ON - Catchiest song ever?

Could it be that Opportunity Nox is one of the catchiest songs written by Per??
I’ve been singing this song constantly for the past 3 days!!

I’m the same! On the very first listen I got off the net and couldn’t stop singing it, normally it takes me a while to remember a song but not this time! One of the most catchiest chorus’s Per has written in years!
Wonder if anything could happen in Australia with it...

I hope EMI do release it here in Australia and give it a good kick in the bum promotion wise, fingers crossed. Then I think it would do well. Its the catchiest Roxette song for a very long time. I have also been playing it non-stop over and over, and I cant get sick of it! The song finishes and you just want more!

I don’t think it’s the catchiest.
“Fading like a flower” has an infernally catchy chorus.
So had “Joyride”, “Fireworks”, “It must have been love” and recently “The centre of the heart” and “Real sugar”...
“Oppotunity nox” has an annoyingly catchy chorus.
But that’s still catchy anyway so I’m predicting #1 in Swedish sales chart.

i really think that ON could do well on Aussie radio, if only EMI would release it (they didn’t release ATAY!) and promote it.
ON is too good of a song for OZ radio to pass by.

WOW!! Definitely one of Per’s finest creations, that’s fer sure, dang!! I, too, heard it on the net for the first time, and I immediately had to hear it again and again!! Perfect powerpop, YOWZA!! That song is my earliest contender as best song of 2003. It’s gonna be hard for another to beat that one!! I’m downloading the video now. Twill be one of those songs I will play for everybody I know who THINK Per and Roxette are crap. ON will change people’s minds, just a brilliant slice of powerpop!! Per did it again!! WOWEE, I have to hear it again, from just talking about it!!

No, it’s not. I can live without Opportunity Nox. I prefer June Afternoon or Fading like a flower at any time of the day...

the only thing about nox that stucks in ur head is the chorus cause the verses r sooooo stupid
powerpoplarry said on February 10, 2003 09:12:
No guys, the lyrics really don’t matter here, it’s all there to serve the catchy melodies, hooks and choruses. They sound like they’re about a fan I think, but to me they are just secondary. That’s the thing about great powerpop, the lyrics DON’T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE, they could be really stupid!! The thing that matters is the words sound good together and form a hook of their own. As long as the song stays stuck in your head, and you can’t remove it, that’s the whole point!! ON does it’s job well, and it’s downright irresistible!! Not only that, the production and arrangements are guitar-heavy, punchy, and modern/futuristic, yet of the 60s/70s powerpop tradition!!
Oh, and I really dig the video, retrofuturistic animation, like the Gorillaz yes, but also of classic cartoons like Gigantor and Speed Racer!! Excellent!!
RobS said on February 10, 2003 11:48:
i still think the lyrics in ON make more sense than those from The Look, Maybe that’s just me.
But to me the lyrics just fit the music perfectly in ON, and really get stuck in your head. And isn’t that what makes a great powerpop song?
powerpoplarry said on February 11, 2003 08:01:
I agree!! The lyrics in ON do make sense, as they seem to be about a fan, or a person Per is obsessing over. The words of “The Look”?? They just sound good together and don’t make any sense. The words are just guide words and Per couldn’t find any better ones he said. Yes, ON is a perfect powerpop tune, as the insanely catchy hooks are among Per’s most inspired, combined with cool obsession lyrics!!
A slice of GENIUS, powerpop HEAVEN, ’nuff said!!
