Well, I don’t know what to say. People who happen to like a certain pop group find a web page about them and have the audacity to talk about that group with like minded people. Whatever next? It’s not like these rabid fans you seem to refer to are grabbing people in the streets and proclaiming the Swedish Duo’s greatness, is it ;)

Or is it?

I know most of you (almost everybody) won’t like this message, but it’s my opinion, the opinion of someone who was like all of you in the past, and wants no longer go on that way.
Yes, I’ve been a huge rox fan, and what does it mean for you, rox fans, for every fan I’ve met? It means listening to nothing it it isn’t related to rox (gyllene tider, marie and per solo, brainpool, and a hugh etc.); buying EVERYTHING you could (ten versions of the same single, ten versions of the same concert, ten re-releases of the same album...); being in contact only with other fans; in short: limitating your life to a single field. With the time, you end up getting so monothematic and involved in your own world, that you can’t see anything else.
That’s how I was before, and that’s how I see you all now. Of course I still like Roxette: they had never had anything to do with this insanity. But they are not my whole life.
Please, live your lives free from yourselves: listen to someone else, not only each other, cause you are only feeding a vicious circle.
Nothing else to say. Please don’t get too angry.

errr... well, thank you for that. But I have to say that I go to school and work and I play squash three times a week and go out with my friends, read books, watch TV, hang out with my girlfriend, play with my cats and try to learn as much as I can about other people and places. I love Roxette and many, many other artists as well. I think most people on this board are a lot more like me than they are like you (were).

Well, if you think so, then you don’t know too many fans, specially german and spanish. Anyway, I’m glad for you, must be an exception. Congratulations.

WOW.... am I really like that..... NO AND ERMMMM NO!!

Good god, I love Roxette etc.... but they do not rule my life... they may have done when I was 13!!

I go to work

I have friends, who don’t like Roxette, who hate them in fact!!

I go on holiday .. (okay Sweden!... you got me on that!)

I go to the gym 3 times a week!

I go out at weekend’s with friends!

I rent films/DVD/Videos..........

I listen to the radio.... (you know that little thing that gives out music..... which Roxette only ever get played on Radio 2!)

I buy CD’s that are not Roxette... surprising...

Okay I use to buy everything I could get my hands on... and if I see something I like that I have not got I will buy it!, it’s part of being a fan of something...

Football fans... but footie programmes & shirts (if you get my drift!!)

I listen to hundred of bands..... I hang with people that doesn’t like Roxette (my gf likes it tho)
I never ever bought a CD just ’cos it had a different cover.

generalisation is dangerous.....

@agghh - Wow - your description of how you used to be is kind of scary..

Thank you for your concern but I agree with roxtexanet - I think most (probably all) people on this site have broad, diverse lives. They just come to TDR to share a common interest - a love of Roxette music. I know my life is fun and full of non-Roxette activities....

Do i have to be honest??

It’s months ago since i’ve listen to some Rox-song (exept the new ones)
Actually,i buy music like P!nk,Avril Lavigne,Live,Christina Aguilera,The Calling,....
I don’t call myself a Rox-fan anymore,i just “like” them,like i like other bands/singers!!!!

When i was 9 i was inlove with Per,i dreamed about roxette,i even believed they were belgian and they were living some streets away from me,but,i was 9 and that’s some 10 years ago, believe me,i HAVE a life :DD ;) :p

Not at all!!!!!!!

I couldn’t disagree more with you, at least in my case. Roxette has never ruled my life. I listen also to much different music that well, I got to know thanks to the interviews of Per Gessle and Noel Gallagher when they talks about their favourite songs and bands. Also researching Napster and so on.
An that just in music. But my life is a whole lot more than music. Actually I like Roxette because I like Scandinavia, it has always been like that. I was even super-glad when Denmark won the Euro’92 in football :D I don’t know why but Scandinavia has been in my heart even before I heard The Look. So I went as exchange student to Sweden but it didn’t have anything to do with Roxette.
And the people I know... my best friends (except my girlfriend and the people I met here) all think Roxette is such crap that they should be banned :D
Roxette is just one of my favourite bands (it’s not my favourite right now...), and an amazingly nice sound on my ears :) I love it, but I don’t depend on it

Roxette doesn’t rule my life. Of course I like them, and I think Per is the best writing pop music.

But I love other musicians. Robben Ford (blues), Eric Clapton (blues), Toquinho (Bossa Nova), Vinicius de Moraes (Bossa Nova), Jeff Beck (Rock), Tom Waits, Al di Meola and Pat Metheny are among the best musicians I’ve heard.

