Which roxette song should be covered? (by any band for that matter)
I’m just curious about your opinion
Markuz said on February 13, 2004 03:32:
Any song. It depends on the band in question and their taste.
Now, “what song should Roxette cover” would be a far more interesting question.
I think that mega-hit singles and “classic” songs shold never be covered. Why? Because there’s so little you can add to that song, and the chances you do a bad job are huge and you can piss millions of fans off. People will identify the original as the real thing and your band as a bunch of artist wannabes. And if you cover a very successful song, your version will always be compared with the original one.
Here’s my list for a Roxette cover album:
-Secret World (Peter Gabriel)
-We two are one (Eurythmics)
-Wound in my heart (Propaganda)
-Pray for Spanish Eyes (Madonna)
-Jealous (Sinead O’Connor)
-Oh Marie (Sheryl Crow)
-Just Good Friends (Michael Jackson)
-I Never Loved A Man [The Way I Loved You] (Aretha Franklin)
-Drip drip drip (Chumbawamba)
-Opposites attract (Paula Abdul)
-Shiny happy people (REM)
-Heart of gold (Neil Young)
-So you wanna be a rock&roll star (The Byrds)

@ Harriej > ain’t that the whole purpose of covering stuff? pissing fans off? :-)
harriej said on February 17, 2004 20:33:
Looking at the lack of quality of the most covers, it seems to be the main reason indeed.

Seeing such “interesting” choices I´ve come up with a few suggestions:
Joyride - Bauhaus
Hotblooded - Belle & Sebastian
IMHBL - Vanilla Ice
Love is All - X-Mal Deutschland (then it could be a duet with Celine Dion...)
She Doesn´t Live here Anymore - Tony Braxton
Milk and Toast and Honey - Pizzicato Five
The Big L. - Radiohead
Sound nice, huh?

I just remembered a few songs I’d like Rox to cover:
Never (Heart)
Human (Human League)
High enough (Damn Yankees)
Black Velvet (Alannah Miles)
Sleeping satellite (Tasmin Archer)
Save your love (Bad Boys Blue)
Why (Annie Lennox)
When I looked at him (Exposé)
If I could turn back time (Cher)
You’ll never stop me from loving you (Sonia)
I would like to hear this:
Stars (Pet Shop Boys feat. Kylie Minogue)
The Look (Robbie Williams)
Vulnerable (Enrique Iglesias)
I love the sound of crashing guitars (Linkin Park)
I’ll be alright (Westlife)
Entering your heart (Madonna)
Stupid (Christina vs Britney)
Paint (Safri Duo feat. Ricky Martin & Cher)
Crash! Boom! Bang! (Evanescence)
