have you heard it done by the man in black?
that’s some good stuff! :)
coyboyusa said on October 13, 2004 14:12:
the johnny cash version f=of hurt by nine inch nails is the best the song is so barren and hollow in a way nine inch nails could never have done it. I usually hate covers but I swear manson has really brought out the soul in the song, its more driving pounding n industrial in a way depeche mode couldn’t do it :)
RoxHard said on October 13, 2004 20:39:
I’ve been interested in Manson for quite some time. And I’m considering buying his Best Of. But I only know about 6 songs on it (of which I only like 3).
Is it really worth buying?
coyboyusa said on October 13, 2004 22:44:
manson is an aquired taste either you love him or hate him. U*nfortunately the us and international releases of the hit packages are different. However both contain alot of songs off his last 2 albums ..they aren’t the best. But the special edition has a dvd wit alot of his videos and is worth it. If I were you I’d but antichrist superstar first, and then mechanical animals the latter being one of his best cause its manson putting his take on bowie which is awesome
carbon_boy said on October 14, 2004 11:20:
@ Coyboy: OMG!!! I didnt know you’re a Manson fan?! Finally!
I LOVE Personal Jesus!!! I’ve ordered my Deluxe Edition of The Best Of... cant wait!
I have to say that Mechanical Animals is my fave cd, after which it has to be Golden Age of Grotesque. I prefered HolyWood above AntiChrist - but then again... you have to love the whole concept behind the Unholy Trinity, that is: AntiChrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals & HolyWood.
To everyone out there: if you love Rock/HardRock, you can stand the fact that your perceptions of life, love and religion will be challenged, then you have to get a Manson CD. Oh yes, and the songs are not half as bad as you thought!
I love the man!
carbon_boy said on October 14, 2004 11:22:
@RoxHard: Go buy that cd! Its worth it - trust me. If you like those 6, you’ll love the others as well. You might just end up buying his whole back catalogue ;o)

One of the things I respect about Manson is the fact that he pisses everyone off, and when the whiny middle-aged americans moan about him - he counter-reacts with the best arguments!
People don’t expect him to have a brain under all that make-up!
I’m gonna buy the Best Of this Saturday. And whatever album has The Fight Song on it - that’s the album I’m gonna buy next. I FRIGGIN’ LOVE THAT SONG!!!
carbon_boy said on October 15, 2004 07:37:
@coyboy: I dont even know where to begin listing my fave Manson songs... have to say that New Model #15, Coma White, Dope Show, B.P., The Nobodies, This Is The New Shit, The Love Song, King Hall 33’, Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth, are my absolute faves.... oh and...and... LOL!
Btw, I love his new look - havent been so happy with his look since M.A.-days.
@RoxHard: Fight Song is on The Best Of and on HolyWood. Yep, its an AWESOME track.... love the live version of it! Have a look at his “Guns, gods and government” DVD.
Coming back to Personal Jesus: every single cover he’s done has been phenominal! Who can forget Tainted Love and Sweet Dreams? Apart from that there’s I put a spell on you which is to die for... scuse the pun ;o)
coyboyusa said on October 15, 2004 10:09:
fight song rule as does love song off the same album, actually theres a manson cover of one of his singles that is hand drawn by him and its errily broken looking like the marie single cover for 2nd chance kinda odd. Manson is supposedly gonna get married to the modle he’s been dating, lol could you imagine :)
RoxHard said on October 16, 2004 03:38:

I bought the little 2 disc version, the 2nd disc containing most of his videos. I can’t wait till my parents go to bed so I can watch it on the big TV we have in the living room! Should be fun!

- Personal Jesus
- Fight Song
- Dope Show
- This Is The New *Hit
- Disposable Teens
- Rock Is Dead
- The Nobodies
- Beautiful People
But there are many more that I like (Tainted Love, mOBSCENE, (s)AINT, Sweet Dreams).
And I never knew Shirley Manson from Garbage featured in the sAINT video. She looks GORGEOUS!!

