“Dear Sir,
PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL URGENT BUSINESS.
I am Mr. williams , Director of Gateway Bank Nigeria Plc, Lagos-Nigeria.
Am writing to you upon a request for a trusted and reliable and GOD
fearing foreign business man/woman or company.
PROPOSITION:
A German Mr. Alber Johnson, 65 years of age and who was based in Nigeria
as a contractor had in our Bank the sum of 3MillionUSD in a domiciliary
account. He named his wife, Mrs. Cyndy Johnson as the next of kin.
Unfortunately, two of them were killed in the plane crash involving
concord AF4590 in Gonesse, France. Effort had been made by the management
of my Bank through the German Embassy in Lagos to contact any of the
deceased children but to no avail, as we were made to understand that the
couple had no child owing to the skeletal information available to the
bank, it has so far been impossible to reach any of the relatives. The
option left for the bank management is to declare the deceased account
dormant and revert the funds to trading on behalf of and in the interest
of the Bank.
In order to avoid this development, my Colleagues and I now seek your
permission to have you stand a s a distant relative to Mr. and Mrs. Alber
Johnson, so that the funds would be released to you. All documents and
proofs to enable you get the funds will be carefully worked out on our
receiving your consent to this proposal, we would immediately obtain for
an order of mandamus from the Federal High court of Justice on your behalf
recognizing you as a bona-fide relative to the deceased and subsequently
apply for the release of the funds to you as the beneficiary, through the
Central Bank Of Nigeria.
May I assure you that this Transaction is 100% risk-free, as we have taken
care of all necessary modalities to ensure a hitch-free transaction. To
this effect my colleagues and I have agreed to compensate you with 30% of
the total sum of 3MillionUSD for your kind assistance i.e. provision of
a nominated Foreign Bank Account to accommodate the fund for us.
If this proposal is acceptable to you, please contact me strictly through
my E-mail: [email protected], and note to forward to me your
information
if you are interested and willing to asist such as:
Your full name,
Telephone,
Fax number,

All this is for ease communication.

This is about the 6th e-mail I’ve gotten from someone claiming to want to give me $500,000,000! It sounds a bit too good to be true... I’m starting to get worried that it’s Al Quida or something!

Thankx...
It’s just that this was my first time getting spam without it being about ’300 Viagra Pills for $2.99’ or ’Refinance Your House with our special limited offer 1000% Interest Rates’.
I was getting a bit worried.

Most definately a scam. The next step is to get your bank account information so they can deposit the money, then once they have it they clean you out.
Is there a Better Business Bureau or some sort of fraud bureau that you could report this to? Maybe they’ll be able to trace the con artists and ut them out of business.

This is a tried and tested ’419’ type scam which typically always originates from Nigeria (although other countries are also starting to do it now too).
The following explanation is taken from the very excellent: http://www.419eater.com
* An individual or company receives a letter or fax from an alleged “official” representing a foreign government or agency.
* An offer is made to transfer millions of dollars in “over invoiced contract” funds into your personal bank account.
* You are encouraged to travel overseas to complete the transaction.
* You are requested to provide blank company letterhead forms, banking account information, telephone/fax numbers.
* You receive numerous documents with official looking stamps, seals and logo testifying to the authenticity of the proposal.
* Eventually you must provide up-front or advance fees for various taxes, attorney fees, transaction fees or bribes.
* Other forms of 4-1-9 schemes include: c.o.d. of goods or services, real estate ventures, purchases of crude oil at reduced prices, beneficiary of a will, recipient of an award and paper currency conversion.

Is this some sort of mass networking scheme, or is someone actually sending me these disturbing e-mails personally?
