rox on :P

Not so bad idea: +46703537710

Nice idea! Really!

But I won´t never write my number here! ;o)

Hope you got my SMS, dubacik!?

’Tis a bit silly writing your number on here... why don’t you e-mail your numbers to each other... slighty less risky.

I hope you have fun SMSing each other. I wouldn’t partake in this, as my mobile provider charges the earth to text foreign networks.

silly or not here´s mine : +49 174 9528 259

@ Vaxjoe where are you from??

I can´t understand why people are writing SMS at all. Since there is the possibility of writing eMails I really don´t understand it... The only “problem” with eMails is, that you don´t see it at the same moment when someone is sending a message. But people are writing so stupid things per SMS which can really wait. you can write about 160 letters in one SMS and pay 0,20 EUR for it. I don´t understand that... Calling with the telefon (even in other countries) is so much cheaper than SMS. The little text you can write in a SMS is said in about 20 seconds... so why spending so much time on writing??? Why not speaking with each other? That´s what I really don´t understand.... strange... ok, if it makes fun to someone, he can do it of course... it´s just that I really don´t understand it at all....

Thanx Roxmaniac. I got your SMS but I don´t have credit now. Waiting still for money from family. Sorry!

That’s an expensive fun!

Hej Galning! I don´t think, that they are writing hundrets of SMS per day!

it would be nice if somewhere along the line an aol or irc chat would be populated again the irc one is always empty :(

on my page you can find now a new chatroom...in the right frame at “CentreChat”.

Though it is a German page, you can join the chatroom to talk in English language of course, too!! :-)

Would be nice to see you there!

I think SMS is fun, it’s a lot cheaper than calling someone on the phone, especially at peak hours. An SMS always costs the same, like 0.09 Euros, while making a call from my mobile phone at peak hours, especially if I call a nuber outside the mobile newtork, can cost up to 0.4 Euros per minute. Galning is right that what you can write in 160 characters can be said in 20 seconds, however, when you write an SMS, you are most likely waiting a short answer, like “yea” or “nope, it’s okay”. But if you call someone and ask that question, you probably never hang up the phone after 30 seconds (well, only if you are in ’Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ :-D). So in the end you pay way more than sending an SMS.
Most cases, 160 characters are quite enough to let someone know about something. However, most Nokia models support long SMS, that is, you can write up to 460 characters - and if it’s still not enough, you can still write an e-mail from your mobile phone, there are dozens of WAP sites where you can read and write e-mails.

So, if someone wants to message me, here’s my number: +36302642665

I think that we can use the internet for communicating in real time...there are lots of chat rooms and forums to chat together...if you want to comminicate via sms...ok, it’s your problem, but i’m sure that there are many people who can’t afford a handy or sending sms but would really want to join our community. and to change the commuinication-base to a sms-base would mean that less people can join that...if you understand what i want tosay :-D

PS: I think it would be a good step to add a chatroom at TDR...

I wasn’t talking AGAINST having a chatroom or using the internet as the main communication platform. But you can’t spend all your time in front of a computer, while your mobile phone is always with you. You can use it for most of the things you’d do on the web. Write e-mails, browse sites or even use ICQ or Yahoo Messenger with your mobile phone.

i did understand that you weren’t talking against chatrooms and so on. i only said that there are some people who can’t afford it, that’s it ;-)

@ vaxjoe: Xpovia Polla! :-)

yes sometimes we need that kind of conection...

i hope Pietro remembered my weather reports from Wien, when the hungarian group start their trip to Austria:-))))))))

Yea, I remember :-D

But... didn’t you miss one number from your mobile phone number? In my phonebook you are listed with an extra 9 after +35... and you seem to receive my messages with the extra 9...

I am an sms addict too, it is a fabulous invention!! Especially as I am not home during the days and have no PC access. The phone is with me though and it is on all the time :)

pietro now i got your number >:)
i will sms u soon

NOTE: i suggested this kind of communication cause i thought its faster and more direct than emails...and funnier :) thats all.

In Finland SMS cost 0.13 €... Well they are getting cheaper, but I don’t have so much money to spend...

But it’s always nice to have some SMS ;)

Here is my number: +37061205782
Lithuania
Rimas

KiX

:]

P.S.: by the way, I pay only 0.03 Euro per sms. :)

thanks pietro... i edited my massage...

i pay 0,07 EUR for it:-))

Well, of course, if you call from the mobile phone to other countries it´s very very very expensive. But why not call from the normal telefon? I can call from germany to america for about 0,05 EUR per minute every time! I just mean that it is sad that people write SMS because you lose the REAL contact to other people...

For example: Some friends of mine are sitting at home and they know for sure that I´m at home, too. But they send me an expensive SMS! The question is: Why? Sometimes they are calling me on the mobile while we are all at home. Isn´t that strange. Those people are having “normal” telefons, too. And those people are always saying that they are having problems because they have not enough money.... that´s just why I start to hate mobile phones... it make´s some people becoming stupid... ok, sometimes it´s easier and cheaper if something can´t wait and is very important. But I still think that being in REAL contact and to hear the voice of the other one is still the best thing.... And if I would pay only 0,03 EUR for one SMS I would maybe maybe do it more often....

I think a TDR chat room is a great idea, something which I suggested a long time ago.

btw, cskendras, I cant get into the centerchat on your page, all i get is a gray screen. help?

