Strangest choice as a single release
LaMan said on April 20, 2004 15:52:
Almost Unreal, no hit potential at all! what do you think? :D
Rich-UK said on April 20, 2004 16:47:
You Don’t Understand Me - in my opinion, any of the other 3 new songs would have been a better choice!
Roxette-atic said on April 20, 2004 16:51:
June Afternoon & She Doesent Live Here Anymore
Anyone & Savlation
animalkingdom said on April 20, 2004 17:50:
The strangest of them all is “Salvation” although it did score a top-20 hit here in Finland.
A good runner-up would have to “Vulnerable”. Come on!
marcusvandeursen said on April 20, 2004 18:05:
most stunned i’m still by the release of ’i want you to know’ as a solo single by per in 1997....
Roxette-atic said on April 20, 2004 19:26:
Ferdan: I mentioned Anyone!! :) I was so mad when they released it as the second single after Wish I Could Fly. I was 100% sure it was going to flop. And I was right! ( I know, I didnt have a life 5 years ago, now I do:)

from look sharp
well that had to be chances, great album song but as a single it was absurd
from joyride: the big l
i love the song and the video of dyge was meant to be a top 10 hit
tourism: fingertips
granted it wasn’t an international single but the rain woulda made a kick ass video
cbb: vulnerable
when whats she like was so much more wanted by fans
eurohits: ydum
only because emi promised i dont want to get hurt i would have wanted it instead ydum gives me the creeps
hand: anyone: pnly again because we were promised crush but i fell in love with anyone so i’ll be quiet
roomservice: real sugar
looking for jane woulda been a summer hit
ballad hits: i got a thing
only beacuse breathe would have been a top 10 hit
pop hits: opp nox
sad horrid video i wan’t my making love video
roxtexanet said on April 21, 2004 06:05:
@marcus: I agree! I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that “I Want You To Know” was going to be the third “TWATG” single... yuck! A lot of solo singles are poorly chosen I think... “Silver I Din Hand” is a weird one, and I really didn’t get “Tycker Om Nar Du Tar Pa Mej,” but obviously I was very wrong about that one (-: “Vulnerable” was a strange choice...
sofiab said on April 21, 2004 13:01:
I still don’t understand why they didn’t let Crush on you go as a single....
marcusvandeursen said on April 21, 2004 13:20:
Tycker om nar du tar pa mej is one of the best songs ever I think and definitely my favourite of his latest work apart from HKAK... great choice...
Some not so good choices (and better recommendations) according to my humble self...
1986 I call your name... had chosen From one heart to another instead
1989 Dangerous... had rather released silver blue or the voice both on the album and as a single
1991 church of your heart... better chosen Excited indeed or perhaps even soul deep or perfect day
1992 queen of rain... better chosen teh shorter titled ’the rain’
1994 fireworks... had better chosen what’s she like or do you wanna go the whole way...
1995 you don’t understand me... i don’t want to get hurt
1999 anyone.... CRUSH ON YOU! Worst decision ever probably when it comes to cancelling previously planned roxette singles.
2001... pity that looking for jane or it takes you no time to get there were not released as 4ht (evt. 5th) single(s)
2002... A thing about you... breathe would have definitely had a bigger impact.
2003... opportunity nox... prefer little miss sorrow or even roxette’s stupid (which Per unfortunately did not release himself in the UK as initially planned in 1997)
SOLO - will name first the actual singles, followed by better suggestions in brackets
MARIE Het vind (Jag gar min väg), Silver i din hand (För dom som älskar), Så länge det lyser... (Det jag verkligen ville), Ber bara en gång (Berusa mig)..
PER: Galning (Rickie lee), IWYTK (Reporter, Stupid or BAny1UWannaB)
GT: Teaser japanese... better chosen Break another heart
rox-kuryliw said on April 21, 2004 13:35:
church of your heart without a doubt
a thing about you as first single aswell.
animalkingdom said on April 21, 2004 16:09:
I don’t think “Anyone” as a single was bad...Just the timing. Like with most of Roxette’s flop singles.
marksufc said on April 21, 2004 17:07:
agree with you on that coyboy accept the ccb choice, vulnerable was a sensational song worthy of at least a top 5 chart position
animalkingdom said on April 21, 2004 17:11:
@ above
Sensational??? The highest it got was no. 12 (in Sweden). They never even bothered to play it live in order to see the “classic-effect” among the audience!
marksufc said on April 21, 2004 17:16:
i thought it would have gone higher than number 12 especially in sweden but that was my opinion, still love the song today just as much as i did back then
animalkingdom said on April 21, 2004 17:37:
Well according to the BH booklet it enjoyed success on the airplay charts for a year or so, so I guess there’s something special about that track.
I am not saying it is a bad song (very nice & special, in fact) but a single... yeah! noooo!!
ally77 said on April 21, 2004 18:09:
Anyone... good video - poor song...
Salvation.... good song.. poor video...
The worst was She Doesn’t live here Anymore...
