I think that there are some definite changes in Roxette’s musical styles from like Look Sharp (which sounds very 80s and synthesiser-ish, and lots of squeeling guitars) through to RS (which is more mellow, mature and respectful).
But, like what has been said before, it’s the way that Per writes now - it is theway his life has changed and how it is manifest in the roxette songs.
There is nothing we can do about it - we either learn to adapt too, or we decide that Roxette are not the band for us anymore.
I also think though, it is good for fans not to like everything that an artist does - as it shows that they have some critical appreciation and are not just wrapped up in the world of ’pop-stardom / fanaticism’ or whatever!
what does everyone else think?

i don’t see a big reason why we should be frustrated because of their style in 2001. maybe we all would call room service our favourite album, if it was 10 weeks #1 in the us and uk and everywhere else... what me gets frustrated is the whole compilation-shit. they should make a break of 2 or 3 years insdead of makin those compilations. a new album in 2004 would be much better than 2 compilation albums in 2003. just my opinion.
i like their latest records. i love the ballads on have a nice day and crush on you, fool, jefferson, real sugar are some of the best uptempo songs. if they would have waited in 1999, a year maybe, and than released a mix between room service and have a nice day, roxette would have had more success. this comeback would have been realy big and an album with 14 hand/rs songs - great.
my song list for their comeback-album in 2000
01 crush on you
02 entering your heart
03 wish i could fly
04 real sugar
05 it will take a long time
06 jefferson
07 fool
08 lookin for jane
09 pay the price
10 the center of the heart
11 salvation
12 stars
13 beautiful things
hidden track: i’ll be alright
the roxette-melodies always have been catchy but my wish would be, that the lyrics should go a little bit deeper, i mean, the should be more critical and equivocal “... tears came down from the sky, rain out of my eyes ...” such things :)
have a nice summer, rock on, JOYRIDER

@ Judith I know - and in some cases I feel very sorry for them! That poor girl on the DVD (on Really Roxette) who iscrying and desperate for a photo or whatever...Oh My God! I would give myself a good slap if I got like that...
... but I guess everyone’s different!

First thing’s first, while I understand your annoyance and frustration, caps lock (which translates into yelling on line) is annoying as f*ck. If you want folks to carry on an intelligent conversation with you, you’ll want to keep this in mind.
Second of all, people change. Musician’s styles change over the years. It’s a fact of life. The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Queen, AC/DC and others don’t sound the same as they did when they first started. Wanna know the BIGGEST shocker of all time?
Pink Floyd used to be INSTRUMENTAL!!!! Yeah!!! That was before they did things like “Dark Side of the Moon” and “The Wall”. Look, you don’t have to like Roxette’s changes. In fact, if you don’t like it that much, why bother listening to “Room Service” at all?