Actually I have cancelled my fixed line telephone subscription cause I don’t need that. Absolutely no use for it. If I wanna call abroad, I use a VOIP service, which costs exactly the same if I’m dialing from a fixed line phone or a mobile phone. The monthy subscription fee of the wired phone is higher than the mobile phone’s, and the latter contains several free services (such as free SMS messages, caller identification, call forwarding, whatever). OK, a wired phone is cheaper for those who like to talk a lot with people ion the same city or district. Or it’s okay for older people who enjoy keeping in touch with the ones they know that way.
But you can hate mobile phones, that’s your life, not compulsory to use them at all.

BUT. One thing is absolutely untrue. Using mobile devices as part of your everyday communication does DEFINITELY NOT ruin or make the way of communication any worse. On the contrary, it increases communication between people. There are tons of occasions when you wouldn’t normally call someone, but you just want to let him/her know of something, so you send an SMS. Those people using mobile phones usually keep in touch with more people and they communicate about 30-50% more than those not having or not using mobile telephones. This is a proven fact.

The way people are communication nowadays is changing drastically. About 15 years ago, in my country, there used to be many areas where fixed line telephone networks were quite poor, you had to wait quite a lot to for a connection. Now, there are way more mobile phones than wired ones. Broadband internet connections are quite common. People are using these new channels of communication and they are definitely satisfied and happy with it. I know, read several surveys and essays on it - and wrote a dissertation on this topic :-D

Certain people say that the inetrnet and the high penetration of mobile devices makes communication unhuman. That’s not true at all. They say “these days people don’t even know their neighbours”.
Well. I don’t know my neighbours neither. And? Who cares? I’m talking to way more people every night on the internet or by SMS. I’m happy with it. Cause I have a lot in common with these people - and probably my neighbour has a completely different opinion on life, so we might not have anything in common... Also, I do meet many people personally.
Your all-time favourite topic on Small Talk, Jó napot, Magyarország was started on the internet. I met several people here, later on, 50 of us travelled together to Vienna for a Roxette concert. Many of us keep in touch by SMS or e-mail - and some of us meet regularly and party together. Not to mention the fact that I met my girlfriend here :-D

So, over all, I thinkit was an excellent idea from Vaxjoe to start this topic. It’s a good way to keep in touch with people. If you don’t want to, then don’t post your number here.

Cheers,

Pietro

@pietro: I just LOVED your explanation! I feel the same and support you!

+62 811 814 563 or +62 817 848 528, let’s give it a shot!

Very good dissertation Pietro:-))!!

Galning -you are right about ppl who right SMS to other ppl in your country- i hate this things too>:-I...
but didn’t you make a mistake about “I can call from germany to america for about 0,05 EUR per minute every time” cos from normal telefhone ,conection from me to Wien cost 2 EUR in my country??

but in the metter of fact i make a several calls from my mobile phone to others countries- Sweden,Austria,Hungary– very expensive–but as Pietro said-“People are using these new channels of communication and they are definitely satisfied and happy with it”

i even can use other- free for me ways to comunnicate with ppl but just can be satisfied anymore with this kind of conections..

“Certain people say that the inetrnet and the high penetration of mobile devices makes communication unhuman. “
Yes-“That’s not true at all.”
the ppl makes conections human or unhuman.....

have i to dial any code from my country to another with the mobile phone to send SMS ?

the numbers here are with the country codes actually. You just have to write SMS and send it to this number.
If you don’t have the code when sending message to another country you can check on some sites, e.g. www.sms.ac . (but here are not listed all mobile operators in some countries, or they have more variations for beginng of the number, this is not updated in the site)

dan- if you in my country you must dial 088728460, from your country you must dial 0-out of your city ,0 out of country,359 code of my country + number 88728460
so it’s 0035988728460....
but ppl you can use the internet for that-even if you don’t have mobile phone but you whant to contact with ppl with mobile phone- and IT’S FREE...
as inganakee_leo do before 5 min and i’m back– Hi inga:-)))

another example for internet conections- we conect with inganakee 6 month by internet but after that she and one other girl teach me on figure skating–thanks girls!!!- i never forget that- the scars on my body doesn’t let me do it:-)))
the internet conections some time are very real -and hurts:-))

roxchurch, I’ve got scars, too !
yep, extremely ’real’ . I’m always the one, sending SMS :-)
www.sms.ac - it is free. international. and not only for peole who don’t have mobiles, and for the ones, who don’t want to pay for SMS but have i-net connection. hey, that’s the way so many people communicate today! I found it easier sometimes just to send SMS instead calling someone on the telephone. When you have to say sometihg like “OK, I’ll be there at 5”, or, “Thanks” it is some way better to send SMS, especually when you don’t know the person well. (just I prefer that, I do respect your opinions). pietro said it perfectly, look at the 1st page :-)

It’s the best way to store numbers in international format in your mobile phone.

Like, my number is +36302642665 is international format, however, from inside Hungary, 06302642665 works, too. But it’s the best to use the ’+xx’-format, where ’xx’ is the international country code.

now i send you one SMS with + to check this:-)))

Got it.

it’s works:-))
sorry Pietro- my boss give me a litllte + money today and i’m like in the june afternoon:-))

inga-i will give you a cake– not ice cake this time - don’t worry!!– send sms to others:-))

you have to dial the whole number you see posted here- including the plus in front of it. 2 first digits tell you which country it goes to - for instance +46 stands for Sweden, +49 Germany, +30 Greece, etc.

roxchurch, to who other?? IPPIE?

to all- it will be a big cake:-))
i think only one person no mobile phone:-))

oh, come on, the others got away from this topic! :-/ (when we started to talk).

SORRY!!

that’s me, by the way! ^

Wrong topic. Edited and removed.

from Spain which is the code ?

dan-rox: just type +xx, where xx is the contry’s international code

for IRC: go to Quakenet: #rfo