Roxette-atic said on April 21, 2004 20:04:
@ally77
Great that someone else in this page dont like SDLHA very much ( or at least think it was an awful single :) I have always dissed that song and everytime I do someone goes ” oh, , thats one of the best songs” etc etc
Kiwein1 said on April 21, 2004 20:19:
Don’t like SDLHA either - and I really wouldn’t ever have released it as a single.
Anarem said on April 21, 2004 22:09:
I agree– SDLHA was an awful single. It doesn’t sound very Roxette at all. Nice video though.
roxchick said on April 22, 2004 02:08:
I love the vid to SDLHA but as a single, not the best choice. I also don’t like Vulnerable, i’m sick of it and the hype about it, simply not a good single choice. Salvation does it for me every time but the video’s just not worth mentioning.
As for earlier stuff, I liked I Call Your Name but simply as an album track. The Big L. is an appaling single and people just passed by Roxette after that one *from what i’ve seen*
I can’t understand how such a talented band with such ’Classic’ songs that will stay with you forever can make such atrocious decisions when it comes to releasing singles.
carbon_boy said on April 22, 2004 06:27:
I think this comes down to personal choice. Cos we have mentions of: Almost Unreal (UK top10), Opp Nox, COTH, Fireworks, etc. as bad choices.
I think the only bad single choices they made were the singles they released which made the albums drop in the charts. These being: Run To You (CBB), Anyone (HAND) & Real Sugar (RS). Apart from that, I dunno. I think HAND’s poor chart performance has a lot to do with the singles they released off it - what a poor selection and then the one song that had to up the sales again had a really weird and non-sensible video (Stars). They would’ve been much better off with Stars/COY being the 2nd single.
Anyways...
Cheers
gessleism said on April 22, 2004 06:42:
From Joyride - The Big L. (there were better songs than this one)
From HAND - Anyone (before a ballad “WICF”, another ballad? Big mistake)
From RS - Real Sugar (I like it but I think there were better songs than this one for second single)
carbon_boy said on April 22, 2004 10:30:
@LaMan: It’s not about not liking Anyone. I think its 1 of Rox’s best songs. It just didnt work as the 2nd single from HAND - not after WICF. Stars/COY wouldve worked better.
Cheers
animalkingdom said on April 22, 2004 11:02:
@ LaMan
How come AU doesn’t have hit potential? I think it was made to be a smash! After all, it did reach #7 in the UK, #8 in Sweden, Top-20 in Germany and even the Billboard Hot 100 ;-) (#94, though...)
tavo said on April 22, 2004 11:20:
from each album:
-goodbye to you
-chances
-church of your heart
-fingertips
-vulnerable
-she doesn´t live here anymore
-anyone (after wicf)
-real sugar and m&t&h
James_Earp said on April 22, 2004 12:58:
anyone is the worst singel. they should realesd Crush on you as second, anyone as third and stars as fourth
James_Earp said on April 22, 2004 13:01:
why si almost everyone picking on vulnerable?? it is one of there best ballads. and a perfect singel, and a big hit. 13 weeks on the biggest radio chart show in sweden and number two as the best.
Zargo said on April 22, 2004 14:28:
I wonder about vulnerable (not because I don’t like the song).
Was it really enough of a hit to be on ’don’t bore us...?’
animalkingdom said on April 22, 2004 17:08:
Well judge for yourself, can you consider a song a hit (by Roxette’s standards) if it reaches
#12 in Sweden,
#44 in the UK,
#71 in Germany,
and that’s pretty much it!
Oh, and that that the GreatEST hits you were talking about...? >;)
antz said on April 29, 2004 12:40:
agree with you carbon-boy
Why did they choose Real sugar at all? I think its one of the worst rox songs. Why did they release another similar sounding uptempo song as the single after TCOTH? Video was also similar and in my opinion is one of the worst videos too.
They repeated same mistake as with WICF and Anyone (2 ballads).
I hope they get it right on their next album. Correction... they BETTER get it right on their next album!
abysmo said on April 30, 2004 13:19:
All singles from POP album, much better are Surrender, Voices, Like Lovers Do, Joy Of A Toy
Fingertips from Tourism, better are Comeback, Silver Blue, The Rain or Cinnamon Street
Anyone and Salvation on HAND, better are Crush On You, 727, Pay The Price, It Will Take... and MATAH on Room Service, much better choice is Make My Head..., My World... or Jefferson.
A Thing.. is good but Breathe is better for releasing as a single, Opportuinity Nox is perfect, but Little Miss Sorrow(briliant song, sounds like Rox in the beging of 90´s) are great too. Rox could released Breathe even LMS as as 2nd singles from Hits albums.
Baby-C said on May 1, 2004 23:30:
Why do you complain abot Vulnerable? It is a very good song, and as I was in school when it was released, I noticed that many other people liked that song to. We actually played it every day in school for a few weeks. And it was not ME that had it on the tape we were playing.
EDIT: They should have released Crush on you instead of Anyone... And maybe She doesn’t live here anymore, instead of You don’t understand me.
As for Per solo work, he should have released Spegelboll instead of På promenad genom stan.
Kiwein1 said on April 20, 2004 16:33:
Church of your heart - if you consider that DYGE originally should be the 5th single out of Joyride. DYGE is a masterpiece, COYH is simply BORING.
