Återtåget Rerelease with English subtitles
roxlad said on April 9, 2004 14:24:
If you believe the DVD release of Återtåget should have English subtitles please leave a message.
#1 I do!
You never know if it works...
LittleGirl78 said on April 9, 2004 15:20:
I think that on a DVD it´s no problem to make english subtitles! So why not? I would like to have the DVD with english subtitles. ;D
HummingBird said on April 9, 2004 15:23:
I don’t think it’s a technical problem. But you have to spend money to have it all translated - and I’m not sure if that would pay back given that the vast majority of people interested in GT speak Swedish. However, good luck :-)
kriszta said on April 9, 2004 16:08:
I agree and with Mazarin too.
Tevensso! You are swedish, so you speak easy about this!
on_a_mission said on April 9, 2004 16:42:
well, I think tev will get a million before we get subtitles, but hey....
ally77 said on April 9, 2004 17:03:
And by the time we reach a million... it will have been released on DVD... and re-released on an even special DVD with extra’s and possibly even re-released again!
roxlad said on April 9, 2004 18:59:
he he.... well they should know that a lot of fans from outside Sweden are going to buy the DVD if it has subtitles.
daniel_alv said on April 9, 2004 20:00:
tomas ledin had subtitles in many languages, so why not subtitles on GT? I don’t think it’s impossible...
sommartider said on April 9, 2004 20:06:
Of course it coast money to translate it, but think that big part of the dvd sales will be thanks a lot of roxette’s fans all over the world.
I agree with the translation idea!
Eloy said on April 9, 2004 20:34:
the last night I just watched the Atertaget video once again with a friend and I thought it would be a great idea editing the dvd with english subtitles :) there are a lot of fans outside of Sweden needing that! so I hope we all get it.
Ferdan said on April 9, 2004 20:56:
There many non-english artist that release DVDs with english subtitles, not doing so is a little shortsighted....
It doesn’t even take full day of work to build them.
tevensso (moderator) said on April 10, 2004 00:26:
Sorry but this is just a dream, I tell you now, there won’t be ANY subtitles on the new DVDs. Not my fault, and to be frank, the sales outside Sweden will be minimal. Let’s just guess that a new “Återtåget 04” DVD will sell 300,000 copies in Sweden. The number of fans outside Sweden buying it will be much less than 500. Do you see the point?
patolucas said on April 10, 2004 03:58:
mmmmmmm....subtitles in english?Sounds funny!!But Gyllene Tider is a swedish band,so they won’t add subtitles in english to the new release of Återtàget dvd.
I think Tevenso is right!!
Ferdan said on April 10, 2004 04:45:
But tev, other swedish artist, way less famous than GT, put english subtitles even when they release swedish DVDs.(Do you think they´ll sell more than GT?)
Many Argentinian bands put english subtitles, even when they release DVDs in spanish with no international projection or intentions.
Many italian bands do the same, they don´t care that they won´t sale outside. It´s a “professional” touch, just a detail... and a good standard to follow.
And I sense that you like the fact that it won´t feature subtitles.
ally77 said on April 10, 2004 06:38:
There is a very simple answer to all this.... you have two options...
1) Don’t buy it...
2) LEARN SWEDISH!!
It’s not that hard - she says... **grinning**...
Jud (moderator) said on April 10, 2004 07:08:
do you really really think that GT sells THAT MUCH outside Sweden? What % of the Mazarin sales you think went abroad, honestly? And what % of the GT concert tickets were sold abroad?
Ferdan said on April 10, 2004 07:31:
If sale numbers is the reason, why “Tomas Ledin” DVD had many subtitles in many languages?
Jud (moderator) said on April 10, 2004 08:04:
Ask him why “Just då!” has subtitles ;)
Tomas has many fans abroad, he toured with ABBA in the States and he has albums in English released abroad too, so it makes kind of sense, I am not sure but I think he is bigger in the other Scandinavian countries anyway ;)
Besides Tomas has his own Anderson Records :P
Ferdan said on April 10, 2004 10:28:
so, he’s not in EMI??
fair enough, I need no more explanations ;)
See, sale numbers isn´t the problem ;)
And this made me wonder about how many swedish records have Per, Marie and GT sold abroad?
and impossible to get an answer :/
roxlad said on April 10, 2004 11:22:
Well if you think that an online music store like CDON has got an English site there must be a reason. What I mean is that if I want to buy an internation release I buy it in my own country or I get from a local internet CD dealer. There’s no reason for me to buy a Roxette cd from CDON is there? So if they have an international site is because they sell a lot of Scandinavian music abroad... I think. I know it might be little sales but if you sum every CD that goes out to all European countries, to Australia, New Zealand, South America, USA etc.. it can’t be that little.
roxlad said on April 10, 2004 11:23:
...by the way... to learn Swedish is another great option, I am willing to do it but I guess not everybody is the same.
Jud (moderator) said on April 10, 2004 16:33:
look at it from another point of view.. how many artists (american, british) that sing (of course) in English, release DVDs with subtitles in Spanish, German, Xinese or even Swedish? ;)
PS: CDON only delivers to Europe. They started selling in Scandinavia and in the Netherlands, so why shouldn’t they expand to the rest of Europe?
annorlunda said on April 10, 2004 17:16:
besides that you don’t get translations of the CD-booklets either, do you??
*edit* I mean with the CD you buy...
roxlad said on April 10, 2004 17:54:
...so you mean I won’t be able to let my mum see the Återtåget video? She doesn’t speak Swedish but she likes Gilen Taider (as she pronounces it) :-)
Jud (moderator) said on April 10, 2004 18:11:
well my mum speaks no Swedish either but she listens to Eva, Marie and she even sings along with her-own-swedish-accent ;)
annorlunda said on April 10, 2004 18:30:
no that’s not what I mean... sure it had been cool with english subtitles for all who do not understand Swedish. but I don’t think it’s very probably that it’s gonna happen... even if CDON sells to Europe it doesn’t mean that everything sold is gonna be translated... why should they? people buy nevertheless... you do not get the songs translated, why should they feel forced translating dvds... don’t get me wrong, I do want subtitles so that everyone understands, I just don’t think there will be....