RoxHard said on October 21, 2004 20:21:
The sAint video is actually my favourite video of his on the DVD. It’s not like Beautiful People or Dope Show or anything else that’s just wierd. It actually is quite extreme. One scene features Marilyn cutting his chest with a razor blade, and rubbing the blood all over his body. The next scene then features Shirley Manson erotically dancing in front of Marilyn (BUT WITH HER CLOTHES ON! SHE’S NOT SLUTTY OR ANYTHING!), and then he *ahem* “wanks” off...
But you don’t see his pee-pee, mind... ;)

And Coyboy. You don’t HAVE to buy the album if you don’t want to. There is a seperate DVD available here in the UK - and you guys over there always get the better stuff from American artists, so I’d imagine you’d get the seperate DVD in the US aswell.
RoxHard said on October 26, 2004 00:29:
Also... I was just watching the DVD and was wondering if anyone else has it? I was searching through the “select video by album” index, and noticed that when you select the Holy Wood - a very cool elctronica-type song plays in the background.
Does anyone know what song that is? Cause I’d like to download it and play this cool song over and over again, cause it will be some time before I can afford to by some of his real albums...
Thanks

Carbon_boy: are you a member of eMule? Cause, as far as I can see - there are 64 people with the (s)Aint video online there right now! If not, I’m sure there are other ways you can find it...
By the way, seeing as how I’m a new Manson convert - can anyone suggest which album I should buy first (or possibly 2)? I am very interested......
And just to prove that I’m not lying about the (s)Aint video being on the Lest We Forget DVD - here is a scan of the album cover (with the sticker).
Also, I suppose I really should have mentioned this earlier, but... I have the CD/DVD set. I’m not ENTIRELY sure whether it’s on the DVD-only or not...
I hope this works, I tried it a minute ago and it didn’t work. You copy and paste the “Tag” URL, right?

