As long as Bielsa is our manager I have no faith in our team as a team.
Vixzter said on July 7, 2004 05:36:
Ummmm.... the European championship is every 4 years so it falls between the world cup, which just happens to clash with the olympics this year as it did in 2000 so the Copa America has to fit in somewhere and its alwas going to clash with something.
Usualy the European Championship is alot earlier I think so that its finished in June rather than July.
Anyway I’ll be house sitting for my dad for the next couple of weeks and he has satellite tv and he’s just brought himself a 42” plasma screen!!! woo hoo, I can watch the footie as if I was there! :-) its massive >;)
Roxrider_USA said on July 7, 2004 14:04:
@Santi: You are right. It goes in a sequence (June, July and August).
@Vixzter: Have fun watching South American soccer.
@Ferdan: Why is Bielsa called Él Loco”? Is It because he keeps walking back and forth along a small section of the coaching area?
Peru 2 x Bolivia 2 was the final result for that match. It was a very thrilling match up by the way.

Today there’s action in group B.
México x Uruguay (6:15 pm US EST)
Argentina x Ecuador (8:30 pm US EST)
Any of you saw the first Bolivian goal and the second Peruvian goal. Both were so amazing. I don’t know which one was the most beautiful.
Take care.

Mexico 2 - 2 Uruguay
Have to say....the grass looked very long on that pitch.
Ferdan said on July 8, 2004 22:12:
Yeh, Bielsa is “el loco” ’cos he´s almost crazy, he has weird expressions on his face, he talks to you in a strange way, and he yells like crazy on the field.
Argentina 6 - Ecuador 1
And see?? Bielsa never liked Saviola, he always prefered the dumbass Crespo...
and Crespo would never be able to make 3 goals like Saviola did.
Anyway the match wasn´t tactically difficult for Bielsa ;)
Roxlander said on July 8, 2004 22:17:
My country, Costa Rica, takes part of this Copa América, because they were invited after USA gave up. Today is our first game, against Paraguay. Last Copa América we went like the “Cinderella” of the competition, and we finally reached #5, a big surprise for the world and a total success for us. This year a lot of things have happened and we don’t know how lucky we’re gonna be, but I wish all luck to our footballers.
Ticos! Ticos! Ticos!
Roxrider_USA said on July 9, 2004 13:52:
@Ferdan: Thanks for the insight on Bielsa’s behavior.
Concerning Argentina’s match against Ecuador, you are right, it wasn’t a tactically hard game for you guys. But anyway, Argentina played very well. Not for the size of the final score but for the way the plays were executed. The last goal was a materpiece. Just lovely for any soccer fan. Congrats!

Scores for yesterday’s matches were:
Paraguay 1 x 0 Costa Rica
The paraguayan goal was scored around the 43 minute of the second half.
Brasil 1 x 0 Chile
The chilean defensive tactic was mad hard to break through. Unbelievably crazy. I’m glad Brazil was able to score a late match goal. Luís Fabiano scored.

