The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight
animalkingdom said on March 31, 2003 17:58:
I never really gave a **** about the group until I heard Gran Turismo and a few songs on there. And now...What a masterpiece they have released! OMG it’s so great! Despite the infavourable reviews it’s so soulful and melodic!
For now my favs are “You’re the Storm”, “And Then You Kissed Me” and the fantastic “For What It’s Worth”...So does anyone else share my opinions?
By the way, these UK successors only made no. 47 on the top-75 albums chart this week. It seems to be downhill for all the Swedes nowadays... :(

aaaahh..Give it some time & you’ll c! :)
Gran Turismo, imo, hasn’t aged very well - probably because of the electricity.

I nearly bought this today - but didn’t. Do you think it’s really worth buying??
Vixzter said on March 31, 2003 23:06:
’For What Its Worth’ is awful but then thats just me hearing it on the radio ;)
animalkingdom said on April 1, 2003 07:16:
Chester, yeah, I think you should buy it :) But where’s Small-Talker when you finally need him..?

@ AnimalKingdom - after all that fighting we did, I can’t believe you’re a Cardigans fan aswell!
The new album really is excellent... if I was to make a list of my top 10 Cardigans songs, at leats half the tracks would be from Long Gone Before Daylight...! It really is such a georgous album, brilliant lyrics, georgous melodies... such a shame about the sleeve tho, it’s so boring.
But the material itself rocks - well it doesn’t really, more like Indie!
@ AnimalKingdom... what do you think of the following tracks? And what do you think should be singles?
My favourite tracks are:
1: Communication
2: You’re The Storm
4: ATYKM
7: For What It’s Worth
8: Lead Me Into The NIght
9: Live & Learn
11: 03.45: No Sleep
The singles should be like this:
1: For What It’s Worth
2: You’re The Storm (I already have a video planned out in my head... they shoudl ask me to direct it.... it would be the best video ever!)
3: Live And Learn (nice radio-friendly song... should be big)
They shoudl leave it at 3... But Nina has indicated in several interviews that A Good Horse will be a single... ARE ALL RECORD COMPANIES STUPID - THAT’S AN AWFUL SONG!
OK... so incase you can’t tell... it is an excellent album!!!

@ Small-Talker
...So the debate goes on...
As I LOOOOOVE “A Good Horse”!
I was playing the song to a friend of mine, she looked a bit funny, I asked if there was something wrong with it...it was just the ’s’ that was covered by the drums so she misinterpreted the lyrics there...Aawh, this has nothing to do with the things you asked - had to share it though :)
Track 1 is a bit lame...I like the melody but there’s nothing really going on there. Track 10 is probably the worst song but #6 (my fav at the moment) and #9 are great!
Singles I’d suggest after Worth:
1- You’re the Storm
2- A Good Horse
3- Track 8 (forgot the title)
4- Please Sister.

I saw the CD in some stores, and yes, the cover is bland + kinda dull, but I’m sure the music is anything BUT!! I saw the UK Special Edition with 2 bonus tracks, and the Japanese one with 1 bonus track, priced the same: $27.99 US, not bad.
I really love the Cardigans, not only cuz I love their music, but every album they release is much different from the one before it. Plus this one features guests like guys from The Hives and Soundtrack Of Our Lives. I definitely want to get it soon, as well as the A Camp CD, which I never picked up.
Small-talker said on April 30, 2003 10:30:
that a-camp album is amazing... if you love things being different from the album before you’ll love it! It’s quite electronic and Nina herself plays several instruments (it’s quite good to hear how her voice improves with each song).
If you’re still in doubt about buying the new Cardigans album - buy A_Camp and listen to the song “rock ’n’ roll ghost... it’s georgous, like a lot of Long Gone Before Daylight...
BTW: Communication is a “deadly” song!

I’ve never liked the Cardigans... and then they released “For What It’s Worth” and all that changed... (-:
I *LOVE* this album... second-best purchase of the year (after “Mazarin”, of course!). Highly recommended for anyone who likes acoustic, mellow, melancholic stuff from time to time...
My favourite is still “For What It’s Worth” but “Communication,” “A Good Horse,” “Live and Learn,” and “Feathers and Down” are all huge favourites... there isn’t a song on there that I don’t like, though... rare these days, it’s usually only Roxette albums that are like that for me (hmmm... and maybe Garbage...).

yawn the piece of clothing they r named after is more interesting :)
Euro4Ever said on February 11, 2004 22:48:
Yeah, they make Very Nice Pop/Rock on albums Life and First Band on the Moon
LGBD is a Great Great album. I really hope it gets a US release :)
And hope they have more Radio hits like Lovefool in US

And a Question to All who don’t/did not like Cardigans (or their new album):
How can a Roxette Fan not like it? Shame on All of You.

At first I didn’t like that album, but after a while I realised it was pretty good and everytime I listen to it I like it more and more

This album is great! I love it since first time I’ve heard it! Cardigans’s album were always damn good but this one is the greatest! I just love it, what can I say more??
Shane said on February 12, 2004 17:30:
I just received LGBD and love it. Since I live in the U.S., I had to import it, but it was well worth the cost. “Please Sister”, “Communication” and “Lead Me Into the Night” are my faves right now.
Since the Caridigans are not played in the U.S., I have not kept up on their cds - I want to pick up another one of their cds - anyone want to recommend which one I should get next? Thank you!
Chaghi said on February 12, 2004 17:57:
Well Shane, I’m with you. I bought LGBD just because Per has talked so well about it, that I wanted to give them a try.
I hardly can find any connection between this CD and any of the Roxette/PG stuff, but I like it. It sounds much more closer to MF solo albums, doesn’t it?
Are the previous albums like this one?
Please, I’d also like to hear some recomendations!

I agree that Long Gone Before Daylight is a great album! I like it very much. I couldn’t even choose favourites. “For What It’s Worth” didn’t really make a good impression on me though. But then “You’re The Storm” came along...
Euro4Ever said on February 13, 2004 22:07:
I think all their other albums were released in US and all had a High Hit Ratio, but are quite diferent in sound
Some people said that they did not like “First Band on the Moon”. I think it’s a Fun Pop/Rock album, with all songs being Good and Catchy. Weird Lyrics though.
“Gran Turismo” is Wickedly good. Darker Slower with more Techno/Synth. “My Favorite Game” is a Fast track, that sounds like Roxette. But these are all Awesome:
Erase /Rewind
Hanging Around
Higher
Starter
Paralyzed
Explode
Small-talker said on February 14, 2004 21:16:
So glad to see that this album is still being mentioned here! I’ve bought this album almost a year ago now, and still love it to death!
BTW, if you like this, I’d suppose you should check out Gran Turismo. It’s really dark and melodic, like LGBD, but with more electronica.
If you’re wondering where to go next with The Cardigans, I’d suggest you’d download these songs:
1) After All
2) Over The Water
3) Rise & Shine
4) Last Song
5) My New Cuckoo
6) Never Recover
7) Nasty Sunny Beam (b-side to Lovefool, i think!)
8) Paralyzed
9) Explode
10) Nil {a beautiful instrumental track, it’s the album-closer of Gran Turismo}
Hope this helps
