Pinnacle Studio Video and sound capture

Hello, I have a totally OFF-Topic Question:
I am using Pinnacle Studio to capture video from my Video Cassette Recorder to my computer (so I can make DVD’s of it instead).
Now I have the problem that the capturing itself goes ok (video and sound are both captured), but in the final stage (make movie) after rendering I only have video, but no sound.
The first part goes ok–> both sound and video
Editing part: here I remove unwanted scenes, like commercial breaks etc.
When I play the different scenes, I still have video and sound, so that seems ok.
Final Step is Rendering and after this stage I don’t have any sound anymore (but I do have video).
I have connected the audio-cables of the VCR to the Audio-In of the soundcard and the composite-videocable of the VCR to the pinnacle capturing card.
This both seems to be ok, since in the first 2 stages I have both sound and video.
Anybody out there who has worked with Pinnacle and has a clue what the problem can be?
I have already upgraded the video and sounddrivers BTW.

According to the help-file of Pinnacle Studio, both video and sound are captured and should be there in the final movie.
Those programmes you mentioned, are they downloadable from some website?

I have no idea if you can download these programs... I had to buy them for the company!
But have you tried exporting the file in MPEG2 after editing it? I think you are gonna need some MPEG2 plug-in of some kind to be able to export in the formats as mentioned.
Let me quickly check what programs i currently have on my PC...

What file format does Pinnacle Studio give you? I doubt it would be a format that a DVD creator would accept... MPEG2 is the default.
I think you’re problem is with the exporting of the end file! Doing some research for you!! It’s rather tough when I’m not there to guide you...!

MPEG-2 indeed, although I can also choose for MPEG-1 as captureformat.
Exporting formats are:
AVI, MPEG and can be exported to DVD, S-VCD, Video-CD.
Maybe you can help me on this one:
Exported Audio is now set to PCM, 16-bit stereo, 48 kHz, but there is a drop-down list with loads of codecs. Maybe I need to choose a different one, but which one?
Video Export is set to:DV Video Encoder, 720x578, 25 frames/second
purplemedusa said on July 25, 2004 20:38:
Okay... how is it going there?
If the export thing doesn’t work the main thing I need to know is what file format does it safe the file and what is the options when you chose to export?
purplemedusa said on July 25, 2004 20:42:
Your audio & video settings are correct...
Okay... is there sound if you export it to either of those formats?
purplemedusa said on July 25, 2004 20:49:
Once you have exported the file successfully in either MGEG1 or 2 (but I perfer 2) you can use a program called TMPGEnc (download it from www.tmpgenc.net) to create your image files & then just burn it onto CD or DVD.... That is a very basic DVD though but it will work!!
harriej said on July 25, 2004 20:52:
No, after exporting (rendering as they call it), the sound is gone, in the editing mode there still is sound.
So it goes wrong in the exporting/rendering.
purplemedusa said on July 25, 2004 20:57:
MMM... but remember sound & video is two different files if you export in some file formats... are you not just opening the video file? Check if there’s no audio file saved together with the video file in the same folder....! Let me know... I’m still scratchin my head here...

Just done some research and it seems more ppl is having similar issues with Pinnacle... especially when it comes to the rendering! And MPEG2 aint a good idea on this particular program... rather use MPEG1... but before I get you totally confused, just check if all your export settings are correct; and that there’s no audio file... good luck!
Well, believe me if you’re trying to do DVD’s on a minimal budget you can count on encountering issues!! Why else would people spend a shit load of money on editing etc programs?!!
harriej said on July 25, 2004 21:59:
It works at this moment!!
I just downloaded a patch and now I have both audio and video.
Purplemedusa: Thanks for thinking with me to get a solution.

harriej said on July 26, 2004 21:17:
I paid 35 euro’s to get the pinnacle-card.
That’s all, so that’s not to expensive.
@LittleSpooky: What exactly did you learn? ;)

Hey Harriej... well, I know from experience DVD’s & VCD’s require you to split the sound... hence you’ll end up with 2 different files.
I’m producing DVD’s myself - for the film company I’m working with. It’s a simple procedure... capture the clips (in Avid Express or Final Cut Pro) ... edit them... and then export them into MPEG2 (PAL) format leaving me with .m2v and .avi files. You can then use these files in a programs such as DVDstudioPro to create a DVD.
Hope this is of any help to you! Let me know!!