Hey RoxHard, I guess your screen looks like this: http://www.manson-world.net/images/photos/CDAlbums/LestWeForget_DVD_08.j...
Mine is missing the middle “diamond” where s(Aint) should be..... oh well, at least all the other extras and bonus features are on it. I shouldnt complain I guess... I also have the cd/dvd, btw.
Concerning your question about what to get next... well, work your way backwards (eventhough it wasn’t intended to be like that). Golden Age Of Grotesque is a hard and violent mix of industrial-strength punk vaudeville with 30s Berlin cabaret decadence. It’s bloody AWESOME. After which it should be HolyWood (part 3 and also the beginning of his Triptych). It’s loud, aggressive and is basically a big ’f*ck you’. It’s a total declaration of war. The other two albums Mechanical Animals (GlamFunkElectronicRock) and Antichrist Superstar(HardLoudMansonRock) would be part 2 and part 1 respectively. It’s actually quite an interesting and eye opening bulk of work, this trilogy. One would think it’s just a bunch of albums, until you realise that it’s actually a story played backwards - about the evolution and revolution of man.
So, yea, Id say start either from the latest and work your way to the earliest, or do it the other way around (if you want to get into that whole Trilogy thing that is).
Enjoy ;o)
PS: OMG, just got the sAint video from BearShare - It’s bloody MARVELOUS! (Scuze the pun) Sex, drugs and RnR - what more can I say?
RoxHard said on November 8, 2004 02:19:
Em... is it OK if I bought Mechanical Animals first? I read your thread a few days ago, and I went to a CD store this afternoon. I seen Posthuman on the Mechanical Animals tracklisting... and I couldn’t resist ;-)
I really wasn’t sure what to expect from a Marilyn Manson album. I listened to clips of all the tracks on his albums, from Antichrist Superstar to Golden Age, and I was pretty dissapointed with the albums in general. But after buying Mechanical Animals in full, it’s evident that Windows Media don’t particularly take the best part of the songs to use as clips. I’m just listening to MA now - and I’m on track 10 (New Model No 15), and I have to say... there is not 1 track on this album that I dislike!
By the way - what do you think of Portrait Of An American Family & Smells Like Children EP? From what I can make of the singles taken from both albums and put on his Best Of - there not very good... is that right?
carbon_boy said on November 8, 2004 07:18:
@RoxHard - MA was also my first Manson cd. I guess it IS a good album to start off with. Guess its cos its more “radio-friendly” in a sense. And no, WinMedia doesnt give the best idea of what the songs are like. I personally think melody wise GoldenAgeOfGrotesque is his best work - you can sing-along with every song. But you wouldnt say that listening to the snippets of it.
Btw, New Model #15 is my fave track off MA - after that its Coma White, Dope Show and Drugs.
Oh yes, you’ll notice that the booklet is split into 2 sections. 1 being Manson and the other being Omega&theMechanicalAnimals - those are the 2 characters Manson portrays on the cd. Omega being the perfect almost unhumanlike person (see New Model #15) and then ofcourse himself (singing about Omega).
You’ll see the number 15 being used quite prominently on the sleeve. On the title, his name, inside the booklet, etc. 15 is the number associated with The Devil tarot card. Omega as a pre-packaged devil, a cool symbol of rebellion stripped of any real potency by the profit-machine that supports him. Also, 15 is between 14 (a “karmic debt” number associated with addiction) and 16 (a “karmic debt” number associated with ego inflation): Omega walks the line between falling prey to the world and its addictions, and falling prey to his destroying himself if he tries to put himself above that world.
There’s more to this album, AntiChrist Superstar & HolyWood than meets the eye. This guy is a genius. Try and find out more about MA, it’ll make the cd so much better and more interesting when you listen to it next time. ;o)
Cheers
RoxHard said on November 12, 2004 06:02:
due to your delicious description of golden age, that is the album i’ve just bought. I APPLAUD YOUR GREAT TASTE IN MUSIC! This is great!
My particular favourites at this moment are the 2 interludes (Thaetre & Obsequey). They’re just so haunting and freaky. And there is this wierd “Goolish” charm about the whole album, a lot of the effects used in the songs remind me of those “Slaught” ghost/monster things from those Legacy Of Kain games...
carbon_boy said on November 12, 2004 11:23:
@RoxHard: Glad I could be of assistance ;o) It’s an awesome cd - like I said before - after MA its my fave cd - actually, they both hold the #1 spot on my Manson chart. LOL! What I love about this album, apart from the in your face, hard hitting f*ck you guitars and drums, is the fact that it’s not about religion. In his words and opening line “Everything has been said before, There’s nothing left to say anymore...” The subject matter’s more related to people’s fetishes and how that motivates their behavior. I love this cd, man, lemme put it on!!!
Cheers ;o)

It’s kinda strange, but when I bought Lest We Forget, I figured that Holy Wood would be the first album I’d buy. It now looks like being the last album I’ll buy (with the exception of the first 2)!

It’s ok - I’m not tooo taken by it. I expected it to be a lot like HolyWood, but isnt. Definitely my least fave album of the last 4. Seems like Mr Manson is getting better and better with age - like a good red wine ;o) But it’s a must have anyways. I think you will enjoy it.

The Lest We Forget DVD is a wierd thing altogether. It seems that when you get something, something else is left off. It says on the little sticker thing that it includes “personal commentary by Marilyn Manson”, but there is no ’commentary’ of any kind to be found on my edition.
And where exactly is this “autopsy” thing?
It sounds pretty good...
carbon_boy said on December 14, 2004 07:08:
All the extra’s are hidden on the dvd ;o) OK, here’s a guided tour of what you need to do to see it:
Credits: Press Left on the Main Menu to see the secret link for the Lest We Forget Credits
Autopsy: Press Left on the Special Features submenu to see the hidden link to the Autopsy video. (And Coy this video was originally included as a link from the Holy Wood CD’s enhanced features)
Disposable Teens performance: Press Left on the Holy Wood submenu for the hidden Mercury symbol link which leads to the performance version video, which Manson made as an alternative airable version if the religious imagery as the original was disallowed by the networks.
Making of the mOBSCENE video: Press Right on The Golden Age Of Grotesque submenu to make manifest the red MM logo which links to the half hour behind the scenes Making Of mOBSCENE special which MTV aired before the release of the album
Ok, that’s it as far as I know.... Hope it helps and you understand how to get to them. Oh yes, and ofcourse the backgrounds for the main menu changes if you jump from the sub menu’s back to it. But you shouldve seen that by now.
Enjoy.... ;o)

