There was a really unneccessary version of “Eternal Flame” in the German charts last year (or was it the year before??).
Nothing really new, female voices again and the same arrangement, a little bit more up to date.
Not any creativity at all.
But when we talk about coverversions, I saw a really great version of Micheal Jackson’s “Earth Song” on Onyx yesterday. At first I didn’t notice it was this song.

It’s like powerpop, somewhere between the Muffs and PJ Harvey and Courtney Love, and she didn’t mess with the melody at all!! I think you’re just bothered she touched the song, period!! I DO agree about Marilyn Manson’s wrecking of Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love”, as well as Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams”.
Don’t forget Limp Bizkit’s wrecking of George Michaels’ “Faith”, and Orgy’s take on New Order’s “Blue Monday”!!

And American Idol runnerup Justin Guarini, he sorta ruined Texas’/New Radical Gregg Alexander’s “Inner Smile”, partly by calling it “Inner CHILD”!!!

I really love Texas, Sharleen Spiteri has such an AMAZING voice, just melts in your mouth, doesn’t it?? ;-DDD Yep, I tried the Justin CD, just out of curiosity, my friend had a promo so I popped it on my discman, and he reminded me of 80s singer Paul Engeman (from Device and Animotion Mk 2), but I nearly vomited when I heard him ruining “Inner Smile”, let alone changing the title!!!! THAT is sacrilege, really!! Maybe it wasn’t him, maybe it was Clive Davis!!! I saw the credits and I saw Gregg’s name listed, so I’m like COOL (I collect anything he touches), then I saw it was “Inner Child”, and I’m like, NEW GREGG SONG?? Then I saw he had nothing to do with the production, then the thought scared me, maybe it’s “Inner Smile” changed?? Lo and behold it WAS, those yeah yeah yeah’s, and I felt sick to my stomach, but he does a good Sharleen imitation though!! Justin DOES have a strong voice, don’t get me wrong, but the changing of the title, why???? Coulda been a str8 cover, but no, changed, why??????????? Yeah, have some respect for your superiors!!! ;-DDD

Frente’s cover of New Order was OK, compared to Orgy’s cover of Blue Monday!!
And I LOVE t.A.T.u.’s cover of “How Soon Is Now”, better than Love Spit Love’s cover of the same song!! The music is great, and I have no prob with their vocals, you just have to get used to them, that’s all.

I did a mangling of “American Pie” when I was drunk at a bar in the UK and I did “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake at a karaoke bar with my sister and her husband. Back to T.A.T.U, past “All the things she said” they whine a bit much. And I do like them, but the only thing good about their cover was the music. Their singing was like get a gun please! I’ve heard a few covers of “How soon is now” which just should not have been done.

The people at our table cheered loudly but the rest of the crowd appeared to be absolutely stunned. Of course, we were in a “country and western” bar. I highly recommend it - go to a town where you know no one, stop at a bar, make fools of yourselves, drive off and never return!
