I’ll miss the winter,
a world of fragile things,
look for me in the white forest
hiding in a hollow tree (your’ll find me)...

Don’t say I am not in touch
with this rampant chaos, your reality,
I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge,
the nightmare I build my own world to escape...
Please do excuse me if I made any mistakes in the lyrics but if I think that kinda stuff is VERY DEEP and u need to see what she is trying to say here. The music is amazing and I find Evanescence MUCH MUCH better than Linkin Park (they are good though). Evanescence is more LIVE oriented band as well while LP does a LOT of studio and synthesized stuff.. NOT GOOD!
But u have your own opinion so oh well.. I like them and that matters most.

And I don’t hate them.
They have a few nice songs.
And I like the female vocals MUCH better than many of those Rock Male Vocals, many of which just sound like that Horrible guy from Creed and all those other bands like Nickleback or Staind. Evanescence is Better than all of those.

Storm: we are talking about Evanescence here ;)
Yes, each passing day confirms Ben’s departure from the band. Nobody has heard anything from any official source so lets hope I am wrong and Amy is saying all that just cause she is angry. He is a talented dude and his departure would probably CHANGE the sound of Evanescence. He plays a major role alongwith Amy in the band.

I was there when they were recording my inmortal video in Barcelona....the “square” where the children play football and she walks round the fountain is called “Sant Feli Neri” and is located in the barcelona gothic quarter. It’s a very romantic place. In this place a lot of men were killed during the spanish civil war. You can see the marks of the bullets in the church front. This place has an special meaning for this reason. Actually I was there yesterday listening to “my inmortal” song. At night it has a very romantic atmosphere.

Yes, I was there when they were shooting the video. And I can recognize all the places in the video. In fact all the locations are in the Barcelona gothic quarter except the place where she lies by a roof and you can see the barcelona “sky line” (very poor, I know). This view is taken from the Montjuïc mountain, just where the olympic stadium is placed. In another scene , when she sits by a phone post, the ancient roman wall of Barcelona is located just behind her but you can’t see it as the video is in b/w. I love this video. Can’t get tired of watching it.

There’s been rumors that him and Amy Lee were dating and that they broke up and he couldn’t handle it...either way what he DID SUCKS, he walked away from a show of thousands of fans claiming he couldn’t do it anymore.... the Limp Bizkit cover DOES suck the original is FAR better and personally i think the songs “You”, “Lies”,
“October” and “Anywhere” are Evanescence’s best songs.....also there is absolutely NO comparison between Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Evanescence. They aren’t even the same music genre......so get it right. If anything Limp Bizkit is trying to be LINKIN PARK.....anywhoo just thought i’d voice my opinion....Zee...I love Evanescence but I am deeply upset that they went mainstream with the Fallen cd...if you can find it (which i doubt the only place you can really get it is Ebay for an arm and a leg) is Origins....I think that Origins is a far better album than Fallen....not to say that Fallen isn’t good but i personally liked Origins. ALSO the ORIGINAL Bring Me to Life, Tourniquet and Imaginary are far better....longer with more guitars and stuff like that.

