New GT best of = bad idea
James_Earp said on March 2, 2004 18:55:
I think that to reales a new GT best of album is a bad idea. I mean all the (+-) 250 000 who bought “Halmstads pärlor with the extra EP already have all the songs wich will be in the new best of.
Why can’t they realse just a new album ore maybe just a new EP.
If they realeses a new best of I thinkt that it will not sell so much beacuse so many people already has all the songs.
And if they wants to fill the whole “Nya Ullevi” they need something new and fresh that can be heard on the radio.

It’s not a bad idea. It is a pathetic idea.
We should open a site “No more greatest hits/compilations albums related to Roxette/Gyllene Tider/Per Gessle/MF”....
I’m sick of those re-re-re-remastered albums...
What’s next? A new re-release of Per Gessle’s solo albums?

Give it up! A: none of you are Swedes, so you don’t really comprehend the Gyllene Tider phenomenon. B: If you don’t want the album - don’t buy it! I really don’t want to sound harsh or anything, but it’s soooo tedious reading all this “I don’t want another GT compilation!!!”. Please, grieve in silence.

I think indeed, as mentioned before, that these re-releases are for the new fans, who don’t have any GT.
The new songs are on a new album, what more could we want.
If it [the new songs] would have been placed on the re-release it would have been worse, because then you would have to buy a CD with a lot of tracks you already have, just for those new songs.

He He Hej
@ Tevensson - Sorry man, but I also think that ANOTHER compilation album is a pure commercial move and I´m tired of it. I´m not swedish but I don´t have to be to understand when a record company just wants to make more money. There are other “phenomena” everywhere in the world and these other big bands don´t release 3-4 greatest hits albuns. EMI doesn´t even change the name of the greatest hits albuns anymore... “Samtliga Hits” again ? Pathetic.
Is there any other artist in the world that released more greatest hits albuns than Per / MF / Roxette / GT ?
Don´t get me wrong, I LOVE GT, maybe more than I love Roxette, but another compilation is too much for me !
All the best

There’s nothing bad about it because there’s no new songs in it... so there’s nothing making you need to buy it if you already have all the other songs. Plus it’s remastered ;)
Sascha said on March 3, 2004 09:11:
In my opinion they could release another ’Greatest Hits’ every second year, nice treat for the collectors! ;-) What’s the problem? The biz has to generate money for new, more risky projects. That’s the way it has always been.
per_mson said on March 3, 2004 09:44:
@Sascha: I’m a collector, but with those “new” albums from GT I for the first time said that I won’t buy them. They are simply too uninteresting. When they get cheap one day I will perhaps... but not now.
@Tev: I’m swedish and therefore hope I understand “the Gyllene Tider phenomenon” as you call it. But I really wonder how many new GT fans there are since the last GH album in 1995 who wants to buy this album... not many I think.
So no matter how tedious this might be I must say I think it is pathetic as well to release those albums.

per_mson: Between 89 and 95 about 500 000 became fans. if you look at it your way.
per_mson said on March 3, 2004 13:35:
pelu: Well, and why do you think they sold 500.000?? Maybe because they had a concert in Halmstad in 95 and later the tour in 96 which made this hysteria. I wouldn’t be surprised if people goes a bit mad this year as well, but in the same time I honestly don’t think that there are so many left that would buy this album. They who wanted all the good songs on one album already have “Halmstads pärlor” on their shelf.
Rich-UK said on March 3, 2004 17:24:
Well, we’ll see the proof by whether the album gets to #1 in the album charts, so we’ll find out soon whether it was a smart move for EMI to release it: the facts will speak louder than the opinions!
pelu said on March 3, 2004 18:37:
per_msno: Yea, GT played once in 95, Per played 15 times last year, And I think that the ones who attended those conserts will return this summer. And many many more. There wasn´t any promotion at all for Mazarin Tour, with a little promotion and a strong radio-single this tour will be bigger than the one 96.
everyone who´s complaining: But it will just replace an old Greatest Hits-album. What´s the problem with that? Isn´t it time to release a “birthday” album now? think about it how many bands are more popular than ever 25 years after they started. It would be more strange not to release this cd.

I kind of like that they haven’t include 1 or 2 new songs in it. That is wonderful, it gives you the chance to avoid it, not like previous compilation releases which were oriented to drain our pockets to the maximum.
ally77 said on March 3, 2004 20:50:
@ Thomas! yeah good point....
BTW.. it’s on the CDON website for those wanting it along with the remastered albums! ;)
arnie said on March 3, 2004 22:13:
The albums were already remastered in 1989. I still don’t get the difference between Gyllene Tider CD and Jubileum (2000). They sound the same to me.
James_Earp said on March 11, 2004 10:37:
well I am from sweden (tevenson) , and i think that i am going to buy the new album, all ans should. but I do not think that any “not fans” will do it beacuse they probably alreadu has “Halmstad pärlor” so I think that a new GT best of is bad comericial.
animalkingdom said on March 11, 2004 15:32:
It does sound very boring and un-imaginative to release a compilation after another but this time I don’t mind... I have no GT CD’s at all so here’s a good point to jump in! :P
pelu said on March 2, 2004 19:04:
They are ALSO gonna release a new album/ep
