German Singers/Bands

Anyone know some either good or comical German singers and bands? I am teaching German in high school and want to get a few CDs/songs that i can use in the classroom. Preferably singers who generally sing in quite a clear voice. Not Rammstein or anything

Most of the bands I know Propaganda, Kraftwerk etc. all sing in English.
What about David Hasselhof?
Santi said on September 3, 2006 08:42:
The Schroeders are comical, right? And they sing in German.
I like Rio Reiser, and there’s also Die Ärtze, Echt, and Laibach (these are Slovenian, but they sing in Deutsch... though you may not like them if you dislike Rammstein, since Rammstein copies them :D).

Die Toten Hosen, Herbert Grönemeyer, Silbermond, Peter Maffay...is what comes to my mind right now. They all sing in German.

Hubert Kah had some songs in German, and a Beautiful clear voice. Like his new album “Seelentaucher” is allmost all in German.
http://www.amazon.de/Seelentaucher-Hubert-Kah/dp/B0009JAERQ/sr=1-6/qid=1...
He also had many solo English songs and wrote for Sandra in the 80’s. I love that performer!

A german singer I like very much is Anett Louisan.
She plays with words a lot, and the songs make you sometimes think about yourself. They are about typical human (okay, in most cases female) behaviour and where it can lead. Well, there are also enough people who don´t like her at all, but she´s really worth a try.

Here is a link to a German “PowerPop-song” from Austrian Christina Stürmer “Nie genug” / “Never enough”
Please comment after you downloaded the song so I can delete it.
Cheers

Joyrider, thanks ive downloaded the song. Its good, and the lyrics and voice are quite clear which is good for my classes. Thanks

I don’t know whether he’s still in the music business at all but there’s a song called Freiheit by Marius Müller Westernhagen which I think isn’t that bad.
Herbert Grönermeyer whom roxgirl mentioned above is a great musician but I think your students might have problems understanding him. His pronunciation is anything but clear. I can hardly understand him *g*
If you want to make your students laugh you could try Helge Schneider. “Katzeklo” for example. It’s crap and doesn’t make any sense but might be fun listening.
Invisible_man said on September 4, 2006 12:12:
There is also a very nice German band called Munchener Freiheit (aka Freiheit).
I have English (very rare) version of album Fantasy (1988), but there is also a German version called Fantasi. They had many albums, most are sung in German. Very good band :-)
ncurran said on September 4, 2006 16:23:
thanks for the suggestions guys. i’ll check out as many of them as possible
Galadriel said on September 4, 2006 17:41:
I would recommend ’Michael von der Heide’.
http://www.michaelvonderheide.ch/html/de/shop.html
(click on one of the albums and then ’text’ to read the lyrics)
He is a swiss singer and sings in german, “swiss-german” and french. Some songs have pretty “interesting” lyrics. *lol*
For example one song is called “Der Briefträger ist tot” (the postman is dead).
From the albums I know I would recommend “Frisch” and “30°”, mainly because most of the songs are in german on those two ones.
EDIT: oh my god, typos!!
And btw. Herbert Grönemeyer is really hard to understand even for germans!
Kiwein1 said on September 5, 2006 12:10:
Blümchen quit. Her name is Jasmin Wagner and she is now trying to make “good” music (without any success at the moment) with her real name.
Helge Schneider is quite funny, true. Forgot about him. But I think all good bands are named now.
bunny2 said on September 5, 2006 18:58:
Jasmin Wagner canceled her tour, because not many tickets were sold.
I prefer Rosenstolz. A very good German band with much success. Finally !
I also like the first album of Juli. Great band. Great on stage, I think.
Even Sandra is from Germany singing in English. She had much success in the 80’s. I am hoping for a comeback, because I really like her old stuff.
There is always much German music, but not everything is so great...
I think Nena did a great job in the 80’s. I am wondering if anyone else would get her success all over the world ???
ncurran said on September 5, 2006 19:35:
Roxfever, lol....i like the Katzeklo one, was checking out some other of his songs...think I’ll give ’Jazz ist keine gute Fickmusik’ a miss....not really suitable for the kids...though i might give it a listen myself
Roxfever said on September 5, 2006 21:52:
Lol, no, doesn’t sound very suitable :-)
If you like his kind of humor, he’s made some extremely funny and, to be honest, slightly strange films like “Praxis Dr. Hasenbein” or ” 00 Schneider - Jagd auf Nihil Baxter”. They are great! People who hate H. Schneider say they’ve never seen such bullsh** before but if you like his humor you must love his films. Some hyper-intellectuals claim there is a deeper meaning behind all this “crap”. Hm, I’m wondering what that could be and will probably never find out but maybe it’s better not to know what he wants to tell us *gg*
Galadriel said on September 6, 2006 12:21:
Maybe the same “hyper-intellectuals” who took Hape Kerkeling’s “Hurz” for serious. ;-)