OK, first off, Limp Bizkit is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE band, not just my opinion, but they were put together by the record company to sell to dumb lowest-common denominator rock fans with no sense of taste or what quality music is. That, and the fact that Fred is a homophobic, stupid, cretin of a person. They deserve each other really, Fred and that pathetic excuse of a band.
Oh and AASO, their pathetic cover of “Behind Blue Eyes”?? Originally by THE WHO from their masterpiece 1971 album “Who’s Next”. Do yourself a BIG favour and buy this album, and then you will REALLY know what quality rock and roll is. Thank you.
Back to the topic at hand, EVANESCENCE, they are decent, not great, not terrible. Amy seems to be able to sing one way, in her pseudo-operatic style, and no, there ARE better female singers out there, many that just never got popular. It’s interesting how her vocals are a counterpoint to the dark, metallic music, but it just comes off as gimmicky, not classic. However, they have a sense of melody, which is good. Ben splitting from the band, him being a core co-founder and all, and the player of those riffs, should be interesting on what their next record sounds like. I like bands that evolve, not shoot out, BANG, right outta the starting gate; their early success and Ben splitting doesn’t bode well for a long-term future, but we shall see...and yes, I have heard the album, not much variety, and only 2 moods, the metallic assault and the pseudo-classical ballads, yet the sense of melody IS positive, I just wish Amy was the Tori type, playing all those piano parts on the record, NOPE...done by a session guy...big blow to her, and the band’s credibility...
ROXIEBABY16 said on January 15, 2004 22:39:
@power....she plays the piano live, i mean who has time to do all the vocals AND play the piano anymore? especially in the recording studios...they rush you like no other to get your damned albums out.....thats why most of the music out today sucks balls (excuse my expression) and is either a crappy re-make or just plain stupid..kinda like that stupid milkshake song that i hear every day of my life........and i agree Limp Bizkit sucks the big time.

Actually Roxie, Kelis is great, I’ve been into her since her first hit “Caught Out There”, the one that goes “I hate you so much right now, I hate you so much right now, AAAARGGGHHH!!”, LOL!! She works with Andre 3000 from OutKast and Pharrell from the Neptunes and has a huge Prince influence. Don’t say a song is bad because radio is killing it, please. I hate most radio stations, and I prefer to listen to my CDs and internet radio, because I hate when radio kills artists and songs I love, and I don’t want to be sick of stuff I like. PLUS, Kelis IS musically talented, she has substance, and she is critically acclaimed across the board, 4 stars in all the music magazines. THAT’s what I go by, critical acclaim, in checking out new artists, NOT the radio or mass audience appeal, like for HORRIBLE bands such as Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, who are generally trashed by critics. Why?? Cuz I am a music critic, musically-informed, open-minded, with eclectic tastes and strong musical hunches. I can smell a horrible band from a mile away, and I can smell a great, interesting band as well. Most mainstream stuff is critically trashed, BUT once in a while, an artist appeals to the public and critics alike, such as Outkast, Kelis, Alicia Keys, and even the Darkness and Jet.
As for Evanescence, I disagree, they weren’t big at the time of recording the album, there was no rush. I have a feeling the label didn’t trust Amy’s piano-playing ability so they hired a session guy. BUT, if Amy and the band had integrity and stuck to their guns, Amy’s playing woulda been on the record, IF she was really as talented as you say she is, I doubt it. Amy and Evanescence are NOT the best band out right now, not even close, NOR do they deserve all this success, IMO. They are OK, not great, not terrible, and with Ben gone, I say they will be gone in 5 years, and you will forget about them when the new “hot trendy band” comes along.
Am I right or what??
ROXIEBABY16 said on January 23, 2004 22:35:
Thats the problem with people who think they are good music critics hon, simply put they go for the “trendy trash” that the industry is put out there. I like Evanescence BEFORE they became trendy and happen to think their EARLIER stuff is far more and eons better than the stuff they’ve put out now. I don’t disagree with you on the point of Ben Moody and i have no opinion of him whatsoever except that he let a lot of fans down and thats just flat out bulls**t for ANY music artist to do. I never said Evanescence is the greatest band out there and I happen to think Kelis is gonna end up just like Avril. The only reason people are listening to her is because she’s controversial just like Avril “was” when she first came onto the scene. It’s all crap. I am not basing it on radio play at all because really...i don’t listen to the radio because the music they play over here these days flat out sucks unless you like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. I am glad you have so much pride in yourself as a music critic but i happen to think that just because a band looks good on paper doesn’t necessarily mean they’re any good. It’s all going to tastes, and if people would stop listening to all the trendy trash thats out there *including the milkshake whatever the hell its called crap* then maybe the music industry would push for better artists instead of spoon feeding those who’re going for the trends and force feeding the rest of us. Simply put, most of the best bands you will EVER hear are underground not the poppy, rap, and bubblegum crap of today. Maybe i’m old school and i think all the heavy metal and hair bands and hard rock is what we really need to bring back, because all the stuff playing today makes me wanna gag and vomit. But like i said its all a matter of opinion and i respect yours, but it doesn’t mean your gonna change mine to mirror yours, and nor are you EVER going to convince me that you are a good music critic simply because my taste differs from yours. *Shrugs* I am NOT trying to change your opinion, like i said i respect yours and i expect you to respect mine tis all...*grinz* ~~*Do what ye will with harm to none*~~

