Fireworks

Tomorrow is Independence Day here in the US and as usual, the fireworks sellers are doing a booming business. (They start around the last week of June and sell through the second week or so of July.) As long as city ordinances don’t prohibit them, they’re sold. 3 here in a small town of 4,500! It’s insane.
Since 11 a.m. this morning—and indeed, since Friday night—my town has sounded like a militarized zone: Pops and bangs and bottle rocket screeches all freakin’ day. Just when you think they’re done, it starts up from another block. It’s almost 10 p.m. and they’re STILL going strong with no hint of stopping. They were going off last night until about 1 a.m.
It’s drivin’ me freakin’ nuts.
Are fireworks THIS popular in other parts of the world? Are they allowed where you live?

Fireworks are really popular here in Sweden, however they are more or less banned now. :(

Yeah we have the same problem here for the 5th November... they start going off from around September till January most of the time.
Although new rules came into force last year and they where not allowed to go off after 11pm on a normal night and after 12pm on days like Bonfire Night, and I think it was 1am on New Years Eve / Day....
I noticed an improvement last year with the rules, but there are still some arses out there letting them until 3 and 4 am!

I wish I lived in the country, sometimes. I also like those large displays. When I lived in Savannah, Georgia, every spring they’d have a symphony concert on the river and set off a display as they played the 1812 Overture and patriotic selections.
Last night it started raining about a half hour after I logged off. MOST of the noise stopped. Somehow they found a way to set them off.
And this morning: who needs and alarm clock? Just give the neighbors fireworks and they’ll wake you up. AND IT’S STILL RAINING! Not so great for the outdoor celebrations today, but it’s quieter.

I do feel sorry for the dogs too. We had a cocker/collie mix growing up and she would come indoors the last week of June and stay in until mid-July because she hated the noise and the sudden explosions.

Now most of my dogs, never had a problem with Fireworks... although I have friends who’s dogs have been terrified by it, they have to be sedated...

In UK they have a end time like ally says for bonfire night and new years, i like bonfire night its a great english tradition, but its not fair when it goes on all night into the morning, and i also saw improvement last year which was great seemed to work . My dog does not care for them one bit, i go for a walks at night when there off in the air and he has never flinched by it once even though some of them are that loud they scare me to death and im the one who flinches ! some dogs do some dont i guess. My dog has grown up in a VERY noisey house since a pup with alot of people, so he is used to it i think thats why. Now he doenst like it quiet which i thinks strange , i have to leave this moring on for him when i go out, think he likes lorraine kelly hehe. she does have a great voice.

I think you need a license in South Africa. And you have to go to a designated spot (outside a city/town) and let em go off there. This is cuz of all the poor animals that run away and get lost every year.

here in Vienna (not sure about the rest of Austria) people go crazy with the fireworks for new years eve. In Spain it is crazy on 23rd of June night, when we celebrate Sant Joan (midsummer alike). THEN it goes crazy, everybody buys fireworks .. and starts to bang them already days before Sant Joan, and what to day about the 23rd night.. luckily I lived in the countryside, surrounded by trees, so there was nobody “down at the street” making noise. I hated to get into the city those days, though.
I like to watch fireworks from afar and if it doesn’t last like 2 hours (normally they last max 30 mins because those things are expensive..), but I hate the cracks/bangs/pops...
