Dumb best of's & greatest hits compilations

Doesn’t it annoy you when certain artists that you like release compilation albums that lack (many) songs you would’ve liked to be included?

I mean artists that aren’t THAT great you’d buy all of their albums. They put solid album tracks instead of their (hit) singles on them that no one’s ever heard of (and probably wouldn’t even want to hear).

Alanis Morissette’s GH is without a couple good single songs and instead has her own favourite songs. The forthcoming Massive Attack compilation is (at least for the time being) without the gorgeous Special Cases.

REMs “In time” lacks Drive and Bang & Blame to name a couple and Tina Turner’s 2cd set is without Whatever You Want (the first and probably the most successful single after GoldenEye from the album Wildest Dreams).

Per doesn’t like Fireworks and it isn’t included on any of the compilations...It was far greater a hit than Real Sugar, for instance.

And finally, not that I’d care too much for the band but Savage Garden’s best of lacks Tears of Pearls, a single, and one of the few good songs they made.

I would’ve liked the Crowded House hits cd i bought to have included “choc cake” arrrghhhhh.

“Alanis Morissette’s GH is without a couple good single songs and instead has her own favourite songs”

I think it’s actually a VERY good compilation - not like the normal predictable tracklists of singles only! It’s focused on both fans & the general market and truly shows her versitality as an artist!

The problem with R.E.M. In Time is that it should’ve been a double CD-collection.

It’s really hard to not include any of the songs on it.

@Strest
I think REM’s catalogue is split between record companies (Warner and maybe IRS or Interscope or someone ???) so a greatest hits will be limited to each company’s songs. At least I think that is the way it goes.

Well, yes.
But that’s not the problem here.
’Drive’ was included on ’Automatic For The People’ (which is a WB-album) just like, for example, ’Nightswimming’ and ’Everybody hurts’ and they were included on ’In Time’.

(The other company is EMI.)

Edit: And if they should’ve made a career-greatest hits including the older non-WB-stuff the only way to go would’ve been a 3-CD-box.

I can add Madonna’s GHV2.

A lot of hits not included (like ’This used to be my playground’ & ’American Pie’).

And what made it even worse was that there was nothing new, not even the megamixes they made to promote the collection.

Her first collection, ’The immaculate collection’ also lacks some songs.
For example ’True Blue’ and ’Who’s That Girl’, both #1 hits in UK.

I agree with Madonna’s GHV2. The problem I have is the title really. It’s missing several huge hits to get the title. Plus, there was never a GHV1, so why is there a Pt. 2? The Immaculate Collection worked as a compilation because the title, despite lacking huge hits, worked as a collection. GHV2 should have been just been the The Immaculate Collection 2 with the songs in chronological order, not the weird order it is in.

Yeah,
and vol 2 is also kinda weird since she released a hits ballad collection (’Something to remember’).

I miss “Your Little Secret” on Melissa Etheridge’s hits collection. It should have *at least* been included on the Canadian version, it was one of her biggest hits here.

What I find more annoying though is artists with two albums that have no right to be releasing greatest hits collections (Hilary Duff springs to mind... All Saints is another). At least All Saints did us the favour of disbanding with the release of theirs... I doubt Hilary Duff is signalling her retirement with hers (unfortunately)...

I think the most satisfying GH ever though is The Cranberries’ “Stars”... that album had every single song I thought it should have had and none that I would have left off. DBUGTTC comes close but I would have swapped “Fireworks” for “Vulnerable”

i so agree on the ME hitsd package, ther lack of breate for this moment which in all cases was a flop was really confusing too, and it woudl habe nee nice to have a cut or two from her grand central station performance on there