powerpoplarry said on January 24, 2004 08:57:
Hey “Babie” (should I call you that, or your real name?? Your call...), I totally understand what you are saying. Let me respond to your post in order. First off, there is no good critic or bad critic, we’re all writers, and taste is subjective and unique from person to person. It’s just most, if not all, critics, are all on the same page, tastewise, and we prefer to go towards underground bands, those with some sort of credibility and uniqueness and pop tunefulness and intelligence, leaning towards artistry. I know this, commercial sales and musical artistry/integrity don’t go together well. That’s why many of these critically-acclaimed bands rarely sell and have hits on the radio, as well as many of those acts are always trashed by critics. We cal smell commercial crap bands from a mile away, as I said in my last post. Actually, what becomes “trendy trash” is the stuff that critics praise beforehand. That, or it’s stuff heavily promoted by the record labels.
Next up, you knew about Evanescence with their first album “Origins”?? Are you from Arkansas?? See, I never even heard of them until “Bring Me To Life” was a hit!! They were never written about in the magazines or anything, that’s why I was a latecomer, as so are the critics. That CD was underexposed, I think. As for it being better, that’s what usually happens with rawer, self-released, self-produced records, before they work with a bigger budget. Smaller records have a sense of urgency and spontaneous quality, as if they have everything to prove. I agree. However, with Ben gone and that Cold guy in his place, their days are numbered, unless Amy evolves as an artist/songwriter/musician on future records and on the live stage.
About Kelis, she’s been a critic’s darling for the past 6 years or so, and her hit album “Tasty” is album number three (the first 2 were on Virgin, the second not having a US release), and I saw her live touring behind the debut album, she kicked ass live!! She will be around for a while, plus she is engaged to Nas. Because she has a huge hit doesn’t make her crap, and she’s working with creative people, unlike Avril, who is a fake and is utterly commercial, not artistic. Avril is not unlike that plastic Britney in that sense, a creation, not a naturally-developed artist. Kelis is an artist, not plastic or contrived.
Me neither, I won’t listen to radio, it’s all homogenized, with playlists being too small and not at all adventurous. NYC is the worst market, yet they have a coupla cool public stations with freeform playlists.
Thank you for your comments, but I’m not bragging about me being a critic, I just have pride in my taste and hunches with new bands/artists. I do agree that not all bands that look good on paper aren’t actually good. I just use the buzz and hype and critical acclaim/derision as a yardstick in which bands to check out. I don’t necessarily LIKE them all, it’s my taste, but I check em all out with an open mind.
About trendy trash, there are 2 kinds, one, the kind pushed down our throats by radio, MTV, TRL, and the record companies, as their “latest find”. The other is the band that is critically-acclaimed acrosss the board but is deemed too quirky for radio and mainstream consumption. I check out the latter, NEVER the former, unless I like what I hear. I’d rather hear a new CD by an unknown act, without any preconceived notions, hits getting overkill, etc. It’s fresher that way, and I prefer to get into new bands BEFORE the public does, it’s much more thrilling and cooler that way, not spoiled and full of surprises. I listen to Kelis because of the critical acclaim + artistry, NOT cuz she has 2 hits, know what I mean?? So she has a hit in “Milkshake” and “Caught Out There”, what else does she have?? Know my point??
I do agree that the music industry needs to change its tactics if they don’t want to go under...like, visit some record stores, do some research, see what people like and are buying, listen to these people and their ideas. They don’t...
I agree again, the best bands are underground and NOT commercial, however, don’t rule out poppy bands, cuz the best bands ARE poppy, just not in a COMMERCIAL way, but in a pure and even quirky way, still tuneful though. See, pop (namely powerpop, hence my name, LOL) is about melody, hooks, catchiness, intelligence, + tunefulness, NOT about popularity, selling records, or being plastic and dumb. The best pop is underground because it’s not commercial. Once in a RARE while, a true blue, critically-acclaimed. smart powerpop band breaks through and has a hit. This/last year, it was critical darlings Fountains Of Wayne and “Stacy’s Mom”. Now, that song is pure powerpop joy, and NOT commercial, so I am amazed it became a hit cuz it was too good and pure and smart for commercial radio play!! I just wish their live performances were as good as their records, cuz they are boring as shit live, no energy!! But know what I mean about pop?? It’s not a dirty word if it’s done right. Oh, and the bubblegummier the pop, the better, just not in a commercial way. See indie, underground girlpowerpop band Dressy Bessy for proof, or even Le Tigre.
Oh, I like old school metal and hard rock too, but it’s gotta be melodic enough for me to like it, or at least have punky aggression. Whattya think of The Darkness or Jet?? They seem up your alley.
But yes, I respect your opinion, as you respect mine, but I respect more those opinions that are somewhat informed, that’s all. You are, but you can open up your mind more, that’s all... ;-)