RoxHard said on December 23, 2004 01:20:
I just bought Antichrist Superstar and Holy Wood today! I was just browsing around some stores searching for the few Christmas presents I’d still to get. And i realised I had like £40 left over. So I wondered over to HMV and, thankfully, they had them (cause the main reason I bought Golden Age + MA first was because the other 2 weren’t available).
And you were right Carbon_boy, Antichrist Superstar isn’t all I was cracking it up to be. There are some fine moments (like Irresponsible Hate Anthem, The Beautiful People, Little Horn, Angel With The Scabbed Wings and The Reflecting God). But there’s not much else that I like, except possibly Cryptorchid.
Whereas Holy Wood... what a damned fine magnificant album! 19 tracks, 17 of them are fucking surreal! My favourite songs are: the mini trinity (The Love Song, The Fight Song, The Death Song), and also Born Again, King Kill 33, Count To 6 & Die, GodEatGod, Disposable Teens, The Nobodies, Target Audience, Burning Flag, Lamb Of God, In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death... and many more!! After listening to this, I now can say with absolute certainty that the people who think Antichrist Superstar is the pinicle of Mr Warner’s career haven’t been paying attention! ;-)
The amazing thing about Holy Wood is that he figured how to meld the hooks and subtle sonic shading of Mechanical Animals with the ugly, neo-industrial metallicisms of Antichrist Superstar. Much of it’s charm lies in the fact that Manson tried so damn hard to make a great album, perfecting details in the concept, lyrics, themes, production, sequencing, the tarot card parodies in the liner notes, the self-consciously blasphamous cover art. It definately winds up as one of the highlights of my whole CD collection.

