have you ever been jobless?

what did you do during your “break”?
Is unemployment huge in your country?
I was jobless some months back in 2001 and 2003 but not anymore :)
I slept long and used my pc:)

I was jobless for several months, long ago. It was extremely depressing. Every morning, I realized, “Today is the first day of the rest of my money.”

And the circumstance motivated me to seek business opportunities, to get off my derriere, to be persistent and tenacious. During free time – lots of it – I read extensively. It was one of those growth experiences, one of those character-building experiences one hears parents talk about. And I wish it upon no one.

yes right now. i just moved to my boyfriends house in the beginning of the year.
there is no work here in any way but we manage just fine.
and i’m never bored. i play guitar, paint and make sculptures. i wish i had enough money so i don’t have to work anymore.

Not since 1995... so... I don’t remember *lol*

yes, july 2002 - november 2003. What did I do.. Learn some programing stuff myself, German courses, Swedish courses, read, be a housewife.. I sure didn’t get bored but I hated it to have to look at every single cent...

I’m unemployed at the moment aswell :(
Mind you i’m not too bothered at the moment, as I’ve just returned to Scotland after being away for 2 years, so I’m enjoying relaxing and spending time with family and friends. Still, i might need to find a job pretty soon, as my money is dwindling pretty fast

yea, I will be jobless on my return to Skottland, kinda looking forward to it in a way, being a total bum for a few weeks, Then the batchelors thesis will want doing....ARGH!

Good luck with the hunt Neil. let us know if ya get something. oam

yes it is heaven! I had 2 years of surfing and shagging girls half my age. had a nice tan too.
just make sure you get unemployment. :)

Yes, a couple of times I think the longest was about 9 months or something... it’s very easy to get stuck in a rut and enjoy living it easy... but at once stage I got pissed off with having no money so I looked for a job and got one within about a week of trying to find one....

i iwsh i was i hate my job :0

Yes, when I came from college, it took me some time to find a job. First remark they make: You don’t have much experience.
And how do you suppose i get experience if everybody tells you that and doesn’t give you a job?

But after about 4 or 5 months I got a job at the University of Groningen. After 2 years I moved to the Delft University of Technology (without being jobless inbetween), where I already work for a bit more than 5 years.

@coyboyusa: Why don’t you quit your job then, if you would like to be jobless?

I was unemployed for about nine months back in 1995. In those days, you had to hand in a form with two places you looked for work each fortnight. Nowadays they have a book that you have to put something like ten or fifteen places each fortnight, plus you have to do other stuff like attend seminars, I believe.
A person is better off with a job in Australia. It’s less work!!!

It’s like that in the UK, but there are still so many people who don’t work or won’t work.... you get people signing on for like 3 / 4 years because they’ll openly admit they cannot be bothered to get a job...

Okay we have a min wage and it’s crap at the current rate, but tax credits and all kinds of other things are there to help people esp those with kids to get work, there is no excuse not to get a job, it’s all a matter of pride...