I slept with Marie some years ago...

Hey, I think its an interesting and gutsy discussion to start - fair enough. I think you’re right, I’m sure there have been many potentially dangerous and unstable people that have probably used this forum before, and I have had the same thoughts as you - like ’you guys are all mental!’ and some people might be. Things like this only become a problem if you start taking them literally. I reckon most people just use it for record collecting or having a laugh.
Your thread has a fair point though, it was worth reading. Take it easy

@aarrgghh :

It seems to me you misjudged most people posting messages here.
You probably thought you were in a Justin Timberland message board...
Don’t worry everyone here looks quite healthy.
No offence.

whats the point of this topic?
edu82@lol

Roxette still influence me in MANY things. But that doesn’t mean I don’t do anything else.. I go to the movie, reading books etc..

How old are you?
I mean it’s a matter of age...Most of the Roxette fans started in ’89 when they were just kids...If you admitted that you used to be a “full time” Roxette fan, than you should be already shaped - in many ways - by Roxette. It happend more or less to all of us here, at least until we reached a certain age...I’m 24 now and I have a lot of things to do. None of my friends (I know a young woman who is also a Roxette fan, we met in the early ’90s, but she’s not a friend of mine) know something about Roxette (I don’t even talk about this with them), I work very hard and I study in the same time, I’m married and I want to be a dad and so on. We’re not obsessed. Of course there are some girls that wouldn’t mind to meet Mr. Gessle in some intimate hyposthases, but c’mon, they are a few and they usually have their strange forums...We are all normal people here...But yet, we must admit that our personalities were - at least in part - shaped by our “Roxettish” past and childhood. Which goes the same for you...Even you consider yourself at this very moment a very cerebral person who wants to learn as much as he/she can...

Hey man, don’t get me wrong!! Yes, Roxette IS my all-time fave band right now, BUT I love a ton of other powerpop bands, like a new fave, Canadian girlband LILLIX, as well as alt-country artists + others like late bass master Jaco Pastorius and NY postpunk noise rock band Sonic Youth!! I am an openminded guy, except for stuff I know I will hate, like generic mall pop punk.

I also have a life, I work, I travel, I have friends here on this board and many outside it, I go to movies, I love rollercoasters, and I go to lots of other music artist websites as well.

You’re just concerned for us, and that’s great, thanks, but I’m OK really!!!

OK, I knew this would happen. So, none of you has felt identified with this. Believe me, I haven’t written it just for fun (it ain’t funny at all). If I think so, it’s because I’ve met a lot of people who are just like this. Will you make me believe they, who are crazy about rox, have no contact with this site? That they haven’t read my message? Of course they have, but they aren’t willing to face what I say, because they know it’s true. Maybe you don’t know who I am, but in the past I’ve met a lot of people here, wheter personally or via penpal. I know what I’m talking about. Alright, not every fan is like this. But most of them.

why do you worry so much about all those fans? ;)

hey, at last you wrote, Judith. I really wanted to know what you wrote, because you used to be one of this I mean.

@ Aaggh:

I think that the people you’re talking about probably believe they don’t have a problem and are in deep denial. So most likely they aren’t going to reply to this particular discussion forum and admit they have 10 copies of the same album (that’s like owning 10 of the exact same sweater) or say that they want to marry Per or Marie. You’re right, it is quite sad.

But to say that *most* fans here are obsessed– I disagree with you there. A lot of the people on this forum seem quite normal, going to work like regular Joes, and are busy living their own lives. I myself spend more time worrying about the bills and living my own life rather than wondering about what Marie’s favourite colour is. Sure, there are a few nutjobs here that I could do without, but to paint us all with the same brush– it’s just wrong.

Agghh,
you make me laugh, you a so so silly. why the hell do you care. if people are happy to do that leave them, they is alot more things you could do with your time lol, and not worry about other peoples choice’s. im totally happy with my roxette world, im sure other people are . who are you to say what people should do, should we all do and listern to what you say and do and follow your views. and a strange post to put on a roxette site , how strange and insecure are you then .
does this effect you in some way ?
maybe you should look at your own fears before you spread you lonleyness on, if you you have no fears why do you care , i do fell its time YOU should look into your world. everyone lives and surounds themselves with things they enjoy to better there love for the good things in life and comfort and im one of them and glad. i would go far as to say im not addict, but i did buy 2 verions of stars single , and the spanish verions of HAND, becouse i wanted to here there songs, but if someone wants more then bloody good for them . go on people enjoy yourselfs
HAVE A NICE DAY LOL

Of course you get people like that with every popular band, tv series etc. because there are a minority of fans that like to think that if they have the biggest collection of multimedia etc. and learn everything there is to know, then that makes them ’the biggest fan.’

