MTV Euro Top 20 - - does anyone watch it?

Yea, but MTV was much better in the 90´s. So off course they showed better bands- one of them Roxette. Now MTV stinks.

and the chart hardly ever changes!!!
also if it were a euro chart? wouldnt there be songs that are from different countries in it? as in diff languages? for instance uk chart singles sell alot! but they dont even make the chart?

@ Judith, I think it was that music programme that we sometimes we saw Roxette on in the 90’s, although I’m not certain! :S
animalkingdom said on January 2, 2005 21:57:
Hehe...Actually The Centre of the Heart appeared on the chart in the new millennium... :)

MTV = Music Television however a lot of the stuff played on there should not be classed as music. At least, not proper music. The chart is generally rubbish and i think quite unreliable.
I tend to agree with LaMan - MTV = MTV UK and if i’m honest, when it comes to music the UK pretty much sucks!!
LaMan said on January 5, 2005 23:42:
they never play artists from countries like Germany, France, Italy, Denmark etc. It´s all about US and Uk music. Shame.

I’d like to know exactly how Anastacia’s Welcome To My Truth is this week’s #3 on this Euro Top 20 chart. It’s a good song, but received little radio exposure on UK radio - and didn’t even make the top 20 here. And, from what I’ve seen of other countries charts - it ain’t doing very well anywhere (except Romania, #2 on sales chart for 3 weeks, aparently).
I reckon MTV just plays the songs they wanna play at that particular time. I doubt MTV hires people to browse through sales charts and radio setlists in dozens of countries just for 1 show - I don’t think MTV puts THAT much work into any of their shows.
The chart’s just rubbish, I haven’t watched it seriously since I found out that Wish I Could Fly was in the Top 10 there for ages, and that Stars broke the top 20 on that chart in 1999.
eBay said on February 1, 2005 10:44:
Now, if they would include every single Roxette single in them charts, would people here still say, that chart is rubbish?
Superbullie said on February 1, 2005 15:39:
Does MTV still play musicvideos? Everytime I switch ti MTV there’s some stupid US reality or dating show or even Pimp my Ride. What happend to music television channels? The german channels go the same direction...

@ RoxHard
Wasnt Anastacia at 4 this week?? ;)
Anyway, the song has received massive airply throughout Europe as far as I am concerned so I guess that may influence its chart position...
Weirder to me is that Usher & Alicia Keys are so high! And one of the biggest selling singles, Jay-Z& Linkin Park, are only at 14.
Plus, one more thing, how’s it so that an artist cannot have more than ONE song on the chart nowadays...
Destiny’s Child, Eminem and Maroon 5 all dropped out of the chart from positions 5, 6 & 7 and got in with new videos at 10, 13 & 16. Unbelievable!
I am rather sure These Words by N Bedingfield will be replaced with Unwritten next week... o_0

Wow... well, it does look like Roxette had some success in this chart... I just searched that website, and I just went to the very first chart (from Dec. 1991). And Roxette’s Spending My Time was NEW at #7!
Here’s the chart:
TW LW Weeks On Chart Song Title Artist
1. 8. 2 Black Or White Michael Jackson
2. 1. 2 The Fly U2
3. 3. 2 Let’s Talk About Sex Salt’n’Pepa
4. 2. 2 No Son Of Mine Genesis
5. 4. 2 Change Lisa Stansfield
6. 10. 2 Everybody’s Free Rozalla
7. NEW 1 Spending My Time Roxette
8. 15. 2 Obsession Army Of Lovers
9. 5. 2 Something Got Me Started Simply Red
10. 18. 2 Hole Hearted Extreme
11. NEW 1 Way Of The World Tina Turner
12. 9. 2 Cream Prince
13. 6. 2 DJ Culture Pet Shop Boys
14. 12. 2 Can’t Stop This Thing We Started Bryan Adams
15. NEW 1 Smells Like Teen Spirit Nirvana
16. 7. 2 Good Vibrations Marky Mark
17. 11. 2 I Love To Hate You Erasure
18. 14. 2 Set Adrift On Memory Bliss PM Dawn
19. 19. 2 You Ten Sharp

It did better than Smells Like Teen Spirit!!!!!!

@ RoxHard
Well it did better on the first week....But SMT dropped quite quickly off the chart...
@ eBay
The discussion was about the chart in general: if Roxette’s Anyone, Stars, Real Sugar and Milk and Toast and Honey became huge chart toppers on the European Top 20 I definitely would think worse about the chart! The chart is somewhat twisted! That’s the point!

@ RoxHard
I have some of Roxette’s peak positions on European Top 20...Here I go:

Queen of rain - #3
Almost unreal - #4
Sleeping in my car - #4
Crash! Boom! Bang! - #19
Fireworks - #16
You don’t understand me - #11
Wish I could fly - #5
Stars - #19
The centre of the heart - #12

Hey, is anyone here familiar with MTV’s European Top 20 chart - or Euro Top 20 like it’s nowadays put...?
I have always found the way the channel compiles the chart pretty weird...They claim it’s the pan-European chart show with data from sales and airplay throughout the continent but come on!
First of all MTV Germany broadcasts a different version of Euro Top 20 with German language tracks and such European chart favourites like O-Zone’s Dragostea Din Tei never got into the more common Euro Top 20 countdown cos the different European MTV’s refused to air it (although the song even had a UK release).
This weekend I saw the Best of 2004 version of the chart and guess which song entered at no. 1!
Milkshake by Kelis !!(???) It was followed by Sick And Tired and My Happy Ending...There were bigger hits this year in Europe than those! Haha...
