THE LOST POWER ...
THEY HAVE LOST POWER ...
i am everything else than over-critical, negative or against roxette’s new songs or style in general - BUT - the new songs are nice but not great and the best they’ve done. the lyrics are of course GREAT and the voice of marie ist superb too (like in the look sharp! / joyride days) but i am missing the ROXETTE POWER of love songs and ballads.
every day is a sweet song (btw: is it written by marie?) and it hurts is shining of withhold of instruments - why just a drum-computer and some keyboard-effects? i am not dissapointed but after listening to the new roxette songs, the radio played CAN’T STOP LOVING YOU from PHIL COLLINS and i must say, this is a powerful new ballad in comparison to roxette’s new stuff (it hurts, the weight of the world, every day).
what do you think? do you also miss the special roxette hookline and power-riffs and this kind of “catch” when you’ve listened to those songs for the first time? i would be interested, if i am the only person who has those thoughts!

They’ve moved on from 80’s power ballads.
Marie’s voice is also better now.
Thats all I have to say ;)

no. I don’t miss it. Songs like Spending my time, LTYH, etc.,etc. were really great, but I like the new roxette style a way more. I don’t like so much the ballads from RS (MTH, Little Girl, Bringing me down to my knees...), but I really love the new ones (well, maybe I don’t like that much TWOTW). and Marie’s voice is pretty amazing.

I have to say that those 3 songs you’re saying are B-sides, bonus tracks, 2nd class for them or whatever you want to say.
Do you wonder why nobody has listened yet to “Breathe”? Could it be this the pearl you’re waiting for?
And I think that “The Power” is to come, with the new power hits album :P Spring uses to be a happy season ;)

I agree! I like the new songs..., but the good old magic like in LTYH, Spending.. and CBB is missing! I miss that kind of songs that you hear the first time and you’re captured! I hope that BREATHE is a song of that category again!
I love the new songs, too! I mean after 13 years beein’ infected with the “R-Virus” what else can I do? But I’d like to hear another “REAL-BIG-SONG” that kicks you out of your socks!!! ;-)

joyrider, I wondered the same when I heard every day, is it written by marie? does anyone know?

I agree with Santi. These songs are bonus songs, and they probably arent “completely produced”. I think “Thing ABout You” is one of their catchiest, and “freshest” ballads in a long time, so Im sure “Breathe” will be just what we are looking for.

Yea, I miss the ELECTRIC GUITARS in the ballads.
The last ballad I really enjoyed was “My world, my love, my life”

The “power” ballads are good, of course. “Listen To Your Heart” is one of my favorite Roxette songs ever, for example.
But I think it’s these new songs like “It Hurts” and “Every Day” that really stand out for them. They are not the same power ballads. It’s good to hear music like this from them. Something different. It’s good.

YOu cannot compare these extra tracks with their #1 hits, they are meant to be extras.
Let’s wait until we hear breathe ....

Oh man! You listen to some crappy audio streams over the web and then you complain that you don’t get the real impact... :-(
I have to say it once again: DON’T LISTEN OVER THE WEB, WAIT FOR THE ACTUAL CD!
Roxeanne said on October 23, 2002 07:34:
well, strange, i find these songs the best since a long time.
but i’m one of those aliens who hated stars, so that might explain my ...uuh... bad taste.
:-)
no, to be serious, i think they’ve just grown up from simple pop.
marie has always been on the jazzy-side, hasn’t she?

When I listen to the new songs I think they are great, but if I listen to e.g. Fading like a flower or It must have been love e.t.c. before or after it feels that something is “missing”from the new songs.

Everyday reminds me HAND times (good times) but IT hurts is ok but not enough , i agree : is not a great song thought i prefer it than any ballad in Room Service. A great one for me at the new stuff is The Weight of the World (the best)(better than ATAY)
pardek said on October 23, 2002 10:02:
mh...somehow I do agree, but I think Roxette has made so many power ballads, so the new songs ar e just an additive to those we already know. I think that’s much better than doing the same stuff on a repetitive way... .
DTR24 said on October 23, 2002 13:32:
Sorry but I don’t agree. The todays music is just in step with our modern Time. Roxette cannot play again a Joyride kind song. It won’t be listend at all ( Ok it will by us the Roxette fans :-))
But look ATAY is a simple Ballad full of interesting synth effekts. Thats todays music...and Roxette are just flexible in that.
I like them as they are now, as well as in the past.
Greetings Dany

I have to agree with some of you. I think these new songs (specially “Every Day”) are much more mature. Very simple yet catchy tunes. No pretentious pop-teen like songs like what they did with HAND and RS. “It Hurts” sounds very early-90s. It’s an old song. But “Every Day” is actually very, very good. Very fresh. I could imagine this song as the main title for a love movie.
I sincerely hope “Breathe” follows these new “guidelines”. I don’t expect a new CBB song.
I think Per and Marie are finally growing old, but in a good sense. In a more mature-like way. Yay for that!
I like this new Roxette style :)

Well, when you get to the 40’s, you got to take a lighter life, ya know...so, this is Roxette-light...hehehe...
I’m very satisfied, and eager to have the BH CD. These new songs are great! I trained myself to listen to new Rox stuff coldly, without the appeal of a fan in my “analysis”. And I must say...these songs have class! They couldn’t be a single, a chart topper, but they’re like those album-filling songs that needed just a...a thing, invisible, undefineable to have that “hit” blur. Songs like Watercolours in the Rain, Fireworks, you know? They’re excellent. I don’t have to force my heart to say that, like I did with the filling songs from RS. I loved’em since I heard’em for the first time.
But...in the case of “Power” on ballads...I think this kind of ballad it’s over. I mean, the sweetest, simple ballads are the right thing to make. No matter if you are able to play something like this, sometimes you have to give people what they want. Those power ballads are...I guess...harder to assimilate now. Specially for the young public. But...who knows? There’s a big mistery over Breathe...a very suggestive title, no information so far...well...maybe the answer to our prayers? Until now, the new songs replied our expectatives totally. Per knows and feels all we fell as well. So, folks...hold your Breath...

But maybe they like that “Shooting Star” thingie too much. The effects on “Every Day” are almost the same as in TWOTW...

I always skip that song (Little Girl), that’s why I didn’t know :D

the last roxette ballad with this special ROXETTE POWER was BEAUTIFUL THINGS ... on room-service i can’t find a song with this magic - can you?
coyboyusa said on October 24, 2002 17:26:
ok well i have to chime in. i have to sya when i listen to some of their older hits they sound OLD> flaf, imbl, ltyh, yes they had a great magical quality around them , and they still do...but being an artist means growth. if roxette had remaind formulaic and just kept pumping out copies of the older hits where would they be...on vh1 laughed at for being one hit wonders...or being compared to bon jovi who has written the smae pwoer ballad and anthem rovcker for 20 yrs. even abba fell inot this category ...none of their ewntire albums were listable, they had a song here or there but not an entire album. roxette is different, they come from a time when writting a solid long playing album was the rule. the new songs continue in that vein, for people to dismiss the new songs as per and marie becoming lazy so be it. they have as a group and seperate been successful for over 2 decades, at some point even you would get sick and tired of 101 award shows, 2 million interviews.....at some point you want a normal life and that is what they are getting