LittleGirl78 said on April 10, 2004 20:34:
Yes, I also don´t think that there will be subtitles, but what is the reasson to make it on DVD if I can watch the VHS, too? OK. It´s easier to see only parts from the DVD, on VHS is much rewind, but I think you can do more features on DVD. :-
But of course, GT wont do that.
Jud (moderator) said on April 10, 2004 20:51:
what could be next? GT and Marie’s albums sung in English too? ;) :P
roxlad said on April 10, 2004 21:05:
@Judith.... oh I hope not! Music in another thing.... to give you an example I like many Kent’s songs in Swedish but in English they are alright... not the best. Translations don’t attract me... like if we had Roxette in Swedish it wouldn’t be the same...
LittleGirl78 said on April 10, 2004 21:30:
I think Songs and Docus are another things. ;)
GT should stay to sing in swedish of course, Marie I like in swedish, too, what I hear she is to make a album in english now, but I don´t know I like her swedish music. But to make subtitles on a Docu is not the same, subtitles on a Docu isn´t wrong, it was wrong to make subtitles on the Songs from Live ISM DVD LOL. :P
I find the compare Songs in english or subtitles on Docus a bit strange. :P
ditroia said on April 11, 2004 03:19:
Whether they do it or not the fact of the matter is it cost Jack Sh*t to add a Subtitle Stream to a DVD.
The biggest Expense is paying a translator. [Hell a fan would do it for free]
Then you add it to the DVD as part of the production stage and Whala!
The Biggest Issue Stopping it Is
A. probably Will be mastered by some crappy Amerturish Budget DVD Company.
B. EMI/GT/Managment Just Don’t Give a Sh*t.
I Hardly Ever post negative comments on these forums, becasue I love Roxette/GT and their Music, but when it comes to the Way EMI Runs them, and the quality of the DVD’s I do get pissed.
Regardless of how many fans are out there EMI or whoever produces the DVD Don’t Give a Fats Rats Arse. Hell they don’t Even Include SWEDISH Subtitles for the Hard of Hearing.
I will be keeping my VHS Copy
The DVD will most likely be a Direct from Video Un-Remastered Dolby Digital 2.0 192k 1:37:1 Letterboxed DVD, with scarce Extras.
Happy Easter
Dave
annorlunda said on April 11, 2004 09:40:
@dave: right...
@ LittleGirl78: I did not compare singing in English with having subtitles... ;-)
what I meant was that you do not find a translation into English in the booklet or whereever... comparing the singing in English would mean that they would speak English in the docu...
I have a CD at home by a band singing in German AND English - they are not on EMI... In this CDs booklet they have translated the english songs into German and the german songs into English... Translations happen....
But I still don’t think that there will be any on the Återtåget-dvd... Cool if it would, but there won’t...
Jud (moderator) said on April 11, 2004 11:54:
do you really expect a company that can’t even put a mistake-free cover and menY together.. to add subtitles? ;)
eva_roxer said on April 12, 2004 20:42:
I agree the idea of Återtaget video with english subtitles, so I leave my message here.
As DVD technology has lots of features (thanks to the increase of space) this possibility is not something so “unreachable”.
annorlunda said on April 12, 2004 20:45:
no, sure it’s very possible - tecnically, but not with the people responsible here maybe... =)
tevensso (moderator) said on April 18, 2004 14:33:
@Ferdan: I neither like nor dislike the fact that the DVD won’t probably feature any subtitles. I’m just saying it’s silly of people demanding a thing that’s not going to happen. Like Judith said - how many Spanish music DVDs feature Swedish subtitles for the 3 Swedish fans that happen to like that band?
felicity-brown said on April 18, 2004 16:29:
I don’t believe it SHOULD have subtitles as is, at the end of the day, a Swedish release - aimed at the Swedish public, but for it to have would be a bonus :)
Ferdan said on April 18, 2004 21:44:
“how many Spanish music DVDs feature Swedish subtitles for the 3 Swedish fans that happen to like that band?”
Swedish is not an international language, english is...
and many Spanish DVDs feature english subtitles, for 3 fans that happen to like those bands outside spanish speaking countries ;)
It´s not the fact about the amount of fans, it´s just a professional thing... if it wasn´t EMI, I bet the DVD would feature subtitles (Even swedish ones would help, it´s very common to get subtitles in the same language that´s being spoken... they´re even transmitted thru the video signal for special TVs that receive Closed captions).
Ferdan said on April 19, 2004 01:30:
“but for it to have would be a bonus :)”
and that´s what I´m petitioning, a bonus :)
LittleGirl78 said on April 20, 2004 07:51:
@Ferdan: well spoken *thumpup*
This is excactly the point. Nobody said they should make a german subtitle or a spanish subtitle or a france subtitle or...... ;) this would almost be the same if you want a swedish subtitle on a spanish DVD. ;D
This would be only a good bonus with english subtitle because english is the world language and who don´t understand english have bad luck. I also don´t believe that it will be a english subtitle but it isn´t impossible. ;)
annorlunda said on April 20, 2004 18:11:
I guess nobody ment that he/she doesn’t WANT to have subtitles... everybody here surely thinks it would be nice (for themselves or the others)
sure it’s not impossible, but I don’t think it’s probable... =D
llounge said on April 9, 2004 15:15:
I also want the DVD with English subtitles. So many Fans of GT don‘t speak Swedish.
