onlywhenidream said on February 10, 2003 13:47:
not sure - but in my virgin magestore - hey also had ATAY in the new release section - but didn’t even have TBH in the top 75 of their albums....what’s going on here!
tevensso (moderator) said on February 10, 2003 13:58:
Unfortunately the single sold in the U.K. is made in Holland... For all you collectors out there.
PeterGm said on February 10, 2003 15:22:
ATAY is not a Top40 song in UK (but the album is)....Opnox could be though...at least that’s what I think.
oshtay said on February 10, 2003 15:33:
I hope I am wrong but I will be joyfully surprised if ATAY makes the Top 40 in the UK. It’s a shame because it’s such a beautiful song.
However I agree that ON certainly has the potential to be at least a Top 40 hit and quite possibly Top 20. With a little bit of promotion, airplay and plenty showings of the video on MTV, it should be Roxette’s biggest UK hit for many years.
felicity-brown said on February 10, 2003 17:37:
I’m proper pissed! After looking around both Virgin and HMV here in London, I found it in the singles section for Roxette in HMV. The Virgin I went into didn’t have it at all! And to top it off, it was the f***ing Dutch CDS!!!! Of course, I had to buy a couple (although I have it) - it’s for a good cause afterall :D
felicity-brown said on February 10, 2003 17:42:
...but I must add that I was made a little happier to see some POS for TBH. It was being advertised as a Valentine’s gift...
dizzydaleks said on February 10, 2003 17:53:
Just got my copy - £2.99 at HMV Manchester, FROM THE NEW RELEASES SECTION!!!! :)
xarrrr said on February 10, 2003 18:50:
PS i also got mine from the new release section... but they only had 2!!!
and woolies aint gettin it :( so no staff discount lol!
dizzydaleks said on February 10, 2003 18:51:
dizzy being dizzy here “POS”? I know it’s probably poster, but what does it mean?
Vixzter said on February 10, 2003 18:51:
i brought 2 copies.....I must be mental.....not even a UK cat#
felicity-brown said on February 10, 2003 18:56:
@ xarrr: Naah, the POS I saw was in Our Price and Virgin, but it wasn’t specific for Rox. A few artists were featured on this Valentine’s display, but it was still nice to see some empty spaces on TBH shelf :D You seen any Rox only POS? I want some. That poster on R2R looked cool!
felicity-brown said on February 10, 2003 18:57:
POS = point of sale. Sorry, just get used to it at work...
Vixzter said on February 10, 2003 18:59:
I was out posting my promo leaflets on car windows in a Sainsburys car park just now ;) ....only did 3.....then thought someone was watching and legged it ;)
xarrrr said on February 10, 2003 19:06:
@felicity-brown... thanx! i put up 2 new posters in the common room today! they look way better! Per and Marie are on it this time!
s-czopek said on February 10, 2003 19:07:
@PeterGm,
I really don’t agree.
“A Thing About You” is potentially a great song for UK !
See what happened with “Wish I Could Fly”... Everybody thought it wasn’t the ideal single for UK (compared to “Stars”) and it peaked at #11 when “Stars” failed to even enter the Top 50. The big difference is “WICF” got plenty of airplay from Radio 1 when “ATAY” is hardly a favourite on Radio 2’s. My point is it’s not a question of which song suits which market but a pure matter of promotion. These days, ANYTHING promoted can find its way up the charts in UK. I’ve said it already but I’ll say it again : “A Thing About You” is way better than practically any single listed in the UK Top 40 at the moment.
xarrrr said on February 10, 2003 19:10:
i agree, most of the material in the top 40 is complete and utter CRAP
ally77 said on February 10, 2003 20:00:
Sent my Mum for a copy from Woolies....
I will get my 2 copys tommorrow at HMV!!
Vixzter said on February 10, 2003 20:58:
The more a song is played the higher it will get in the charts.....its the brainwash factor! I wonder how many ppls actualy went out and brought ATAY simply coz they heard it on the radio. If it works for Justin Timberlake and Avril Lavigne (Sk8ter Boy is annoying now!!) then it would work for Roxette only they have different record companies! ;)
s-czopek said on February 10, 2003 22:54:
Unfortunately I think it’s worse than that. I think they have a powerful enough company. It’s just in UK, EMI seems to have completely deserted them. Just as if they simply did not believe in that band anymore. If Roxette had a small indie label in Britain everybody could understand the lack of promo. But EMI UK is everything but a small company. And it’s really terrible cause they’re missing the whole thing. Back in 1999 “Wish I Could Fly” was a rather successfull comeback single. Roxette had fail to enter the Top 40 three times in a row and yet they were able to peak at a more-than-decent 11. Then everything went wrong : disappointing charts peaks everywhere for “Anyone” led them to withdraw the single’s release and when they had to release “Stars” they acted as if the song had no chart potential and the whole release was a complete let down.
