To All of You Who Write ANY Kind of Fan Fiction

Okay... it’s official:
I’m fed up with the United States government (yet again). I know my eyes are brown and that shit’s stacked at LEAST 5’5”, but COME ON!
WAKE UP AMERICA AND GROW SOME BALLS!!!
On with the show:
MPAA Rantings and Whinings -
MPAA stands for... well, I don’t know if you wanna hear THAT one.
Here’s something that a friend of mine who writes fan fic for Star Trek (and other genres) sent out on ICQ:
: For those that have fan fics and your stories are online and rated like PG,PG-13,G,ect... well guess what... according to the MPAA(Motion Picture Association of America) putting the rating system on a story is considered copywright infringement and therefore illegal... The MPAA is currently sending out cease and desist letters to fan fic sites...Here’s a copy of an actual letter:
http://www.netroenterprises.com/samples/mpletter_1.jpg
HOWEVER... she pointed out a way around THAT:
I’m gonna put a disclaimer on my site that the rating system is property of the MPAA just to shut em up...
Pass this around to EVERYONE that you know who writes. I love reading what you all write, and to be honest, I’ll be damned if some monkey-assed-whiny-bitch of a baby bureaucrat whore is going to take that away from me. When are people in America gonna grow some balls and tell people that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and quit running their lives????
And on that note, I’ll get down off my soap box and Send this to you. Please accept my apologies at my rant, it’s just gone too far in my opinion (government entities).

That’s an email I’ve sent out to several people that I know who run websites that post X-File Fan Fiction. The original content was sent to me by a friend in Washington State who writes across several genres. Just remember to stick a disclaimer that you’re using the MPAA rating system and expect no profit from it, etc. and they really can’t say much at the moment.

The MPAA is just frustrated that they aren’t getting anywhere with the bootleggers and pirates, so they’re looking for other people to pick on. Losers!

I’ve gotten one response back from someone in the X-File Fan Fiction community who’s making a suggestion to all those that write to use a different rating system. It’s a little difficult because we’ve all used G / PG / PG-13 / R / NC-17 for so long, that catchin it and using a different one will be a tedious process.
As she said: “So how come they’re not concentrating on catching the bad Chinese bootlegs?”
Damn good question.

The MPAA is not part of the US government. It’s a private organization, just like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (the Oscars).

uh? well then just create a rating system for fan fiction stories? soon we’ll be infringing copyright only by breathing!!