I was about to start a new thread when I remembered I had read the word Evanescence somewhere. So here’s what I’d typed for the new thread:
__________________________________________
Flipping through the channels as I was bored not being able to find anything on 300 channels, I heard an amazing voice, very angel-like. Listened for a few seconds and the heart started pounding. Didn’t even know who was singing the song. All I knew was that once again, I was crying to a song. Same thing had happened when I heard White Flag for the first time and on. Same thing happened when I heard hummmm what was it Here Without You for the first time and on. So yeah in the recent years, this is the 3rd new song that has brought me down on my knees. I was desparately waiting for the end of the song to know who the singer was, but nothing showed up.
Saturday night I was driving to my friend’s house from the hair salon with my other friend. I was telling her about this song I had seen on tv and hadn’t heard of eversince. We decided to listen to the radio. Thought someone might play it for us. Oh my God... Unbelievable! There it was: the song that had shook my heart. Tears were once again rolling down my cheeks. My friend was saddened as her boyfriend for 6 years has moved to another city and it’s the first time they are not together. We were both quiet for a while. Again, no name of the band!!!
Today, I was in the bathroom cleaning the drawers. My roommate had the radio on. There it was: my song!!! I asked my roommate who the singer was and she told me it was Evanescence. I ran to the computer looking for Evanescence songs and there it was: My Immortal. Wow. The song was making me cry for the 3rd time. It’s funny how they played White Flag right after and even Here Without You right after the commercial! Looking back, I feel like it was all a dream!
I downloaded the song and have been listening to it for the past hour. Great song. I am not really for the new bands you know. I didn’t even know who Evanescence were before this song. I still don’t know. I just know a great song and very happy to have found it.
A great song. The butterflies start flying inside, the heart stops beating, the eyes get wet, the hands get numb. Feel like a 21-year old carrying so much pain from a broken heart all over again. Reminds me that these wounds won’t seem to heal. Everytime a song makes me cry, that 21-year old girl reaches out to me screaming she is still not over it all. I hate that 21-year old girl. I hate that sadness that still haunts her every once in a while. Everytime my life looks perfect, there comes a song making me believe no matter how much I try to make myself look happy, I am still a sad, scared little girl. I hate that. But I love this song. Although I’ve only listened to it for an hour, it means a lot to me. There’s just too much that time cannot erase.

Larry: Awesome comments again especially on Behind Blue Eyes. Well you can really tell what music background people come from from their comments eh?! So many people are doing covers these days and cherished by others that pisses me off. I hate seeing bands doing Bee Gees or The Who or other old rockers’ stuff, ruining the songs and yet be praised for being original!!!
