Roxette's last power-ballad
SkyDrum said on February 12, 2003 21:30:
Hey! Which is, in your opinion, the last power ballads Roxette did? I think thay are Love Is All, What’s She Like?, and Almost Unreal... Do You agree?
s-czopek said on February 12, 2003 21:31:
Melody wise it was probably “Salvation” although the arrangements tried hard to lighten it a bit...
dizzydaleks said on February 12, 2003 21:32:
@ xarrr -I agree, plus maybe Things Will Never Be The Same. Well, I’ve always seen that as a ballad. And I’ve been assured that in Sweden leaves do, indeed, turn blue :)

By the way, I’m quite pleased they gave up on trying to sound like Heart. They’re better now.
“Fading like a flower” & “Listen to your heart” sound so much better when played live and acoustic. I think a lot of people turned their back on Roxette because they felt they sounded just like any bland american band...
xarrrr said on February 12, 2003 21:35:
@dizzydaleks: oooh i forgot that one! i totally LOVE it too!
s-czopek said on February 12, 2003 21:36:
It’s a good song but it revealed itself a GREAT one when I heard the version that’s on the b side of “ON”...
xarrrr said on February 12, 2003 21:38:
oh i know! i cried when i heard it the first time... its one of my faves now, b-sides, that is! its always been one of my fave songs :)
rox-kuryliw said on February 12, 2003 21:54:
roxette last power ballad was ’my world, my love , my life’ or ’breathe’
japeke said on February 12, 2003 22:40:
well, breathe definitely isn’t a power ballad, it is just a ballad IMHO
eva_roxer said on February 12, 2003 23:14:
As a “power-ballad”, I think “Almost Unreal” was the last one.
“Anyone” is a strong ballad but it’s not power-ballad because of the lack of guitars :)
baio said on February 13, 2003 01:01:
As single: Crash!Boom!Bang!
Non single: My world, my love, my life.
baio said on February 13, 2003 01:03:
@EveryBody!!!! “THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME is not a ballad!!!!
It’s almos dancable!
Ferdan said on February 13, 2003 03:23:
Love is all a power ballad??!? come on
The last power ballad was MWMLML
xarrrr said on February 13, 2003 17:35:
i kinda agree Baio... BUT.... (imho) the lyrics are very suited to be a ballad. and the acoustic version on Tourism shows it to be a great ballad :)
RoxQC said on February 13, 2003 17:51:
Last Power-Ballad : Wish I Could Fly. Marie’s voice is so beautiful and strong in that one.
SkyDrum said on February 13, 2003 18:01:
Well, when I asked I thought you were going to take it seriously, but this? Salvation, Wish I Could Fly, My World My Love My Life, power-ballads?
Salvation is a radio pop ballad, WICF is a soul influenced ballad and MWMLML is more a hip-hop song than another thing... I’m worried...

“Love is all” a power ballad????? :|
The last for me was The Rain, wow... long ago... :D
Well... Beautiful things demo is a pretty good power ballad, it seems Gessle, Ilbert and Öfwerman cut the energy from it when the recording of Have a nice day :-/
PS.: “my love my....” HIP HOP?!?!?!? :DDD That was funny! :p
Edu82 said on February 13, 2003 23:50:
but what the hell is a power ballad? I think that songs like “almost unreal” or “listen to your heart” are power ballads because they have some heavy guitars. But I don’t know... Spending my time is also a power ballad, isn’t it?
Small-talker said on February 14, 2003 10:49:
don’t know... don’t really care [not in an offensive way]. I like their sentimental side more.
Tourism:
The Heart Shaped Sea

BMDTMK
... these are all far superier songs...
Roxette-atic said on February 14, 2003 17:13:
Defenitly My Worl, My Love My Life. BMDTMK is however N O T a power ballad.
baio said on February 15, 2003 00:00:
Yea, “Bringing me down to my knees” is a TEEN-POP ballad.
And YES, LOVE IS ALL is a POWER Ballad.
SkyDrum said on February 15, 2003 20:44:
Thanx baio! You do understand about power-ballads... Cheers!
Snowy said on February 16, 2003 02:21:
“Bringing Me Down To My Knees” is not a teen ballad. It’s not a power ballad either. It is more emotional than the normal Roxette ballad.
Best ballads by album:
Pearls of Passion: From One Heart To Another
Look Sharp!: Listen To Your Heart
Joyride: Perfect Day
Tourism: Queen of Rain
Crash! Boom! Bang! Go To Sleep
Don’t Bore Us, Get To The Chorus: I Don’t Want To Get Hurt
Have A Nice Day: Beautiful Things
Room Service: My World, My Love, My LIfe
Ballad Hits: Breathe
I’ve noticed that with the exception of the first album, their most beautiful ballad is always the last song on the album, 2 of which was written by Marie. Breathe is an EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL song.
Anyone who has a copy of Ballad Hits will know what I mean.
baio said on February 17, 2003 05:20:
@Snowy, you are crazy!
>>Joyride: Perfect Day
What about “Spending my time”, “(Do you get) exide?” ?
>>Crash! Boom! Bang! Go To Sleep
Actually, I think it’s one of the worst.

@Skydrum:
I am also worried, since you think MWMLML is more or less a hip-hop song.
I have never seen a song which is further away from hip-hop than MWMLML.
MWMLML is one of the most beatiful ballads Roxette has ever made.
SkyDrum said on February 18, 2003 17:49:
So, MWMLML is a power-ballad... Tell me what is what’s making you think it’s a power-ballad? If it’s not a hip-hop-oriented ballad, tell me: what about those drum loops taken from an HH Synth LP, is that pop somehow? YOu worry me...really...
animalkingdom said on February 18, 2003 18:29:
I have to agree with Per: they had NO power ballads on Room Service!
Last power ballad? As a single: Anyone!
xarrrr said on February 12, 2003 21:30:
power ballads? almost unreal and fading like a flower :)
