ATAY: just another "wardrobe-song"

Given that my message has been lost down the string of a previous discussion, i thought maybe i could actually see who agrees with me (thx Steven!).

ATAY isn’t what I expected. Ok, a “near-to-nice” song and so on, but it is the same as any other ballad Per has written before... comes from the same wardrobe basically... nothing outstanding or outrageous. Actually only the first minute is nice because it is new...then I feel it is like a VERY long fade out...
Where is that “power-ballad”? NO energy, guitar riffs, the “building-up” as the song moves on...

At this point in time, however, i do understand Marie and Per are “here” to enjoy themselves and I do agree it is a nice song...but it isn’t a new IMHBL, FLAF or LTYH sung by him.

Just waiting to see what the other ballads will sound like. “I wanna be your boyfriend” and “Sheena is a punkrocker” were definitely much better.

I like ATAY and I’m absolutely happy that Roxette, after 16 years, still release a single, and I must say I like uptempo songs way more than ballads... but I have to agree with you.
Yep, that was my first impression, another song from the wardrobe. But at least we have that wardrobe :-)

Peter, that was one of the best comments I’ve read. I think the song is nice. I also try not to have expectations like some people at this forum because they tend to get disappointed, and the crazy ones get angry. It’s nice it’s tolerable!

Well, in the defense of the ones that had high hopes coming in (at least in my case), Although it wasn’t the power ballads of yesteryear, it was still awesome with some lyrics that I really wasn’t expecting. It’s a ballad in it’s own right. And it has some power to it. But living in the past only leads to severe disappointment.

Hooray to Roxette for still being there when (some) fans aren’t. In case you couldn’t tell by any of my previous replies, I’m exstatic that they’re still together. :)

Anyhoo, I think that I will surrender the soapbox for tonight.

Cheers Everyone! :)

agree 1000% with Peter..

read topic “Fan Forecast”

they can’t do powerballads since flaf... was there a powerballad on cbb? (oh maybe cbb has some power in the ending, that’s why i like it)... i don’t know why it is the way that it is but what we can do about it? i miss powerballads to!

how can you compare stuff per covers as to things he writes himself. the ramones never reached the pinnacles roxette have ...and who the hell wants them to sit in a rut making 100 clones of SMT or FLAF

DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S OUR PROBLEM?

We listen to new Rox’ stuff with pre-made opinions.

We want Per to barf e piece of art at every CD release. There isn’t any band of the world capable of doing that.

ATAY doesn’t have power - why? ’Coz it doesn’t have guitars like those old classic rock songs? I think the cello gives the necessary ’power’ to this song. The bridge shivers. The chorus is sweet.

Besides, there’s another thing that nobody considered: the thing Per calls ’tune’. We are not living in a time where super dramatic, rocky ballads are well-accepted.

Since Internet, forums, message spaces and other stuff were created, every huma being can be turned in a listeneable entity. In the case of a forum like this, this...”listeneableness” matters, bothers, move P&M’s motto. It’s really horrible create things (like if they were some sort of king’s clowns) to please people that are non-fans and have to be conquered and those ones who will obviously buy their material...

ATAY isn’t brilliant, it will perform well in charts for some few weeks, but that isn’t out of the plans. I guess that Per at least decided to follow the clever commerical philosofies in music area: save the best for last...Breathe is going to be even better, even touchy than the great ATAY.

And remember: The hits are in the POWER PEAS ALBUM!!!!!!!