Roxlander said on July 9, 2004 17:43:
It’s a shame Costa Rica lost, they didn’t deserve it. We had doubts about the new coach, but the team is getting better at least. A stupid penalty, five minutes before the end of the game, and now things look harder.
But Brazil wasn’t good enough as I expected. Chile deserve at least one goal.
Roxrider_USA said on July 9, 2004 19:32:
The goal that Chile deserved was missed when they went Beckham style and kicked the ball over the bar after taking the penalty kick.
Brazil’s golie Julio Ceser is one of the best in Brazil. Yesterday, he showed why.
The game was too closed. Chile did a excellent job stoping Brazil’s passing. That’s why i said above that Chile went to play the game with a mad hard , to break through, defensive tactic.
Today the following match ups will occur:
Colombia x Bolívia and Venezuela x Peru.
Take care!
Carlos E., New York.
Roxrider_USA said on July 9, 2004 19:35:
@Roxlander: You guys lost the easiest game you got in this group.
Next is Costa Rica x Brazil and then,
Costa Rica x Chile.
If Chile plays like they did agaist Brazil, you guys will have a nasty problem to solve.
Later!
Carlos E., New York.
Roxlander said on July 9, 2004 20:05:
@Roxrider, you’re right, that was the game to win. But well, luck wasn’t on our side. Brasil and Chile are much better teams than Paraguay, so we’ve got it hard. But we’ll try.
In every big competition where Costa Rica takes part we have to play against Brazil, that’s our terrible fate. But in Korea-Japan we played a great game, even when we lost 5-2, that was one of the best games of the World Cup.
PureBrazilianRJ said on July 9, 2004 20:49:
@Roxlander
Don’g give up hope because in my opinion Costa Rica played a much better footbal than Paraguay!! Just like you said before, they were unlucky not to score! I wish you good luck against Chile and hopefully you’ll get through to the next round with 3 points.
Group C.
1. Brazil...................9 pts
2. Chile....................3 pts
3. Costa Rica........... 3 pts
4. Paraguay..............3 pts
Thats how Group C will look like in the end. Hopefully for you Roxlander, Costa Rica will be one of the best 2 third places. Good luck.
Roxrider_USA said on July 11, 2004 18:42:
@Roxlander: You are right. Lately, in major soccer competitons, Costa Rica ends up playing against Brazil. The world cup match up in Korea/Japan was a great game. Costa Rica played well. However, the ithing is that if you give the brazilian attacking players space they will just keep on scoring. That’s why, even though Costa Rica scored twice, Brazil still socred 5 goals. If you want to have any chance of beating Brazil, you gotta play just like Chile played and don’t miss penalty kicks.
@PureBrazilianRJ: I also believe Brazil will finish in first place with 9 points. The others to go through will Chile and Costa Rica.
Take care.
Carlos E., New York.
Roxrider_USA said on July 12, 2004 14:01:
Results from yesterday:
Brazil 4 x 1 Costa Rica
Paraguay 1 x 1 Chile
Alex and Adriano were the men of the for Brazil. During the first half Brazil was kind of lost. Costa Rica was playing better. At the end of the first half, Costa Rica gave Brazil a chance and that is all that is needed for the 5 time world champions to score. The second half Costa Rica had no chance at all. They got hopeless. However they managed to socre a goal when the brazilian defense made a mistake in forming an offiside line.
Paraguay x Chile was a nice game. Both teams went after the victory. Ironically, the game ended in a tie.
Mexico x Argentina was a excenllent game. Argentina play much better than Mexico and constantly kept on attacking the Mexican back line. Fortunately for the mexicans, their free kick goal in the first half gave them to victory due to their excellent defensive that somehow managed to stop the never tiring Argentina attacking players.
Take care!
Carlos E., New York.
Roxlander said on July 12, 2004 22:05:
Guys you were totally right. And once again when Costa Rica was playing better a little mistake and Brazil scored... and that was the end. It’s a shame, but I’m happy because our team is getting better, an example of that was the first game. Now we’re almost hopeless, we must win to Chile to try to be the second best third place.
PureBrazilianRJ said on July 13, 2004 03:06:
@Roxlander You guys have a good chance against Chile!! Keep up the good work, and keep playing a happy football that there will be rewards in the near future! Here i leave my guess lolz...
Costa Rica 2 x Chile 0 or 1
Good luck.
Roxrider_USA said on July 13, 2004 17:26:
Costa Rica must win to go through as one os the best third place teams. Otherwise, Bolivia will go through with 2 points.
I’m not cosidering Ecuador because for them it’s virtually imposible. Let’s say that all they have to do is pray for Uruguay to beat Argentina preferably by more than 2 goals and beat Mexico also by more than 2 goals. That’s a very complicated job to get done. If they pull that off, then they will qualify in third place and disqualify Argentina. Wouldn’t it be amazing ?
Yesterday results were:
Venezuela 1 x 1 Bolívia
Colombia 2 x 2 Peru , both a qualified to the next round.
Colombia x Peru was a very good match.
Matches for today:
México x Ecuador at 6:15 pm US EST
Argentina x Uruguay at 8:30 pm US EST
Later!

Partidazo!!
Costa Rica did it! In a very exciting game that’s the team we like. Finally Costa Rica is returning to the level we had about two years ago.
Did you see the game? The last minutes were come and go. Chile did a great game too, but we had to win, it was fair.
Last ten seconds... goal! And now Costa Rica-Colombia.
Roxlander said on July 15, 2004 22:14:
Thank you Ferdan ;-)
Let’s hope this weeken we can enjoy good games. Finally I’ll watch them all, because of work I’ve only watched some.
Santi said on July 19, 2004 10:07:
Wow what a big surprise!!!
Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil in the semifinals! :D
Roxlander said on July 19, 2004 22:27:
Yep Santi, nothing new. For a little moment a thought Costa Rica could be a nice surprise, but the dream is over. We tried, and with a new manager two weeks before the tournament we did our best. Maybe next time.
Now I expect Brasil or Argentina to win. That would be a good final match.
PureBrazilianRJ said on July 21, 2004 04:25:

And thats what the final is coming up to be!! Argentina is already in the final and Brazil has a big chance of beating Uruguai! Final Brazil and Argentina!!!
Santi said on July 21, 2004 05:06:
Come on Uruguay! :P Brazil is not that good this time, we can beat them as well :D:p
Roxlander said on July 21, 2004 22:24:
I want to see Brazil and Argentina in the final. Yesterday Argentina finally showed what they’re are made of, pure football. That game was a real lesson of good football.
I hope Brazil give us a great show tonight too.
PureBrazilianRJ said on July 22, 2004 03:15:

The Copa America is coming to an end, and sunday we’ll know who the champion will be! I’m so proud of this Brazilian team because they are not the 1st team. They are Brazil’s 2nd team, the team that will be playing on the world cup 2010... and yet we are on the final! Congrats to all of the Brazilian players.
Roxrider_USA said on July 22, 2004 18:06:
That’s a nice point to make!
We are in the final against Argentina with team B, cause the main team with all the super stars are on vacation.
Sometimes not even i know how Brazil does that.
On sunday, the greatest single match up in soccer will keep millions of soccer lovers seated in front of the tv starting at 3 pm US ES.

