Ace of Base

Ace of Base comes next year with a new Album and a World Tour back.

She sales 30 Million Album and 15 Million Singles.
Rox sales 50 million Albums and 25 Million Singles.

Rox is the 2 biggest Band in Sweden
Ace of Base 3 Biggest Band in Sweden

What du you mean?

Have Ace of Base more Fans in the World than Roxette?

Would Ace of Base Number 2 in Sweden? and Roxette Number 3?

Well 23 million out of the 30 Millon came from Happy Nation, Ace of Base’s 3rd album. I believe The Bridge sold about 5m, so their popularity really only lasted about 2 or possibly 3 years. Rox was at their peak since 1989 till 1995 really, not counting USA.

I would say that Roxette is bigger today than Ace of Base are, without a doubt!

I don’t think there’s a competition between Roxette and Ace of Base. Their potential audiences are very different. Regardless their sales figures, I think Roxette have a bigger prestige as musicians, for their longer career (20 years!!) Besides, Per and Marie’s solo careers reinforce this even more.

By the way, I don’t think I’ll get the new Ace of Base album. They’re a totaly uninteresting band for me.

Autopsy of an Ace of Base album:

A) 1 or 2 decent songs, quite listenable with some potential to hit the charts.
B) remaining tracks: fillers, mostly with awful lyrics. Nothing memorable.

That’s how it works. I can’t understand how such a good album like Joyride, didn’t sell that much in the US. On the other hand, the pretty lousy AOB debut album sold a lot over there. And I can say I have PLAYED that record, so I know what I am talking about. Some tracks are terrible, pure rubbish.

I can’t deny I like some songs (Cruel Summer, Life Is A Flower), but their albums are not cohesive. As I said, only a few songs are decent on every. Their best album ever would be a compilation with the best tracks from every record they ever released. But their original albums don’t work on me, sorry.

I would just like to point out that I have listened to both AOB and Roxette and in my opinion The radio stations over here in America play AOB frequently and if you request a Roxette song most of the dj’s have no clue who they are and seem to think that they are one hit wonders for some reason, I seriously think it should be a crime. And many stations over here don’t even carry their music, if I’m not mistaken. I think most of the radio personalities over here suck, but thats just me, or it could be that it takes me a long time to find roxette music and they charge outrageous prices to get copies sent over to my house from European countries. Its not that way with AOB records. Totally uncool if you ask me... I believe I’m being jipped!

I love Travel To Romantis and Happy Nation.

@Room Sevice

lol “Ace of Base” and “fller”, those 2 words can never ever be used in the same sentence. You must be talking about Madonna or Prince or something Ha Ha Ha

@Pwbbounce
Get your facts straight, Happy Nation was not their 3rd album lol

Lack of sales for Ace of Base in US just shows how American public is ignorant and tastelss and controlled by big record companies and promotion of lame UK/US artists

@Invisible - Not sure why I put 3rd, I knew that it was their first album. Where has the EDIT button gone???

ive always loved Ace Of Base I got Happy Nation in 1996 and have been hooked since. alot of the songs do have good lyrics...but mostly they are a dance orientated group whereas Roxette are more guitars and head toward the rocky/indie sound though never quite getting past the guitar pop thing.

Happy Nation has alot of good tracks The Sign, All That She Wants, Dont Turn Around, Happy Nation,Living In Danger,Hear Me Calling and Voulez Vous Danser. it went down as the biggest selling debut album by a group of all time.

The Bridge also has some of their best songs Beautiful Life,Lucky Love,My Deja Vu and Never Gonna Say Im Sorry. it didnt sell as well but still shifted around the same number of copies as Madonnas Music album 5m copies.

Flowers/Cruel Summer sold better than the bridge in UK getting to #15(the bridge got to #66) and had alot of good tracks also Life Is A Flower,Cruel Summer,Dr Sun,Always Have Always Will,Cecilia,Everytime It Rains.
It got good reviews and sold enough to keep the record company happy.

Da Capo was their last album to date in 2002 and didnt get a huge release though it did include some great tracks like Unspeakable,Beautiful Morning,a cover of Wonderful Life,Da Capo and The Juvenile

You cant really compare the two.

though if you read Greatest Hits sleeve notes for both acts they mention ABBA in both but never the other band

I don’t think they really come back. It’s just made up tabloid rumors and not even the hardcore fans believe in it. Check the forums at http://www.aceofbase.org

AOB were really huge with their first 1.5 albums Happy Nation/The Sign (album was updated with several new tracks for the US release), but everything after that was unfortunately just a small echo of the earlier wave. They would have never sold 5 million of The Bridge if it was their first album. Of the later stuff I like Life Is A Flower though, Da Capo was crap!

for me it´s a mystery why Da Capo was a flop. It´s a great album, better than the 2nd one IMO.

Wow, I haven’t been here for a while. I used to be an Ace Of Base fan but tastes change over the years. If Ace of Base ever releases that album they talk about [and it won’t be released before 2008, according to their manager] it will flop anyway. They had 5 songs finished a year ago and now 6 [again according to their manager]. By 2008 those songs will be outdated.
Only half of the band is promoting, if there is any. Jonas is the type of guy that has great ideas but easily gets bored and gives up when things don’t go his way.

So if this album gets released noone is going to notice and it won’t sell [a handful of fans left won’t do]

They don’t even have a recorddeal for an American release...

Girlx

heres the rockamerica Ace Of base Megamix

That was nice. All there big songs squeezed into 5 mins.

is there a AOB DVD by the way?
na na na na na

I know there is a Da Capo DVD. But I guess it sold as poor as the CD or even less! lol

I think “One More Time” was a better group than AOB. They also deserve some credit, in Sweden at least. “Highland” is a great song!

this band got me through annoying grunge and hip hop years of 1990’s...
together with Dr Alban, Basic Element, Army of Lovers, E-type....those were great eurodance days of mid 90’s :-)

david: that youtube megamix is gone :(((( do you have it to upload?
thanks.

Everybody has a different taste of course, but I like(d) Ace Of Base.
Especially their albums “Happy Nation” and “The Bridge” are good.
Of course, roxette is much better, but now and then it is nice to listen to something else and AOB is a good option then.

Well, I like both, Roxette and AOB and I hope there will be a new Acer album next year. ( I personally think, this would be more probable than a new Rox album :( )

didn‘t roxette ‘take over‘ ace of base.
