Shock/Horror! George Bush talks some sense

Bush wowed by mountain landscape

US president George Bush has urged people to get on their bikes and tour Scotland’s “beautiful” countryside.

He was speaking after crashing into a Strathclyde Police officer while riding his mountain bike on the Gleneagles Estate in Perthshire.

Mr Bush told journalists it was a “spectacular part of the world”.

A spokesman for VisitScotland described it as “an impressive endorsement” and added: “It’s something we would certainly echo.”

The president suffered scrapes on his hands and arms and was treated by a White House doctor after the accident on Wednesday night.

The police officer, on security duty, was sent to hospital to be treated for a minor ankle injury. He is back on duty but is not available for comment.

“For those of you who like to mountain bike, I would strongly suggest getting out in this beautiful countryside”
George Bush

Mr Bush was said to be “flying” when the accident happened.

At the end of a news conference with Tony Blair ahead of the first G8 session at Gleneagles, Mr Bush was asked how he felt.

He replied: “Great, ready to go for another ride. I talked to the policeman last night. He’s doing fine. Less worried about myself and more worried about him.

“It just goes to show that I should act my age. By the way, when you ride hard on a mountain bike, sometimes you fall. Otherwise you’re not riding hard.

’Slick pavement’

“The pavement was slick and the bike came out from underneath me just like that person on the Tour de France the other day. I think I’ve found my limitations.”

The American cyclist David Zabriskie crashed while wearing the Tour leader’s yellow jersey on Tuesday. “He’s a lot better bike rider than I am,” Mr Bush quipped.

Then he urged the media: “For those of you who like to mountain bike, I would strongly suggest getting out in this beautiful countryside. It’s a spectacular part of the world... just be careful on the finish line.”

’Fantastic facilities’

A VisitScotland spokesman said: “It’s quite an impressive endorsement from one of the most powerful men in the world.

“Scotland has fantastic facilities for mountain bikers from the Borders to the Highlands.”

The president Bush began cycling seriously a couple of years ago when a knee injury forced him to give up running.

His usual trails are near his ranch in Crawford, Texas, and near a Secret Service training facility at Beltsville, Maryland.

And somewhere on the net are pictures of him after he sucked face with the pavement from a mountain biking accident (I’ve seen them within the last 8 months).

Keep in mind folks:

This is the man who almost choked to DEATH on snack food!!! (I hold Frito Lay personally RESPONSIBLE for not completing their task ;o) )

Oh, we must suppose it’s not sarcastic at all, to express regret that a fellow human being did not choke to death.

Other than the fact that my previous post concerning the hit Frito Lay failed on... to prove what a “boy wonder” we have in office, he’s the only one to almost die by eating snack food WHILE IN OFFICE! I wanna see the Secret Service defend against that one! They have to chew all his food for him.

And while I’m at it –
Oldag: Can I make a recommendation that you seriously consider? Don’t post here for the next week or so. Your callousness, lack of tact and manners have really offended some people. Everytime I see you post, I can’t help but wonder what retarded statement will come from your being. I can’t say brain because you don’t seem to have one. If you do, you DEFINITELY don’t engage it before commenting.

In the last 20 posts or so that I’ve read from you, you’ve managed to insult most people that live in Europe in some form or another. Don’t you know that the Middle East will own the REST of the United States BEFORE Europe? Bush has links to more Middle-Eastern families (Saudi, Iraqi) than any president in US History! (No other president has had more foreign “ties”, that is).

Just think about it.

Way to go LS! :) that just made my day and it ain’t even started yet! :)

Well, Mr. G.W. said also that there’s not enough with Kyoto Agreement and we should go further...

I wonder what he means, when he resigned to adhere to that one that is an agreement of minimal requirements...

Btw, Good one LS! :D

LS: Very well said!

I believe there is no one on this forum I disagree with more, then Oldag.

wow its amazing how you people chide a man for his intelligence when you don’t display much of it yourselves

The political views most of you hold are understandable because the media/press in Europe and Great Britain are relentlessly anti-American and correspondingly anti-Bush. Consistent repetition of this reportorial bias has been extremely effective, infecting everyone exposed with an automatic anti-American bias.

I have a specific, recent example. I heard a BBC radio report – yes, I peruse all sorts of news sources – about a speech GW Bush gave on July 4. The news reader ended the report saying that as Bush concluded his speech and departed the stage, the audience was completely silent. That “audience was completely silent” phrase was intoned with a subtle verbal sneer.

The obvious implication is that those who heard the speech disapproved of it, disapproved of Bush. That was the notion the BBC intended for listeners to infer. Later, I saw on television a re-broadcast of that speech. It is absolutely true that, when the speech ended and Bush left, the audience was silent. That is because the audience consisted of US Army soldiers standing at attention, as is militarily required when one’s commanding officer departs. Accordingly, BBC listener conclusions about the audience’s disapproving reaction to Bush’s speech were invalid, because the BBC did not present all of the relevant facts.

