Damn Earthquake!!

I believe natural disasters are a sign telling us how gifted we are to be alive each and every minutes and use our time to the fullest.

I am really sorry. I have nothing to say. I was crying the whole last days everytime I watched TV! I could do nothing more. I think everybody has seen what that earthquake did to BAM in Iran! It has 80.000 people and now 25.000 is dead, 20.000 injured.... Many people are still lost!

It realy hurts. I could not stop thinking about BAM PALACE also. It was built 2000 years ago. It was a complete old city. Now its only dust!

Oh, is there someone out there to understand me :((((((

[EDIT] Take a look!!

It’s right in the border of one, a really ugly place :(

Yes I see. Although everybody knows but tehy still built the houses in towns by DUST!!!! It was in the middle of the desert!!

Aaso!!!!!

Salam!!

I was looking forward to find you online. Infact I came here to start a new threat and to ask if your family and friends are ok. I don’t know if you have any relative/friend in Baam but still I wanted to know if everything was okay on your family’s side.

This is TOO SAD. This ISSSS to sad. We are having lunch in office and watching the Television when they aired the video of bam destruction. We were all speechless. TOO SAD!

Aaso!!! sorry to hear about what happen!!! I DO hope that you and your family are okay!!!

Yes this is very sad and tragic. I remember the 1990 earthquake in Iran although Tehran wasn’t shaken much. Guess what though Aaso:
If an earthquake with this magnitude ever hits Tehran, an estimated minimum of 1 million people will be killed. This was discussed yesterday and the fact is that the rules and science of civil engineering and construction are totally ignored in IRan. This causes an increase in death toll when it comes to earthquake. Very sad!

Yeah it’s awful when stuff like this happen... really sad to read news... :(

a friend of a friend was in Bam as a tourist during the earthquake. he was burried in a destroyed hotel for three hours. he was injuried, but not in a life threatening way. he’s been very lucky and I feel very sorry for everybody who wasn’t as lucky as him.

very sad :( and I thought of all my Iranian girls.

we had the same size quake hit out here but only
lost 2 lives

can’t imagine being trapped in a collapsed building

I get a little edgy if my sweater is on too tight I am so claustrophopic

Yes, this was horrible :( I’m really sorry.
About what sweet_stalker said, preparation of a society has to do a lot also with the number of casualties. This was such an old city... even if no one had died just to lose such an old city (imagine if in Europe the Colisseum in Roma would go down :o) would be very tragic. But just so many people died, it’s so unfair :(
It usually happens here with other kind of events, the floodings. In Southern Europe floodings cause around 10 or less casualties each time, but the very same events can cause hundreds and even thousands in northern Africa :s

Santi: You are totally right. Just a reminder: Bam was old yes true. Tehran is not. Over the past decade, the buildings that are built in Tehran do not follow the construcional safety code or whatever it’s called. As I mentioned earlier, I was watching a program on this a few days ago and some experts, some from Tehran University and some from UCLA and etc., were discussing this fact. They mentioned that if this Bam earthquake had hit Tehran, more than a million would have died. So it’s not just being old or new.

Thank you so much!!
