Australian radio campaign

I am incensed. Basically, I’m sick of the way radio stations treat Roxette in Australia. Whenever Roxette is mentioned, they go out of their way to rubbish the music (although they never say just what is wrong with it), and mock those who like it - particularly Triple-J.

For example, on Thursday nights Triple-J has its J Files, 3 hours devoted to a particular subject. Usually this is a band, but this year, once each month, it will be devoted to a year of the 90s. This time it was 1991. Joyride was suggested by listeners, and of course this was mocked by the host and a caller (no, get it off, get it off, as if the caller were in pain while the first few seconds were played).

This, of course, from a radio station that specialises in playing music with little to no tune or melody, poor lyrics, lots of noise, from groups with small singing ability. I suppose that being successful, selling millions of records, and making music that lots of people want to listen to is a bad thing...

Despite Joyride being one of the biggest singles, albums, and tours of the year in this country, they refused to play it or anything from it.

So, next month the year for the J Files show will be 1992. Would anyone be interested in, during the week or so before the 1992 show (probably the last week of April), bombarding Triple-J with suggestions for the various Roxette songs that were released that year as singles? And even B-sides, as I understand Silver Blue was - that
got mentioned by a caller in a B-sides J Files show a month ago, but of course the host refused to play it, because it was by Roxette. Not because it wasn’t good, but because it was by Roxette.

Why do you listen to this crappy station???

what a shitty radio-station!!

Who really cares anyway?! It´s just a radio-station.

I listen to it occasionally for two reasons - lack of radio stations in this area, and the fact that they do play decent music some of the time.

I’m just sick of their unreasoning abuse of Roxette and the people who listen to them.

So, are any Australians interested or not?

Do they alienate another band or this is only for Roxette?

Hey Squigger,

Nowadays in Australia it seems every station hates Roxette, and you know up until a few years ago it REALLY got to me but now I really don’t care anymore.

I’ve accepted that they probably won’t ever have a hit song in Australia again (unless a miracle occurs) and so I’m just gonna enjoy them for myself STUFF the rest of them they are missing out not me!!!!

That said I will still help you if you want but Triple J is the last station I would imagine playing Roxette anyway!!!

Its the same all over the world (appart from a few unbiased countries) why get upset about it, it only makes you mad at them and then you start a campaign and they get mad at you for always calling, always emailing etc etc and what happens in the end.....nothing.....everything is still the same as it was.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. ;)
