SAD SONGS

which song breaks your heart and why?

Avril Lavigne - How does it feel.

This song goes under my skin. First time I listened to it, I was standing in a shop and was able to relate every single word to my ex, which I still loved dearly. I stood there, with the headphones on and the tears just came rolling down.

I then got back together with my ex but soon we or should I say, I made the final brake and listened to that soung ALL night, crying into my pillow. Went over to my ex in the morning, we spent the day together and both said, we can’t be together. So now, almost a year later, I am still not able to listen to this song, even though I think it is such a beautiful song!

rem: drive
guano apes: anne claire
sting: fragile
roxette: watercolours in the rain
alanis m.: uninvited

i just love sad songs. i can’t even listen to watercolours in the rain without getting emotional

@frissco

Watercolours is my all time fav Roxette song!!!! Very different & timeless.

the scientist by coldplay. I split up with the one person I truly loved and ever will love. I thought i wanted to go in a diferent direction. it was a mistake and i still regret it.

@pumkins

I feel ya with this one! Years after I had broken up with probably the Love of my life (we had been together for 5 years) I listened to that song for the first time. I was sitting in the car with a friend, both uf us fell silent and just really listened to the lyrics when that song came on and afterwards I felt like shit!!!!

Cat Power “Names”.

It’s just a very beautiful, heartfelt, depressing song. Just Cat Power with a piano, and the following lyrics... I strongly suggest to EVERYONE here to go and find it!

Verse #1:
His name was Perry.
He had a learning difficulty.
His father was a very mean man,
his father burned his skin.
His father sent him to his death.
He was 10 years old.

Verse #2:
Her name was Naomi.
Beautiful round face, so ashamed.
Told me how to please a man
after school in the back of the bus.
She was doing it every day.
She was 11 years old.

Verse #3:
Her name was Cheryl.
Black hair like electric space.
She would pretty paint my face.
She was a very good friend.
Her father would come to her in the night.
She was 12 years old.

Verse #4:
His name was Donovan.
He was a very good friend.
The cards were stacked agaisnt him.
He was selling cocaine.
The last time i saw him
he was 13 years old.

Verse #5:
His name was Charles.
He said he was in love with me.
We were both 14.
Then I had to move away.
Than he began to smoke crack.
Then he had to sell ass.
I dont know where he is.
I dont know where they are.

I’m not usually the crying type. I think there are only 2 songs that I’ve ever cried to. Song #1 was R.E.M.’s Daysleeper - and that was just because I could relate to the lyrics at a really crappy time. This song by Cat Power... it’s just heart-wrenching to have to listen to. And I wasn’t even that depressed when I first listened to it. I was just lying in bed, listening to this Cat Power album I had just bought that day. And track #11 came up (Names). I broke down...

..to name just a few

There’s a Cole Porter tune called “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye”, most notably performed by Annie Lennox on the Porter tribute Red, Hot & Blue:

Ev’ry time we say goodbye I die a little
Ev’ry time we say goodbye I wonder why a little
Why the gods above me
Who must be in the know
Think so little of me
They allow you to go
When you’re near there’s such an air of spring about it
I can hear a lark somewhere begin to sing about it
There’s no love song finer
But how strange the change
From major to minor
Ev’ry time we say goodbye

I recently lost someone very dear to me and this song absolutely breaks my heart. So beautifully stated, the feeling of loss and pain and rememberance. I’m not the least bit ashamed to say it’s made me cry.
