Avril recently responded to recent claims made saying that Avril didn’t play as big of part writing the songs for her album. She says, “People are
always saying that I’m just a product of the record label and manufactured, but that’s not true. It pisses me off, because I’m not like that. I’m a writer. I write my music. Maybe when I was younger I co-wrote with people, but I was learning.” She was also concerned that the songwriting team, the Matrix, may have been trying to take some credit away from her. “Do you think three adults came up with ’Sk8er Boi’ when it was based on my high school experiences? Those words were my words. And it really f***ing rips me apart when people try to take my credit away from me.”

I kinda like her and the music. Gets a bit repetitive, but she still writes some good stuff sometimes. Avril just like me in a way and I can relate to her. In an interview she said that she used to get bullied at school cos she skates. Same here. Im different from everyone at school cos I skate and the way I dress and attitiude, and I get put down so much for that. Antway, I think it’s cool that she made it to where she is no matter how or what she does now. One day, Im gonna be a star like her (but obviously bigger and better and more roxier!) she cool, and i wanna be a bit more like her ;)

I think her Album is one of the greastest Album of the last years. I just can’t decide which song I love to most of her Album. I think lately I most adore the songs: ’I am with you’ and ’Mobile’ really rocks!!!

Ya know what?? I read that Rolling Stone article too, and I really enjoy her CD as well, ALL of it. Now, yes, CERTAIN tracks were written with The Matrix, those being all 3 hits plus 2 more. Those Matrix cuts have the unmistakeable whiff of commercial slickness, music, arrangement + production, BUT they have a sense of Avril in the lyrics, which make up for the radio-friendly arrangement. I’d say the breakdown is: Avril: 25%, Matrix: 75%, as they are 3 people on that team. The other tracks, I’m sure, it was practically all Avril, like 90% her, those songs including “Losing Grip”, the 4th single, clearly influenced by Hole, and “Unwanted”.
Soooo, all you haters, I can understand why you hate Avril, but really, you HAVE to hear the whole CD, as the non-hits and 4th single are more what she’s truly like and her direction on her next album. You’ll see. But it’s easy to be turned off by clearly a commercial/bubblegum songwriting team like The Matrix, as those songs have that whiff of commercial hackdom, BUT they have craft to their stuff and are honest.

Coy, Avril wrote the first 3 hits with The Matrix, they dominated it though. As for Norah Jones, NOPE, her guitar player, Jesse Harris, wrote that song in 1999. The Matrix have nothing to do with Norah Jones. They have recently collaborated with Liz Phair and will be working on the next Britney album.

Actually Th Th + Boykie, it DOES make a difference if she wrote the songs or not. I prefer aretists who wrote their own songs, otherwise they are fake or created by the record companies.
I dug Avril’s record, yes, BUT that was before I realized how much of the songs she actually wrote!! Now, I feel her work is tainted. See, the work of actual singer/songwriters comes off as more original, honest, and authentic!! The fact Avril tried to pull the wool over our eyes just ruined it. I’ll never think of her as having the same credibility as someone like Michelle Branch who is for real, and she DOES write her own songs, plays guitar + keyboard parts on her record.
As for Roxette, if Per didn’t write all those songs, if the songs were written for them, I would not be a fan. Per is a genius songwriter, and their pairing is a work of art, with Per’s singing + guitar playing, and Marie’s singing. That’s their main appeal, Per’s songwriting and original Euro/powerpop blend, exciting, bright, melodic, kickass powerpop tunes!!
Avril is NOWHERE NEAR Roxette’s league!!

Whereas Roxette songs are 100% Roxette songs, you see, I don’t think you can put Avril in either Celines Category nor into Roxette ones. As Avril does have big influence into her songs. Well, maybe not that big as she tells us, but her Ideas are definitely implemented in her songs and she does have some that she wrote completely by herself which are great songs too.

Lately, I’ve come to feel her work is a bit prefabricated and she’s a fake. She is NOT the real deal. I thought she was, until I realized how much she actually wrote and how much was the work of the songwriters and handlers, creators of her image. See, she tries to put across the aura that she is the real deal, when she is really not. Sure, the Matrix, Clif Magness, and all the others are great songwriters and stuff, but Avril?? She hardly did anything!!! She was simply created by the record company, management, etc, and put her across as authentic, when she is as plastic and fake as Britney Spears!!!
Sorry, I shall wait and see what her next record is like before I decide again...

When something is prefabricated or fake, it just reeks of something bad. It’s hard to pinpoint what that something is, but I can smell something plastic from a mile away...
When I first heard “Complicated”, it sounded OK, like radio pop, but not the work of a TRUE artist. When Avril went about her lies that she wrote everything, and then I found out the truth, I felt like I had a bad taste in my mouth...if she had told the truth from the get-go, I’d be like, OK, fine. The Matrix are talented but have basically 1 song and they milk it for all it’s worth. I have more respect for The Matrix than I do Avril, without a doubt!!

i think people here have misunderstood one another. it is not “important” for an artist to write their own stuff as long as they don’t “pretend” they do, and isn’t that the real issue here?
i think what is really bugging people are the fact that she claims she is the “real deal” while they are convinced she is not.