But this is definatly a minority... most of us sadly have to enter reality every now and then.

zargo , i totally agree with you. :)

Roxette,Marie,Gyllene tider... what more you need??:-))))))))))

i guess that writing every day in this forum seems to someones very scary, but it’s not so scary isn’t it:-)
I’m very happy and thankful for every min with Roxette music..
i’m very happy and thankful for every meeting with Rox fans,no matter how he or she looks or acts..

that doesn’t mean that i don’t have a life but having a life doesn’t mean that i don’t love Roxette..
Roxetttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
:-))))))))))))))))))))))

lol :-))

it could just be that people get so fed up talking to people who have no idea who roxette are that when they meet someone that does they go over the top, so you get the impression that they are insane when really they are quite normal.

personally i am insane and i just don’t care, its boring being normal.

An insane chemist?? Hmmmm....sfchemist - should we be afraid of you?

I guess an insane chemist is less dangerous than an insane biologist :D ... anyway, who’s sane?

@santi - Yes, an insane biologist would be worse. ooohhh - makes me shudder.

@agghh get a life please im a roxette fan for 18yrs i love all types of music and noboby rules my life except me (well maybe one other person)i do what i want when i want and i will talk to anyboby who wants to talk to me. the fans are good people and if you have had a bad time in the past then im sorry but we are not all the same we do have lives and if it means listening to roxette so what ??it beats a lot of the crap that is on the radio ok no affence intended

I must also admit... I haven’t listened to Roxette for ages! :( *BAD DENNY*!
I’ve listened to the new stuff... sure... once or twice.
I haven’t bought anything lately either.

But then... being an x-files fan too... I haven’t watched an episode since season 9 finished!

I’m having a break... a few months out of nearly 11 years, I’m allowed to. :)

why is everyone so desperate to justify themselves if you are all that confident of your sanity? Especially to a random you do not know

@Derek: you’ve been a fan for 18 years? Since we live in 2003 (at least, I think so), 18 years ago means 1985. And Rox didn’t even exist at that time. Think better what you’re saying.
@on a mission: I agree totally with you.

on a mission , IM MAD thats why LOL just becouse i want to , same reason you posted that
:-P

it could be he became a GT-fan before Rox was formed? :P

@Judith: then he’d better say a GT fan

What’s this discussion all about? There are many people who are sitting their whole free time infront of TV and watching all this talkshow and soap shit. It’s really dumbing people. Others are living for their cars, sports and different hobbies. And I mean really living for it. Almost sleeping in the garage. Prefer training their muscels until they can’t walk right because their legs are so thick. Has everyone ever thought about workaholics? Working 7 days a week, from 5.30 am to 8.00 pm, sometimel longer, only sunday afternoon free, no holiday in the last 10 years or so. I’m surrounded by such people (Wonder why I’m so lazy). There are really worse things than being a Rox Freak.

@agghh yep you are right i should have said “nealy”18yrs because the idea of joining forces was in 85 but didnt get around to it till 86 ok we can make mistakes yer know sorry

@Agghh: you say that you no longer want to go on this way.....well thats fine, but surely its up to the own individual as to what he or she does with... a: their spare time, b:what music they want to listen to, c: what they spend their money on.
Why be so worried about others....just sit back and watch the madness.

@ agghh. yea chill out ok if you are not happy with yourself then change your life i did but like i said we are not all the same (thank god)

Maybe that is the way you lived your life.
But that doesn’t mean that counts for everybody (over here) and it certainly doesn’t count for me.
Yes: I want to know all about Roxette and buy all their stuff and there are indeed a couple of other Rox-fans which I see as friends.
But I also have a life besides Roxette, I have friends who do not like Roxette (although I would have liked it if they did), I play sport in a team of which no-one knows I like Roxette. And I listen to other music as well besides Roxette.
But if someone decides to go for Roxette only [and he or she is happy with that], then who am I (or you) to judge that?
You did not feel comfartable with that kind of life, so you changed it. If you are happy with it, then it has been a good choice.
Conclusion: Let everybody decide for themselves if they are happy with the way they put roxette in their life.

?????? I love Roxette, but I like listening to several other artists. And when I go out I also have a great time with music I’d never listen to if i could choose. I only get angry if it’s hip hop... And: I’d never buy 10 versions of the same single. Actually in the early past I stopped buying singles if there doesn’t come a really interesting B-side with it. And nevertheless I call myself a Roxette-FAN.

btw: I guess that’s the way most Roxette-Fans are acting, cause singles are becoming flops all (recent)time and albums are always top on the charts. (except this stupid compilations)

I don’t think (most) guys out there are sooo crazy about Roxette as you (aarghh) described, are you?

peeps, you don’t need to prove or justify yourselves here in front of anybody / in front of “agghh”.