Yeah, that’s good news. Have you seen the video for it yet? I think http://www.mansonusa.com has a link to it somewhere... ;-)
Now I think I got some news foryou! ;-)
I’m pretty sure we all know about Columbine, right? Well... Manson is being blamed for a murder in the UK! These is the only things I’ve found out about the situation so far: the remains of UK schoolgirl Jodi Kitt were left in a similar condition to one of Marilyn Manson’s many paintings (one of the paintings that used to be on the official site, it’s the portrait of that murdered actress in 1942), and it’s believed that the murderer (the contivcted 17 year old Luke something) liked Marilyn Manson. This is an old article I found about it. And anyone in the UK can see that report on Sky News - they’ll probably be screening it all day!
Here it is:
JODI COPS STUDY MANSON DVD. Officers say killer may have watched film.
THIS video nasty by shock rocker Marilyn Manson is being scrutinised by detectives hunting the killer of teenager Jodi Jones.
The film - called Doppelherz - shows the Goth star taking a girl bound to another girl into the woods in darkness.
Police yesterday confirmed the images could hold vital clues as they hunt the 14- year-old’s murderer.
One officer said: “We think this film may have special significance and it is being looked at.
“There is a belief that Jodi’s killer may have watched it.”
The film shows the partly naked girls in distress struggling to free themselves before Manson and a henchman tie bags over their heads.
The screen fades to black before their lifeless-looking bodies are dragged away.
The pounding soundtrack features Manson singing: “I’m a canvas that bleeds and I’m painted with fingers.
“Kill me, kill everyone. You can let them all die. The only thing in this world that does not die is money.”
The film is seen as one of the most significant lines of inquiry for police investigating Jodi and her friends’ enthusiasm for Goth music.
Police believe the video may have special relevance to her killer and the way Jodi died near her home in Easthouses, Midlothian.
The DVD film was released in a special format with Manson’s CD, The Golden Age of Grotesque, just weeks before her death on June 30.
It has an official 15 rating and the album which accompanies it comes with a Parental Advisory sticker.
Manson was initially blamed for inspiring the Columbine High School shootings, when two pupils killed 15 classmates.
It later transpired that the two killers didn’t even like the macabre Goth rocker.
After the accusations, Manson said: “It is sad to think that the first few people on Earth needed no books, movies, games or music to inspire cold- blooded murder.
“The day that Cain bashed his brother Abel’s brains in, the only motivation he needed was his own human disposition to violence.
“Times have not become more violent, they have just become more televised.
“We’re the people who sit back and tolerate children owning guns and we’re the ones who tune in and watch the up-to-the minute details of what they do with them.”
Meanwhile, the Sunday Mail can reveal a rapist from Midlothian was released from prison less than two months before Jodi’s murder.
Police had intelligence that the sex offender had made a habit of camping overnight in the woods close to the path in Dalkeith where Jodi’s body was found.
The man has been interviewed and is not thought to be a suspect.
Lothian and Borders Police insist they will find the killer, despite no weapon being found or arrests being made.
RoxHard said on January 21, 2005 14:22:
I hate the media, they are so blood thirtsy! You’d swear from all of this, that Mr Warner personally handed these psychopaths their murder weapons! Like Manson says himself: Even the violence in Shakespeare can lead to a real murder, unless their parents are there to guide them through! To blame Manson for the crimes insane idiots do, it’s similar to blaming Madonna for the amount of gay people in the world (i.e: it’s idiotic! and impossible to prove!!!)
RoxHard said on January 21, 2005 14:24:
On a lighter note.... the new video for The Nobodies is available for viewing here!
http://www.universal-rock.de/index.php?content=artist_start&sub=&artistI...
The audio has been slightly changed, and the video has been re-edited to exclude all the scenes where the now dis-parted member, Twiggy Ramerez, once appeared.
RoxHard said on January 21, 2005 15:05:
Oh, by the way... have you heard Food Pyramid? It’s a song he made for South Park. It’s bloody hilerious!!! It’s Manson’s advice to all the little kids about what to eat! With the typical, happy little background music you always hear on South Park, he sings the following words:
“And when you eat your sweets
Make sure you try
To limit your servings
Or else you’ll........ (screams) DIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!”
carbon_boy said on January 24, 2005 07:40:
Ok, first of all:
The new version of The Nobodies is great!!! Wish he reshot the video tho....
Secondly:
This thing about Mansons so-called influence in the Jodi Murder is like those cooks back in the day screaming “The Devil made me do it!” Listen, I can understand someone saying that Manson influenced him/her to stand up for themselves. But to murder someone? I think not.
Funny that he is releasing The Nobodies again, seeing that it was his comment on the Columbine murders - maybe its not by chance:
“Some children died the other day
We fed machines and then we prayed
Puked up and down in morbid faith
You should have seen the ratings that day”

@ Carbon_boy:
Yeah, I think the new version of The Nobodies is great too! I was actually talking about the remix of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence”. Just so ya know... ;-)