If you are intellectually honest, you realize that you were fooled by the media into drawing an incorrect conclusion. The invalid conclusions you have drawn from listening to the European/British media are not your fault. Intellectual honesty demands factual input, and is not afraid of the truth. Those of you who are intelligent will pause a bit, wondering if all the conclusions you have drawn about the USA from listening to your media are logically valid. Others will continue automatically accepting, as true and complete, everything you hear from that media.

P.S. Feeling “offended” is a choice one makes. No one can offend you but you. No one upsets, embarrasses, insults or exasperates you, but you. You have no control over what the world transmits to your senses/perceptions, but you do have 100 percent control over how you respond/feel/think. As I’ve said, I understand the nature of your opinions because I know you have drawn them from the sources you choose to access… sources which are giving you invalid information to process, resulting in invalid conclusions and opinions.

Govern your thinking accordingly. Health and happiness to all of you, sincerely !

Man, media say what people want to hear in democratic countries, because is for them the customers. It’s not that our media brainwash us, is that we think that and they should keep us satisfied because otherwise we zap to another channel that tells us what we want to hear. In Europe that’s even easier than in the USA because we don’t have all the patriotical cirkus around that you in your country seem to enjoy so much, we feel proud to critisize our politicians, our model of state and everything because everything is arguable... we didn’t have to pray to the flag every morning at school.
And seriously, why don’t you come out of your whole and have an instructing vacation in Europe for about 1 month... you would learn how to critisize correctly the very criticable things that are in Europe, and you would hopefully learn something about us as well.... :)

Olddag, I lived in Asia for 2 years and the only english language news i could get on TV was american. How you can accuse the British/European media of being biased I dont know. Of course, no media is completely impartial and I would be the first to condemn the print media in the UK (those with both left and right wing agendas), but when it comes to TV news, the BBC and Channel 4 news especially do explain the bigger picture and are pretty impartial.
The american news networks are UNBELIEVABLY biased. It was during the Iraqi war, and it seemed that anyone with even the slightest anti-war stance was vilified for criticising the policy while US troops were fighting abroad.
Fox News is the worst example, but other channels were also completely narrow-minded and limited in their news coverage of events around the world. It is no wonder that so many americans are ignorant about the world around them after witnessing the paltry news coverage given to major world events.

The European media is by no means perfect, but it is an 100% improvement on the american media

Sir, I suggest... laughing gently to myself... that we in America can be ruthlessly vicious in criticizing our elected politicians. Look at the criticism being leveled against GWB... and, in local newspapers, I have been fortunate to have several critical letters printed, severely criticizing my own Congressional representative, cerebral titan Sheila Jackson Lee.

I can’t afford a Eurpean trip, just now, but the suggestion of such has merits, so I will begin saving up.

Two of my friends at an oil company lost their jobs several years ago, but with generous severance payments. They used the funds for a (planned) month-long tour of Europe... but they somehow found themselves completely stalled in Amsterdam, sitting in the basement of a place called Bob’s Boy’s Hostel and smoking hash for three weeks while reading magazines and watching girls. Hey, sounded like a GREAT vacation !!

ncurran you must be so world wise what with watching all them different news channels, i just watch the one channel , but then i read up on a hell of alot on subjects ect ! ! thats why my reading glasses are about a cm thick pretty lol

It’s perfectly natural and normal for one’s initial response, when an imbedded set of beliefs is exposed as false, to be a reaction of emotion-driven denial. Consider when a child reaches the point where she learns/discovers that parents have been carrying out the duties of a mythical individual named Santa Claus. You’ve gone into a closet or someplace, seeking something, and you discover an object that you recognize as a gift you’ve requested from Santa for the approaching Christmas.... and you suddenly realize, you suddenly understand... but no, that CANNOT be! Your logic conflicts with your emotions, but your emotions prevail for a few moments.... and then logic, as it always must, illuminates the truth. The Eurpean/British media has been playing Santa Clause for a long time, feeding its recipients the news gifts their emotions want to receive.

stop being so bloody patronising....youve just described the american media to a T

rox-kuryliw, I think it is actually more important that people have the opportunity to travel and meet people from many different backgrounds and cultures. That is more valuable than reading all the newspapers and watching all the media available to you because you experience people first hand.
It is quite telling that Olddag seems to have never travelled in Europe

ncurran, your response is completely reasonable when viewed through the prism of the paradigm that guides your conclusions. You may choose to be angry, or you may choose to re-examine your premises.

i thought you werent going to post anymore on this subject until august. pls go away, you are boring me.

“patronising”

A friend with whom I worked advised that when his wife was in the midst of PMS, and he would attempt to assuage her discomfort via conversation, she would savagely holler, “Don’t you patronize me!”

Is someone in our midst experiencing mensis?

Coyboy: And this from a man who would definitely make Americans look stupid because you refuse to get your shit together and spell the MOST BASIC WORDS CORRECTLY. Then you blame it on being in a rush or being emotional.

Sit down and stfu.