Just live your life and be as happy as possible!!

Agghh: why did you come here as a new “anonymous” user? do you fear that all these freaks will start stalking you? ;)

Hey Agghh!

I know what you mean and of course noone of us here would identyfy with your description, what a surprise :-)
But I think it’s worth thinking about your words, because it happens so often that we follow something our whole life although it has lost it’s important elements. The reason why we chose this way is gone, but we still go it, ’cause we think it’s our way. But it often is an otherone’s (or noone’s) way.
I’m frightened of this sometimes.
What you wrote down was espacially about Roxette-fans, but to me that’s a much more common kind of question that’s worth to be asked from time to time.

And to take this Roxette-example:
I started collecting Roxette-records in 1994 and I wanted a complete collection. The strange thing with collectors (no matter if they are collecting stamps, toy-cars, postcards or whatever) is that it becomes quite irrational after a certain time.
First I wanted to have all Roxette-CDs because of the music. Not beeing dependend to when radio plays a song, but be able to listen to it whenever I want to. Later it was more the force to complete something, to create a kind of order in my life. I mean, I never listen to all these remixes, but I payed lot’s of money for the “Stars”-Vinyl-Maxi (don’t have a recordplayer at all) just to be able to put it between the “WICF” and “Salvation”-Vinyl.
Within the years I lost my interest in collecting more and more, but still I try to keep up with the new releases of Roxette and co.

But I think it’s quite sad to see someone who’s live is ruled by one single thing. It can be the Roxettefan who knows the birthday of Maries children, mother and sister but does not recognize that he just forgot his girlfriend’s/boyfriend’s birthday.
And there are many many Professors on university who never see natural light because they are working on a single molecule in a certain type of cell for their whole life.
The difference to a fan is, that an extreme fan is not able to do anything on his own. All the thinks he/she enjoys only depend on what her/his idol does. You collect something, but it’s nothing you created yourself, you see your idol topping the charts, but it’s not your own efford. And if this happens to someone in an extremely way this is really sad.
In this point the Professor I mentioned above is much more creative and independend, even if he also might have the same small view of the world and the same kind of fanatism.

To talk about me: I’m glad that I sometimes can be fascinated by things, and this is very often music. I do not want to miss that and I want to be a fan in these moments.

But I think that everyone of us should still be able to be fascinated by herself/himself sometimes (maybe like the professor who just discovered a new gene that regulates his favourite molecule).

There is a German Punk-Pop-Group called “Die Toten Hosen” and they wrote a self-critical song to their fans called “Helden und Diebe” (Heroes and thiefs), which is about their own career, about ups and downs and the pressure, always to deliver something new and still be an idol.
The song ends with the words:
“wenn Ihr an etwas glauben wollt glaubt an Euch selbst und nicht an uns”
(if you want to believe in something, believe in yourselves and not in us). Says everything, don’t you think?

Just realised that I wrote a little bit too much, but who cares?

Ok, it´s interesting, but most of us are now around 25, more or less, and I can assure that when you have 25, your fav group is not the main thing in your life (if it´s still your fav group, mine isn´t now). You have to worry about your work, the uni, your couple, your family, your money, your friends, your flat (if got)... maybe when I was at school I was more influenced, but that was looooong ago.

well I´m not a maniac!
Just a calm down fan...
Haven´t listened to Rox for weeks

@Lennon: The most resonable and relevant and intelligent and open and calm and decent post I’ve seen lately. I am totally agree with you.
Being a Rox-freak is more than sad, it’s a prison. But enjoying - as a Rox fan - something you appreciated in the last 18 years (!!!! kind of teasing Derek- I think it was Derek who was fired by telling that he’s with Rox for 18 years...which is an understandable mistake! Who the hell is still able to cound the years as a Roxette admirer??) without being stuck between the latest shoes that Per had in the promo pix and Marie’s eyes in a certain picture from Look Sharp days, is confortable and sweet.
I must say that I hate the un-vicious people: they always have something to hide behind their balanced image. But on the other hand it’s a foolish thing to dedicate your life NOT to a person (which is great), but to a band that you hardly could see for 5’ or 6’ in a press conference. It makes soooo in-creative!!

