Storms 2004

In the midst of everything going on right now: To hell with it all.
I want to take a moment to light a candle for those in Venezuela, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba, and Florida.
This is what’s coming right now: http://www.hurricanetrack.com/Java2/westatl.html
We may have our difference and argue, but right now, Mother Nature is pulling a 1-2-3 punch on the Southeastern United States and the areas of the Carribean.
First was Charley, then Frances, and now Ivan. Ivan has reached a Category Four hurricane and it’s not looking good for the countries / State(s) named. Those that weren’t named will get a MASSIVE amount of rain, but that’s about it. I’ve lived through ONE hurricane. I know what it is like and my heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to the citizens of these locations.
Hurricane Gilbert (September 1988) didn’t make landfall in Florida, but we still got the torrential rains. Here’s how to find out about it:

The drop down will allow you to go back to 1851.

There are a few more behind Ivan the terrible that they are concerned about as well. Thankfully friends have only suffered a bit of damage after Charley and are ok after Frances.

But the people living over there are use to it, and are normally very well prepared...

Ally: They MAY be used to a Category 2... MAYBE a 3. But when a 4 knocks on your door, and then proceeds to remove it AND your house... no matter how “used” to it you get, sometimes, you lose more than you realize.

Mother Nature is just reacting to what us humans are doing to Her. It is known that that area is (has always been) dangerous for such storms, as some others are for earthquakes ... but of course, the hotter Earth goes, the worse these will be, but this is Natural regulation, I guess the Earth + MN are starting to get really fed up with us. These are only warnings...

I am in Fl right now, where Frances went thru. my parents and I are safe, and got away with relatively little damage *thank god*
Ivan better not come here on MY vacation damnit :P

Kachina: Have you taken a look at the projected yet? Hopefully you’ll be granted some reprieve. If not, take the advice of one Hurricane Bouncer: Get out. Cat4s take more than just Fluffy the Dog.

actually judith the hurrican propensity is cyclical, and this year is supposed to be bad, especially with the prolonged drought in africa
Jud (moderator) said on September 9, 2004 15:13:
yes, sometimes it is here, sometimes there.. but I’d bet it’s been like this for ages... just one question: did Indians live in the area where the hurricanes + so on tend to happen?
coyboyusa said on September 9, 2004 18:19:
yup indian tribes did live in florida for some time but not so much the souther portions of the state
ally77 said on September 9, 2004 20:42:
Here in the UK, we are getting more coverage on it that you guys... ;) it’s never off the news...
So it a cat 4 is bad, what’s a cat 5?
Jud (moderator) said on September 9, 2004 20:51:
so Coy, indians lived in the areas where hurricanes didn’t hit so much?
rox-kuryliw said on September 9, 2004 22:27:
Its on the news so much in UK cos the gulf stream is so low all the ex storms are slamming into the UK. Just like in 1989 when UK was in by its biggest storm ever , i remember that it was scary.

The Seminole Indian tribe STILL lives in the Central / Southern portion of Florida.
Ally: Cat 4 - Cat 5, Florida becomes its own little island.
It’s official folks, Ivan has made a turn for Florida.