These are the “Sternenhimmel” -lyrics with a humble translation by myself:
Mit dir in der Südsee stehn
(To stand together with you (somewhere) in the South Seas)
In den Abendhimmel sehn
(To look into the evening sky)
Und der Mond am Firnament
(And the moon at the firmament)
Spürt wie meine Sehnsucht brennt
(Feels how my longing is burning)
Oh komm Zigan spiel für uns allein
(O come Zigan [don’t know, could be a name] play only for us)
Die Melodie brauch ich zum Glücklichsein
(I need the melody to rejoice)
Ich seh den Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, oho
Ich seh den Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, oho
(I see the starry sky)
Und kaum fühl ich erste Triebe
(And as soon as I feel first appetites)
Kommt auch schon die grosse Liebe
(Already the big love comes)
Doch in meinem kleinen Herz spür ich diesen tiefen Schmerz
(Yet in my little heart I feel this deep pain)
Oh, ihr Sterne lasst mich nicht allein
(O, you stars don’t leave me alone)
Die Melodie brauch ich zum Glücklichsein
(I need the melody to rejoice)
Oh Sterne lasst mich nicht allein
(O stars don’t leave me alone)
Oh Sterne kann den Liebe Sünde sein
(O stars can love be a sin?)
Ich seh den Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, oho
Ich seh den Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, oho
(I see the starry sky)
Alalala...
Oh Himmel lass mich bei ihr sein
(Oh sky [maybe can be replaced this time with ’heaven’] let me be with her)
Ihr Sterne kann denn Liebe Sünde sein
(You stars can love be a sin?)
Ich seh den Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, oho
Ich seh den Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, Sternenhimmel, oho
Invisible_man said on October 5, 2006 20:16:
great!
thank you very much for that translation. Fun track, and I love Hubert’s vocals
But I think Wenn Der Mond Die Sonne Beruhrt is better, so romantic and with that great 80’s guitar solo :-)
Galadriel said on October 6, 2006 09:27:
I’m glad to be able to help.
On the other hand I’m also always happy when people translate a song for me. :-)
“Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt”, I had forgotten, that I knew this song. *g* It’s a nice one!
——————————————-
Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt
(When the moon touches the sun)
Weiß nicht wie du heißt und wo du wohnst
(Don’t know what’s your name and where you live)
las im Horoskop von dir.
(Read in the horoscope about you)
Da stand
(There was written)
du kommst zu mir
(You’ll coming to me)
wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt.
(When the moon touches the sun)
Einerseits
(On the one hand)
ich glaub’ nicht daran. Andererseits
(I don’t believe such things. On the other hand)
ich fang schon an
(I’ve already started)
zu den Sternen zu sehn
(To look to the stars)
übersinnlich -
(transcendental -)
wie lang’ muß ich hier noch warten?
(How long do I have to wait here yet?)
Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt
(When the moon touches the sun)
dann bin ich nur für dich da.
(Then I’ll be there for you only)
Wenn das Licht den Schatten verführt sind wir den Sternen so nah.
(When the light seduces the shadow we’ll be so close to the stars)
Schließ die Augen
(Close the eyes)
denk an mich
(Think of me)
telepathisch such ich dich.
(Telepathically I search for you)
Komm im Dunkel zu mir
(Come to me when it’s dark [or “come to me in enigma”])
übersinnlich -
(transcendental -)
wie lang muß ich hier noch warten?
(How long do I have to wait here yet?)
Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt
(When the moon touches the sun)
dann bin ich nur für dich da....
(Then I’ll be there for you only)
Wenn der Mond
wenn der Mond
wenn der Mond
(When the moon)
Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt
(When the moon touches the sun)
dann bin ich nur für dich da....
(Then I’ll be there for you only...)
Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt
(When the moon touches the sun)
Wenn das Licht den Schatten verführt
(When the light seduces the shadow we’ll be so close to the stars)
Wenn der Mond die Sonne berührt
(When the moon touches the sun)
Wenn das Licht den Schatten verführt.
(When the light seduces the shadow we’ll be so close to the stars)