Do you know why “The Centre Of The Heart” wasn’t a single in UK ?? Because EMI UK felt that if people wanted to buy the single they simply had to buy the import Cds !
What can you expect from people thinking like that ?
It’s a total waste.
roxhuw said on February 11, 2003 00:06:
Went to Newport south wales today, HMV, Our Price, woolies nor whsmith had the single. Managed to get the single in hitman store selling the single at £0.99 each, so got three, you were saying it doesnt have a UK cat #, well mine does I think. But I agree this will be a disaster for ATAY, and its a shame as TBH did so well. Why doesnt Roxette and EMI use common sense and give us a bonus track or something, as Roxette fans from the Uk will have imported the single already. Ah well will see if Cheltenham stock the single later this week, and shall buy more copies!!
ditroia said on February 11, 2003 01:41:
Hey we didn’t get ATAY in Australia or an Ounce of Promotion for TBH, so EMI UK isn’t as bad as EMI AUS.
though I did buy 8 copies of M&T&H whe nit was release here.
Dave
Vixzter said on February 11, 2003 06:31:
@roxhuw - whats the cat# on it?
If its a UK cat# then it should start something like...
CDEM and then a number.
If not then its the same as the European single which is 07243 5 51506 0 8.
(not that I’m a sad collector or anything ;) but if yours has a UK cat# I’ll buy one from you)
RobS said on February 11, 2003 08:10:
@ditroia - and we didn’t even get the Bonus EP - i wonder if TBH will sell more than RS??
JohnUK21 said on February 11, 2003 09:05:
Oh and it only counts to the UK TOP 40 if you buy it from HMV, VIRGIN or OUR PRICE.
coyboyusa said on February 11, 2003 13:08:
this is why breath should have been the lead single in thew uk now if ballad hits flops in the uk it wont come out in the usa why must britian be a ledger for what emi capitol put out in the usa anyway?
android said on February 11, 2003 17:31:
ATAY is #65 on the first midweekchart. It wont be top 20 but it could climb to top 40. TBH wasn´t top 40 on the first midweek last week.
MATAH charted as #77. I think ATAY atleast will do better.
http://spice.dotmusic.com/forums/Messages.asp?ThrdID=291545&Id=2
TBH is #27.

Here Here.... I got 2 copies in HMV today... or rather my Dad did after I sent him to town on the search (bless him)...
He had words with the manager in Big W asking why the hell they did not stock it, and did they know that his daughter would be a very unhappy person if he did not return with it......
Get this.............. they told him that it is not in there chart therefore they will not sell it but they have all new releases that are in THERE chart on sale (all those artists what call themselves talented... you know the ones that wear nothing in the videos!!!)... I am writing a complaint to EMI as this is very Poor!!
Per wake up and do something!!!!
Denstandigaresan said on February 11, 2003 22:03:
Roxhuw... £0.99! NO WAYS! :( It’s £2.99 here, so didn’t get one. One reason is i’m TOTALLY skint, but the main reason is, I already have the import one.
roxhuw said on February 12, 2003 00:09:
@ vixzter, ah my mistake it says Uk: but theres no number after it, its the one made in the EU.
Shame about the mid-week positioning, but Saturday is usally where most of the sales are made. Yep 0.99p was good, the girl at the counter said she was lucky she got her copy already as I cleared out the store of their ROX singles. LOL
Its a shame the video wasnt put on any of the sky digital music channels. That could have been good promo??
steven said on February 12, 2003 15:15:
Just bought the last one from the Swansea branch of HMV and the album was down to its last one too.
I don’t know which has surprised me more... that the album and signle are seemingly selling well or that there are other Rox fans in Swansea :)
onlywhenidream said on February 12, 2003 16:04:
LOL Steven...aww bless, there are some closet fans in my town too - I am sure!
Vixzter said on February 12, 2003 20:39:
@steven - or....HMV never really got that many copies in in the first place ;)
Chester said on February 10, 2003 11:00:
I have just bought ATAY from HMV in Stockport. Unfortunately i couldn’t find it in Woolworths, WH Smiths and it wasn’t in the new release section in HMV (It was in the Roxette section).
It needs some more promotion!
I had originally, genuinely, believed that ATAY would be a Top 40 hit single. Now i’m not sure it will make the top 75!
