Anastacia vs. Roxette

A track from Anastacia’s new album is compared to the great ones in a review published on the UK site Dotmusic (oh, sorry... it’s Launch UK now...). Here’s an excerpt:

“Power ballad “Heavy On My Heart” is prime for a soft focus video, fun sing-along “Sexy Single” is fun in a Roxette way and “Time” is straight out of the Bon Jovi song book of big belters.”

Hey, Dotmusic NEVER says anything nice about Roxette. Ever. So this is worth posting (-:

The full review is here:

Anyone else think of Taylor Dayne when they see or hear Anastacia? “Honey, I’ll be-e-e-e-e-e-e your shelter...” (-:

First of all: I like Anastacia. Like her music and her looks ;-)

The latest single “left outside alone” is brilliant! And yes, Taylor Dane could be Anas mother! :D

Ye i think roxette need to sit down and look at here album for the old rox sound to be found for insperation. :-D like or marie or per will care what i think anyway , but i think a change of producer is in order aswell i think :-O

I remember when I first heard “I’m Outta Love.” I was surprised at how much she sounded like Taylor Dayne. I can’t wait to get Anastacia’s new album, since it’s not available in the USA yet (who knows if it will ever be).

why wouldn’t it be available in USA, it thought thats where she’s from??

Roxette is the only artist there not highlighted. Dotmusic still doesnt like them. I like her new song ’left outside alone’. It sounds a little bit like Roxette. Yes, she doesnt sound like Marie but the song structure and ’turn on the electric guitars chorus ’sounds like the good old Roxette days.

Yeah, they’re not in bold like Bon Jovi for instance... Those bastards!! But hey, there’s a way to stand out ;)

I don’t like her voice, really... Sounds like a cat being killed )-:

@ lonely_girl: I don’t like the voice either... :S

“why wouldn’t it be available in USA, it thought thats where she’s from??”

Because all USA radio cares about playing is R&B/Hip-Hop trash. Anastacia’s first 2 albums were released in the USA - much later than Europe - but they didn’t fare very well. That’s why I hope this 3rd one gets a release here in the USA.

Amazing how Anastacia is from the USA and she doesn’t even do that well here. Go figure.

i dont like her voice either, its really sounds like horn of firemen....

I never heard Anastacia. Un/Luckily some artists never get into the radios here in Argentina. I liked Taylor very much. “Love will lead you back” was one of my favs.

Roxette was mentioned again in Launch this week, don’t remeber what review it was. I think it got 7/10. They are in bold.

The Rasmus - ’In The Shadows’
(Tuesday April 13, 2004 5:18 PM )

Released on 05/04/2004
Label: MCA

Our European Cousins of Rock have never knowingly shied away from the huge dumb hook. From Europe (of “Final Countdown” fame) to Roxette – and probably before – the benefit of utilising skyscraper-sized riffs to conquer foreign boundaries has been proved time and time again.

And so it is with The Rasmus, who must have broken out in a collective display of backslapping the moment they nailed the “oh-oh, oh-oh” part of “In The Shadows” knowing that it would soon be rocking discos from Helsinki to Prague.

The UK is always the last to cotton on to such records, but we too will prove fallible to what is essentially the Finnish Evanessence. The combination of goth pomp and nu-metal - all bound together by that riff – means The Rasmus cannot fail. It’s their destiny.

The sort of record art school students will dance ironically too in a decade’s time and for the rest of us will remain a guilty pleasure. Top Three at the very least.

LOL, that made me laugh so hard!!

Geezuz that is a hell of an sarcastic review! The implication is the only good (rock) music comes out the US (assuming that Launch review is from the states...isn’t it?)... I do have to agree that European rock is a little lacking, but Europeans have forged their own identity, i would say. Europeans are masters of dance music tho, wouldn’t you agree. On the other hand, rock is meeting its demise at the hands of the US radio stations, who just play hiphop these days. Why diss european music when US popular music is crap anyway? geez!

As for voices, britney sounds like a duck with a sore throat. NEXT!!!! :P

yes Anastacia sounds so Taylor Dayne! :D

i repect anistacia but noone here knwos her or has cared much for her music and yes she does rip off taylor dane alot
