Divas of the decades

I’m working on a project and require some help. Please write down an (or more) outstanding female performer/Diva(s) of each decade.

60’s
70’s
80’s
90’s

Thanx for everyone who will take the time!

your not asking for much are you? :)
let’s see my faves....

the “Queen of Quirk”.... Jane Siberry from some place called Canada. ;)

Sam Phillips, great album: bikinis and martinis.

Switchblade Symphony is really well known in my area, 2 cute and crazy lil goth dolls.

Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Enya, Bjork... all those that will be on everybodys list.

Elizabeth Frazier from the Cocteau Twins.

Concrete Blonde lead singer Jonette Napolitano.

Nanci Griffith, tons of albums... her best, Storms.

British recluse Kate Bush. Been around for ages...no relation to the criminal mastermind Bush.

My Fiji - Malaysian - cutie - dusky - lesbian - uknown to the world Tanita Tikaram. Break out song in 1988, Twist in my Sobriety.

Norway’s Anelli Drecker. solo and lead for Bel Canto.

Siouxsie!!!

Natalie Merchant from 10,000 Maniacs.... better solo.

Gitane Demone.... hard to explain.

Nico (the only one I like from the 60’s)... she is long gone but was great with the Velvet Underground.

60’s > diana ross and the supremes
70’s> donna summer
80’s> tina turner or cher

no prob! :)

aren’t divas people who were around for more than one song?

outstanding female performer/Diva

I just went with the outstanding female performer part. I don’t use the word diva much.

Kim Wilde in the beginning of the 80’s
Madonna in the 80’s and 90’s
Marie Fredriksson in the 8o’s and 90’s

Marie is not a Diva!!!

;-)

60’s I don’t know much
70’s I guess Donna Summer, and maybe Cher.
80’s Well, my music, and there’s a lot, but I’d choose of course the queen Madonna, and perhaps Cindy Lauper, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Olivia Newton John.
90’s Madonna again, Celine Dion (best voice of all), Mariah Carey (even when I don’t like her that much) and Whitney Houston.

YOu forgot to add a very important diva of the 21st century: Miss Damineh :).

“Marie is not a Diva!!! ;-)”

Just sometimes when she is attacked by freaky fans ;)

Miss Damineh is definitively the 21st Century Diva! ;-)

Oh thank you very much. I would like to thank my parents and my dear brother for all the love they gave me through years. Without their support I wouldn’t be here. YOu guys are my inspiration.
*tears*
Then I would like to thank my family whom I haven’t seen for quite a long time but will always be my all.
I would like to thank my friends who have stood by me through thick and thin. Thank you guys.
Freddie and Per: Thank you for everything!
And finally, I would like to thank myself for all the effort and hard work. I would like to thank myself for never giving up. Without myself, I would be nobody!
Thank you all fans. Love you always. Lets hope for a better world.

Shampoo divas? :DDDDDDDDDD
They sing like if you step on a cat’s tail :DDDDDDD
But ok, song’s are funny :p

“Oh-oh, we’re in trouble...” :p

I have silly question :)

why Celine Dion is a diva?
why Marie Fredriksson is not a diva?
why? why????

Per Gessle! :-)

My dear Madjy, for me Celine Dion is a diva because of her wonderful voice. Besides her songs are beautiful also, and... she’s got the look too ;-)

60’s diana ross
70’s donna summer
80’s cher
90’s mariah carey
00’s celine dion

:-P

I am a Roxette fan just like all of you and like Marie. Putting prejudice towards Marie and Per aside, why would MArie be a diva?! What extraordinary thing has she done?

I love Marie!! But she’s not a diva :-(

For me a diva is an icon, someone you just mention her name and everyone knows whom you’re talking about, and the things she’s done. Besides she must have a special glamour, charisma, and people imitate her in some way.
Truly divas are for example Marilyn Monroe and Madonna (love her or hate her, but you know she is).

But I guess every country could have it’s own divas. In that case Marie would be the Swedish Diva... but I don’t live in Sweden. A Swedish fan could answer that question better.

80s - Janet Jackson / Madonna / Gloria / Cyndi / Cher / Tina
90s - Mariah

....thats’ about it 4 moi

Who are Gloria, Tina and Cindy??

hmm lets see

barbara streisand, kd lang, crystal gale, dolly parton, sarah mclachlan, cher, celine dion, annie lennox, mariah carey, whitney houston, gloria gaynor, aretha franklin, patty labell

“For me a diva is an icon, someone you just mention her name and everyone knows whom you’re talking about,

Well, everybody knows who Marie Fredriksson is!

and the things she’s done.

Also everybody knows what Marie has done/is doing: singing in roxette!

Besides she must have a special glamour, charisma,

Marie certainly has charisma.

and people imitate her in some way. “

I guess there are people out there who think they are Marie when they are singing (under the shower)

Who are Gloria, Tina and Cindy??

Gloria Estefan
Tina Turner
Cyndi Lauper