Copa America has been a success!!
Until it has produced 72 goals, plus the 8 penalty shoot out goals in the BRA X URU match.
No team has had 100% efficiency; meaning the all teams lost at least a game.
Highlights:
Costa Rica advance to the quater-final.
Brazil’s loss to Paraguay olympic team.
Argentina’s loss to Mexico.
Ecuador’s failure to sum up 1 point.
And, a heavenly final; BRA X ARG, ARG X BRA!
Let’s see what Brazil’s team B can do agaisnt the Argentina’s team A.
Later!

Ferdan said on July 22, 2004 19:56:
Argentina is not completely the team A, there are many young players and debutants and some of the oldies weren´t allowed to play.
Roxrider_USA said on July 22, 2004 21:03:
@Ferdan: Thanks for correcting me. :-)
So what do you consider the team to be? A team B or a mixed squad?
Later!
Carlos E., New York.
Ferdan said on July 22, 2004 23:48:
well, aimar.. verón... crespo there are a few more (tho I don´t like neither veron or crespo).
But there´s something peculiar with the team, we have many “more or less debutants” in la selección mayor (and/or players that bielsa never liked, (Tevez for example, btw his free kick goals rate is 100% in his whole career... because he made 2 out of 2 hahaha) and they all are playing REALLY well, there´s almost 2 great players for each position.
Anyway, that´s why it isn´t the A team in terms of bielsa’s typical choices, and he made it thinking of the olimpics as well.
so it´s a strange mix that everyone is liking ;)
Roxlander said on July 23, 2004 20:33:
I was a little disappointed of Brasil because I didn’t like that much how they played against Uruguay, they even had to wait the lucky round of penalties. But giving it a second thought, you’re right, that’s Brazilian B Team, and they’re in the final. It’s true that Argentina doesn’t count with all its stars either, but at least they have more famous players than Brazil.
I really expect a great game on Sunday. Argentina has showed a great level and the young Brazilian players want a page in history too.
Good luck to both teams!!
Roxrider_USA said on July 24, 2004 13:11:
The game has all the necessary parts to be a great one.
Just waiting for the referee to blow his whisle.

Ferdan said on July 25, 2004 22:06:
la concha de su madreeeeeee
Argentina played much better, but oh well... Bielsa is dumb.
Roxrider_USA said on July 26, 2004 00:50:
@Ferdan: lol. Congrats friend. It was a very nice game! What do you think?
You gotta love Adriano. First half Argentina ruled. However, the second half was much tighter. Diego crossed the ball to Adriano inside the box who was sorrounded by like 3 to 4 defenders and somehow he did his magic. Loved it! It was already like 47 minutes of the second half.
In the penalty kicks, the heros, for brazilians, were the brazilian goal kepeer and the 2nd Argentinian who missed just like Baggio did in the final of the WC USA 94.
All in all, the game was awesome. A true BRA X ARG’; ARG X BRA match.
This should help Brazil make France eat dust in the FIFA World Rank. Now this will definetaly make France or any other national team take a while to reach Brazil.
Congrats to the brazilian team B. Never gave up!
Take care!
Carlos E., New York.
Ferdan said on July 26, 2004 01:25:
Argentina ruled the game, at least 70% of the time.
Bielsa distracted teh whole team when he substituted Tevez. Also Tevez was a great pain in the ass for Brazil, so when he got out of the game everyone in Brazil could go and attack really easy and we saw the results. And the penalties were also Bielsa’s fault, the best kickers should kick firts... and he put the worst in 1st place.
anyway, i´m happy with the players of our team, it´s going to be a great team, with or without Bielsa.

Congratulations Brazil! And congratulation Argentina too, because they also did it great! But that’s fate, thirty seconds to the end... unbelievable. I think that must hurt :-p
Those new Brazilian players have a wonderful future. I think Adriano will become a super star in next years. And of course Diego too. I hope the same for Renato, I don’t know why but I like that player a lot.
Now let’s wait for more football in the Olympic Games.
Santi said on July 7, 2004 03:27:
Why isn’t it every two years like it used to be, the ones that neither Euro Cup or World Cup was being played? It was much funnier then, every year you had one big tournament. Now we get Euro Cup, Olympic Games and Copa América all at once!
