getting the music suppliers send the CDs to the stores to stock. A week before the release date, there’s not even a press release from Capitol talking about the release.

Well, It must have been love...listen to your heart...joyride...sleeping in my car...get a certain attention here but i don’t think anybody realy remember ROXETTE as they were as artist...but when they hear them i know that a lot of people use to say...oh love this one!! so they should work most on their music side then the ’image’ side ’cause nobody remember what ROXETTE WAS...

I think the sales of the release are really going to depend on the list price. Recent Capitol “hits” compilations from Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis & The News, Ricky Nelson, and Poison (to name a few) have all sold quite well for hits collections, charting on the Billboard 200 Albums tally, mostly due to the discounted pricing and generous tracklisting (often around 20 songs). I’ve seen all of these packages go for $9.99 the first week out and continue with the special pricing several times weeks after the release. I bought the Benatar release for $7.99! I didn’t even know the Huey Lewis compilation was coming out until I saw it in Best Buy’s ad for $9.99 the Tuesday before it’s release. If ’Roxette Hits’ gets a spot in some ads and is properly displayed as a new sale item it has the potential to do quite well, in my opinion. Let’s hope this is the case.

We have to wait until a few weeks afther Jan 16, which is when the Hits CD will be released here in the US. Hopefully it does better than the DBU US version.
Take care!
