JULY 5: 50 YEARS OF ROCK!

Monday, July 5 will be a special day, as one of the key elements in the launching of the rock & roll revolution will be celebrated around the globe. That being the date of ELVIS’s first recording session.
At 12 noon ET, radio stations around the world are encouraged to simultaneously play “That’s All Right (Mama).”!!!
The original recording will be available live via satellite from the Sun Studio in Memphis with Scotty Moore, Elvis Presley’s original guitarist, launching the celebration. Memphis will serve as the hub of the July 5th celebration, hosting star-studded concerts and festivities throughout the day.
Also, if you missed it, the DVDs of Elvis’ 1968 TV special (now usually referred to as “the ’68 comeback”) and Aloha from Hawaii (1973) were released on June 22. With all the extras (including rehearsals), the ’68 DVD has some seven hours’ worth of material.
As Aloha was a live concert, there isn’t as much footage for DVD release, but the package does contain the program as originally seen (in North America) on NBC (which was in early April, over two months after the original satellite feed to the rest of the world which began just afer 2 a.m. Jan. 14, 1973) and a newly-edited version without all those annoying split-screens, and a full rehearsal.
In addition, the new issue of TV Guide (on newsstands now, as they say) is being printed with four different Elvis covers, and each copy has a mini-CD with both sides of Elvis’ first single (“That’s All Right” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky”), along with an unreleased version of the former. The CD is designed to look like an original Sun single.
