"Why on Earth didn´t they do this?"

I was thinking... “Have a nice day” was a good album, although far from a typical Roxette record. Them “Room Service” came, it seemed to me that Per, Marie, both, or the record company, wanted to recover the classical image from the duo, but they failed in my opinion because I think the album was very dull, with a few good songs. Them, suddenly, when all my hopes were almost finished, came “The Pop Hits” and “The Balad Hits”; yes, old songs, but, hey, they have “A thing about you”, “Breathe”, The Weight Of The World”, “It Hurts”, “Every Day” (let´s forget “See Me”), “Opportunity Nox”, “Little Miss Sorrow” (Wow!), “Better on her own” and “Bla bla bla bla bla (You broke my hearth)”. And I thought “¿Why on earth didn´t they release all those songs in a new album?”, because, in my opinion, they are better than a lot of the HAND and RS songs. What do you think about it? Oh, and sorry about my English.

well i think we can al agree there are alot of songs they keep away from albums that shoudl have been on them. Hand was mismanaged on emi’s behalf, a better singles line up could have put hands sales higher than cbb. As for room service....i agree that in many ways its disappointing...some of the writing is uninspired, but you have to wonder how many times per can write amazing songs for roxette without getting bored? I think if anything the songs on the pop and ballad compilations prove that they should have used ronni Lahti as prodoucer on RS...maybe even a bit more michale ilbert just to keept that huingry energetic sound hand had. Breathe is by far the best balla th’ve put out since wicf..and alas it will never be a single

I know loads of you will moan at the idea of this, but I’d quite like to see them put out the new songs as a complete album, once the EP versions of The Hits have all been sold. For good measure, 2 or 3 new songs would need recording, which would be used as new singles, but also because the currently available songs are very short.

With Marie on the mend, I’m sure they could put together this sort of release :-)

Yes, I think like you. In fact, with all the songs from TPH and TBH, and some released as b-sides, I think there could be an album much better than RS... which, to be frank, is very flawed. (although I like some of the songs, of course)

Maybe they thought they could get more album sales, if they spread the new songs over two compilations (TBH/TPH), rather than just producing one new album with all new songs?

I agree with coyboy, Room Service was an uninspired effort, dull and boring. It could have been great with a bit more time and effort in the production (and lets not forget the lyrics). It would have been great if some of the new songs (which Per had been holding back) were on Room Service. And then some of the weaker Room Service tracks could have been b-sides to the singles.

Agree on the HAND comment too, Wish I could fly got alot of airplay over here, but the rest of the HAND singles flopped.

I am still hoping that Breathe will be released as a single, but I know it wont happen.

Maybe it will be a b-side on a future single release!

well, maybe Roxette want to gain the attention to other fans that used to listen to Roxette, so they keep releasing compilation agan and again and again and again... because i know that some people prefer to buy compilation, because they ONLY want to hear the good songs. I know Per said that he won’t care about money at all, but who will ever know what he really think? (Sorry, Per).

Yeah. I didn’t like Room Service. Love the new recordings as well as you do. But I really don’t care for Breathe. It seemed a little boring for me. I like Blah, blah, blah...LMS, ON.

I think it great the way they release the hits compilations. Anyone who isn’t a fan would most likely be buying the compilations for the older songs anyway. This way us fans get more than just 2 new songs, so you can’t complain it’s all old stuff.
Wasn’t it EMI’s idea to release the hits albums anyway??

No it was Roxette’s idea. Per said so in an interview.

I really like HAND and RS. There are great songs there. But I agree with you in one thing, I’m tired of compilations, the new songs could be part of a new album, or maybe the could release a Greatest Hits album but with different versions of the songs. Some artist do that, like Whitney Houston, Ricky Martin, Eros Ramazzotti. Laura Pausini, and it’s a interesting thing for fans.

You are SOOO right! A great album! LMS is the greatest song from recent releases! And ATAY also was very good (I like it althought I don’t prefer the ballads).

All this compilation sucks. 2 or 3 other ’new’ songs, and a whole (great) Roxette album would have been ready conquering Europe...

What I cannot understand ist, that ON was released on single instead of LMS. What I absolutely cannot understand is that LMS was written for HAND but it became dropped...

Hej, Pelle! Let your guitars speak! I love them more than Marie’s (great) voice...

i totally agree with the person who wrote started the thread. one album.

with ’breathe’ as second single hehe :-) but i didnt like LMS :-o am i the only one ??? thought it was boring and per sounds dull on it the ending is bad also.
The trouble is everyone has different tastes when it comes to the music. I like HAND better than Tourism and CBB and LS , i liked about 5 songs on RS the rest just album fillers.
( ps my fave rox song is TCOTH ;-P)

my only gripe about the compilations is as a long standign fan if i didint have the internet i would have been forced to buy both compilations..i only bought the ballads version

BUt you guys are also right that the compilations serve to re-introdouce lost fans to what per and marie are up to.

I was in borders the other day doing my ususal duty of moving the rox albums to the front of the r section and saw a girl with a copy of the ballads compilation. Se only heard them up through joyride and i told here then there is alot on that cd you havent heard and they are all great songs. its the only reason she bought the album

In my opinion nobody here thinks that Per and Marie has been present in the music´s business for more than 17 years, the gold time was doubtlessly, between 89-95, but Roxette has followed, trying and trying in the new, difficult and bad musical market. They have now many albums of great hits, balladts hits, and bla bla bla hits! , but... What happened with Bangles? Wath happened with B-52? and many others? and ... What happens with Roxette? Where is Roxette? perhaps not in numbers one, but in the top list!!!..., maybe ATAY was not a big success, but, did your listen wath kind of melody is doing a group with 17 years of musical race??? i think Roxette is doing the right, they need also the compilations, or do you think they are robots???Think a little bit, Bon jovi every years realese the same melodys with some differents accords...I think they need the compilations...i dont like it! but... Ces´t la vie!