And one more thing, in order to underline my idea: I work in mass media and I was very curious to see how the Rox girls write the fan fictions...Yes, I read two (yesterday: for the first and the last time)!! I’m shocked, I must say. They write REALLY well (at least those that I read)...They spend a lot of time and energy and a great creation feeling in writing fanfictions that will never become real novels! What a pity! Those girls should concentrate to themselves as - why not? - writers. Maybe some of them can improve their talent in writing and can become famous through their forces. They should do something on their own! It’s such a pity to hide some good skills behind fan stories! If they are teenager, I can understand them: we all did this type of things - more or less. But, as I saw, they are more than 23 years old...which is just too much for not stopping writing sex stuff about P and M...Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against it, but I do think that being a “FAN” is somehow risky...You don’t really see when you crossed the line. And after that, it’s so hard to stop!!
How many times did you let something un-done in your life just because you had to do something in the Rox World? Don’t answer me. We all know that - at least once - we crossed the line.

@Lennon. what a great letter thanx
@max-teb .tease away my friend i dont mind .its nealy 18yrs but whoes counting i am a roxette admirer for sure and it has never ruled my life (not even my ex-wife)he he he. but i can understand why some people become fixsated by one thing to let it run their lives but enough said i think this dicussion is getting old and cold i think @agghh has heard enough from us roxers i hope she has gotten her answer

@Derek: Good point, Derek!! Let’s finish it! Let’s focus on something else... Some of us, who are Rox fans for more than 18 years (he, he, he) - like me and you for instance - get bored pretty fast!!! We don’t have the patience from the old times. Not anymore! (he,he, he...)

@max-tob you see you are also a 18yr fan dicussions are ok but after a time they get boring and like you i dont have the patience (heeeeeeee.heeeeeeeeeeeee)have a nice day and will catch you later on another topic bye bye

Why have so many people responded to a nutcase trolling for bites? Why give the demented little twat what he so desperately wants - attention to fill his empty little life?

@Lennon: I feel like you had been my words when I didn’t find them. Thank you. Maybe my message seemed a little “heavy”, but yours were the words I really tried to put together.
There is a sentence from a weird movie that made me think a lot, and it’s just what you’ve said, more or less like this: “love is the name we use when we don’t want to think we’ve spoilt a lot of years in a relationship”. Just put FAN instead of LOVE. As you said, we like someone (or something) and enjoy with it. Then we try to put an order in our lives by collecting everything about our idol, but at a certain moment it loses its original meaning. It’s like a snowball running down a mountain, getting bigger and bigger. We just go on with it, other way we’d have to stop and think, why I’ve been doing this all this time, when it got out of control.
I do know Die Toten Hosen, but not that song (I’ll have to give it a listen).
Thanks again and greetings.

The problem with what has been said in this thread is generalizations.
Because of course there are people like that... but not everyone is. Not even “most people” is.
But then again, I’ve never been sure of calling myself a “fan”. I just like music, and for example I enjoy Kent, Oasis, Crowded House, Duncan Dhu and many other bands as much as I enjoy Roxette.
Just remember that generalizing you’re gonna be wrong in most cases, because every person is so different from the rest.

“Days drift into days, life just slips away, everything you do ’n’ say, nothin’ but a clichie’.”

THE CLICHIE’S OF THE WORLD

@Agghh
all i have to say is - go play somewhere else and leave us alone, little girl!
you piss me off with your presumptions about the good people here.

Well...despite what it may seem, Roxette isn’t my life. I’m a huge fan, but I’m a huge fan of a lot of different people. I work (for the school system), I have hobbies (trying to write the ’Great American Novel’), and I love to hang out with friends *camping and such).

I’m not a fanatic, I just play one on tv :)

Cheers,
Salvation7-20-7

@Agghh: I think you don´t know so many fans that you can put all in one sack.
I´m a german what you say we all life only for Roxette.
But:
-I have a CD-collection with almost 200 CD´s what aren´t Roxette and if I had more money I had more, I listen also other music as Roxette
-I have also Friends who don´t like Roxette and always kidding Roxette.
-I watch also TV, play Playstation or Dreamcast and go out with other friends to billiard, Cinema or cafe.

But YES I spend many money for Rox-Stuff....
I´m a Rox-collector, that is the same like other peeps collect coins.

Your suggestion about the Roxette-Fans you think you know that all only because of maybe 10 or 20 other Fans what you know.

this is exactly why noone understands roxette fans. we don’t only lisaten to roxette, we don’t only think per and marie make the best music in the world....but we are fans of greatly composed pop music and thats what roxette prodouces. Igf you can’t undserstand that then there is somethign inherently wrong with you.
