Asking for help with Norwegian music

I happen to have a friend who’s trying to learn some Norwegian by herself. Lets say in short she’s looking forward to surprising some guy she met here some time ago, by traveling to Norway and showing him that she *can* speak a bit of Norwegian. The guy is expecting her trip next year, but he doesn’t know that she’s trying to learn the language.

Now, despite any romanticism ;) the story might have, and given the fact that I’ve been learning Swedish (which here is something as crazy as learning Norwegian :p), I’m trying to help her as much as I can. Listening to Per/MF/GT, and some other Swedish artists has been very useful to me. So I’d like to find some Norwegian music for her to listen to. I think it’s a good exercise, and you can borrow many vocabulary and pronunciation goodies from a native singer.

As she can’t ask this guy (it would blow away the surprise!), and I have no clue on Norwegian music / artists, I thought I could ask here... which is precisely what I’m doing :)

So, the question is: Could any of you Norwegian Rox fans recommend any artist / album / whatever? The music style is not that important... but given the fact that my friend is in her mid-40s, and the whole point is to practice the language, I think something like ballads and pop would do better than lets say heavy metal.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend Morten Harket / Vogts Villa

What kind of music are Morten Abel and September When? (Both Norwegian).

Morten Abel is actually called the norwegian king of pop by the media here in Norway, and that pretty much says it. And I guess you already knew that he was the lead singer of September When. He´s one of my favorite norwegian artists. Some of his songs are just amazing - such as “Lydia”, “I´ll Come Back And Love You Forever”, “Tulipz”, “Hard To Stay Awake”, “Trendsetter” & “Our Love Is Deep”, and last but not least “Cries Like A Baby” (September When).

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll check them out.

I absolutely love the music by Morten Abel, I have two albums of him and also many MP3 by the September When (Why is so difficult to find even in Norway albums like “Prestige de Norvege”??).

I have another tip, try pop band “Briskeby”. It’s really pop. My favourite song is “Cellophane Eyes”, but they have many good ones!

In Norwegian I don’t know much though... I only know a band called “CC Cowboys”. You may try to download some MP3 :D