After Luke (something - can’t remember his last name) murdered Jodi (can’t remember her surname either), police say Luke deformed her body to look like the above painting done by Marilyn Manson.
carbon_boy said on January 27, 2005 10:14:
Jeez, hectic. I’ve seen the painting before. Have to say I now looked at it in a completely different way.
I’m sorry, but you must be one f’d up mutha to do something like this - Manson influence or not. I’d say more so if said that his painting/music/film made them do it.
So, RoxHard, have you been able to find the previews or mp3’s of The Nobodies Remixes online yet?
AND, if you ever come across Manson’s contribution to the Party Monster Soundtrack called The La La Song (as performed by his character Christina) lemme know. Cos I’m desperately trying to find it!
Cheers :o)
pumpkins said on January 27, 2005 10:18:
please be sensible. you can not be so gullible as to believe the police would deform a body to make it look like something else.
carbon_boy said on February 1, 2005 08:10:
@ Pumpkins: you seriously have a problem understanding and reading people’s posts. I think YOU need counselling. The police didnt deform the body: “police say Luke deformed her body to look like the above painting done by Marilyn Manson.”
BTW, RoxHard: Have you seen the movie they are talking about, where Manson takes the girls into the woods....???
RoxHard said on February 2, 2005 02:37:
You’re talking about Doppleherz - the movie given as a bonus DVD with original copies of The Golden Age Of Grotesque?
No... I’ve not seen it. But I’m downloading it on eMule right about now. I’m 20+MB into a 160+MB .wmv file! :(
It’s taken 4 days to do that little!
As for The La La Song (Mailyn Manson as Christina Aguilera)... Check your email’s :)
The account you have in your profile, your “yellowwizard.com” account, that’s the correct one, right?
I’ve also sent you a full list of all the b-sides/non-album tracks I have.
Hopefully there are some others there that you don’t have yet :)
Cause I do owe you a lot, without you Carbon Boy, I probably never would’ve persuaded myself to buy all of these great MM albums :)
carbon_boy said on February 2, 2005 08:05:
Thanx for the email RoxHard :oD I appreciate it a lot. Sent you a reply....
I’m downloading the movie now as well.... I’m quite curious to see it.
Later ;o)

@ AprilSnow: I know what you mean.... there’s a lot more concerning the Triptych than what I and the others mentioned.... but even you realised there’s waaaay too much to explain. LOL! Let’s face it, Mr Manson is incredibly intelligent and everytime I listen to one of those albums I find something new. To put it all down in words would take up a book, as you said.
Oh, and I ADORE Lunchbox and My Monkey. I think what was said before is that Manson evolved musically as well. He became louder, larger, heavier, but at the same time more approachable (if thats the right word - still early in the morning). I love this man, and EVERYONE should listen up to what he’s trying to say with his music. They might just learn a thing or two and that might just open their eyes to whats going on around them.
Cheers

OMG there are other Rox fans who like Manson? I thought I was the only one! The two don’t exactly go together. I saw him live twice, once at The Big Day Out festival in 99 and again in 2003. It rocked.

@sparvogamarie: (off-topic): The website-address in your profile does not show anything anymore.

Harriej: Yes I know, my website seems to be cursed. First roxette.org closed and I lost my site. I moved it to cjb and they had a server problem and I lost my whole site again. Then it was hosted at angeltowns.com and they had to delete everything because of some illegal sites that were on their servers. It’s gonna be a while until I can fix it!
harriej said on May 18, 2005 19:41:
Good luck! I hope your next provider is able to keep your site running for as long as you want.

is there anyone here who thinks the new nine inch nails single ” the hand that feeds” is a total rip off of manson, i mean hell twiggy ramirez even does that creepy voice thing he did when he was with mansons band, btw i lvoe trent reznor too :)
sommartiderhejhej said on May 19, 2005 20:18:
Manson is ripping off the version of Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus, so no problem if somebody else is ripping off his music.
Kathrin said on May 20, 2005 13:58:
Harrie you r right !
Covering da good songs is Bad!
And by the way Marylin Manson Sux like Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
coyboyusa said on May 24, 2005 08:26:
kathrin obviusly your grasp of english is as limited as your intelligence :)
carbon_boy said on May 24, 2005 09:41:
@coyboy: It comes down to the mere fact that ppl on this forum haven’t grasped the concept of what a cover is, what ripping off is and what stealing is. And secondly... Manson’s work doesnt make sense to the leeks of this world. They just don’t have the brain capacity to grasp the message/s projected thru his music.

indeed carbon people dont like anything thesed ays that requires them to pay attention for more than 2 minutes its sad
harriej said on October 12, 2004 20:08:
OH NO!! Is there no song safe for the cover-maffia??
And why do they always cover the good songs, the songs of which you know before that the cover can’t be better, but only be worse than the original?
On the other hand, it doesnt make a difference, even the covers of bad tracks are usually even worse than the original.
