Party Crasher set for UK release; Gessle talks about future plans
Written by tevensso on May 1, 2009 to Exclusive, Per Gessle and Releases.
Per told The Daily Roxette yesterday that "Party Crasher" ia now slated for release in the UK. The label releasing the album is not EMI/Capitol, but Sony! Release date is set for June 15. Per, who along with his management has been working on getting such a record deal for some time, is obviously quite happy about it, saying "Miracles do happen!" The Party Crasher tour hits London this Monday, May 4.
Meanwhile, TDR correspondent Steffen Hung conducted an interview with Per on behalf of HitParade.ch (and sister site HitParad.se) at the venue in Zurich, Switzerland the other night. (Also available in German.) Per says he's "just having a blast" and that "this is one of the most rewarding tours I've done," despite the fact that "it's the only tour where I'm losing money."
Per also talks about his future plans, and once again says he "thinks there will be more Roxette." "I think we can still do some more records and events together. I look forward to that if it happens."

At last Per!!! Congratulations!! I personally think that Roxette should have changed labels after “Joyride”. Lets hope it will be big in the UK so that next album gets released by Sony al over the world.

Very opened and very interesting interview. I’m very excited what will happen in the Rox world in the near future.

Great interview! Sounds promising. I already thought that Per loses money with this tour, now it is confirmed. I’m still grateful he does the tour at all. It’s simply fantastic.

EMI always - well, I was going to say ’sold them short’, but they didn’t really sell them at all, did they, doing sod-all promotion...
I hope this means any future Roxette album is going to appear elsewhere too, and will get better treatment from its label.

Great interview, very interesting! Note that Per still doesn’t confirm or deny the Roxette performances.
As for the UK release: Good, but I wouldn’t expect big promotion efforts from Sony. Simply because it isn’t likely they make big sales with it. Nobody wants to loose money.

Well I didn’t see this coming!! Great stuff!! Just a shame it’s after the concert!!

Oh My God !? What a shock I just had ! lol. Uk release ? Well, I look forward to seeing it in the shops. I might even buy it (although I already have both editions of the Swedish release - I held off on the normal one for a while but got it two weeks ago - D’oh !)

Love you! Puss.

It’s the first time he talks about “events”...
Maybe it’s release after the “first” show in london. Maybe he adds more shows in the future or some promo.
Don’t we all feel almost like the old fans we used to be? So excited these days only about the rumours what will happen when it becomes true!?
I can’t wait for that day
Per you could lose some money here in Argentina too!!

Yes, I agree. It’s a nice article. Anything regarding the UK is always good news. First, the London gig, then the BBC interview and finally the release of the album on Sony! Great piece of news. Thank you.

Great Interview! Thanks for that!! And again thanx to Per for involving us into his 50th birhtday present for himself. HUGS

I had wondered if this type of tour would have been financial viable for Per.
Some of the venues are just too small to generate the type of return Per would need to cover the costs of the band, crew and transportation. So I guess this interview confirms my suspicions.
This being the case, I’m really grateful Per has adopted this attitude to “share his birthday” with his fans. Myself personally, I’ve not seen Roxette/Per sing live since the CBB tour in London 94. So I’m really looking forward to Monday evening.
As for the new album deal. It’s a little late considering the album has been available since 2008, but any change has to be a welcome one considering the neglect from EMI over the years.
Hopefully, this is all an omen of some great Rox times to come.
Nice one Per!

Great news about the UK release...
Don’t worry about losing money Per... it’s not everything in life, as long as you keep your fans smiling! :)
chrisjankunas said on May 1, 2009 19:10:
@steven
I agree wholeheartedly with you. I’m so grateful to Per for this tour - it means I can see him live, something I never thought I would get to do. I’ve never seen Roxette live, I seriously doubt I ever well - but this makes me feel better about it - which is why having read this I will have no problems getting a copy of the UK release of Party Crasher! and helping to support an artist with more integrity than most “artists” out there today.
CRIZ said on May 1, 2009 21:51:
By the way: Was somebody from EMI at the Cologne concert? I hope they’ve seen us rocking!!!! And I hope they understood something!!! What’s their strange slogan right now : Good music is better?? Yes indeed...EMI WAKE UP! It’s not the age of the artists it’s their music that counts!
RobS said on May 2, 2009 00:25:
Sony?! Never saw that coming. Hopefully it leads to bigger and better things in the future.
You would think that they would try and push the release forward, to coincide with the hype that the tour brings.
I didn’t think Per would have been making a crap load of money on this tour, but for him to pretty much confirm it’s costing him, that’s quite amazing. Good on Per for doing it anyway.
Hmmm, “I would love to bring the PC tour to South America or Asia or wherever.”
*Crosses fingers for Australia*

Once he said that he would love to continue the tour in the second half of 2009, as he thought it was too short. So, who knows...

Welcome Sony, bye bye EMI!!!!!
Hope this is the end of EMI contract.
Sorry EMI but “you bore us, get to the rubbish!”

Roxette have not sold more albums because of poor promotion that EMI has done for so many years. It’s time to change the label (At least Per, I hope Roxette records too) and regain lost ground.
stevier said on May 2, 2009 10:08:
According to EMI Netherlands Party Crasher is released here since friday.
Newspaper AD today publishes a quite favourable 3 out of 5 stars-review of the album. Not online btw...only to read in the Weekend section of the paper.
Cheers!
Raëlian said on May 2, 2009 15:12:
Cool down a little... The fact Sony is going to manufacture and distribute “Party Crasher” exclusively in the UK does not mean any future (or possible) Roxette release will be distributed worldwide by Sony too. Both Roxette and Per solo records are licensed to bigger labels through Roxette Recordings and Elevator Entertainment. It was Sony in the UK right now, it could have been Universal or Warner.
I don’t think there’s a “contract” with EMI any longer. These days, EMI only gets an “exclusive license” (as stated on the CD’s) and the right to distribute their records.
TheRain1981 said on May 2, 2009 16:54:
Raelian, good point. I think that you are right. I like the idea of Roxette being in control of their own recordings anyway. Well, if the U.K. can get a release what about the U.S.?
chrisjankunas said on May 2, 2009 17:05:
Hmm I wonder if the Sony release will be available on iTunes. I say this since EMI already has it released on iTunes in the UK store... And how about a nice bonus track Per? lol a person can try, eh? =p
As for Sony I have been on plenty of Message boards before (I think it was Celine Dion’s..?) where they complain at lack of promotion, VHS concerts not released on DVD (any of this sound familiar?) So whilst I’m thrilled that Per has got a release over here I wouldn’t expect Song to be any different to EMI in the great scheme of things.
tevensso (moderator) said on May 2, 2009 17:52:
Per is still working on a deal for the US as well. There are a few labels in the talks.
Solas said on May 2, 2009 18:07:
Yeah Criz - I was at the Cologne gig. Absolutely great! Haven’t seen Per since the Roxette concert in Dublin 1994. But it was worth the wait. Excellent selection of songs from Rox days and some super solo stuff also. Here’s to more from Mr. Gessle - in English, Swedish or with Roxette!

Any idea if Sony will go with a single off the album or will we just get the album? I hope there is a single release here, that would help the album.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on May 11, 2009 12:48:
You can now pre-order the album from play.com - release date is still 15th June! Nothing on HMV or Zavvi yet though
pwbbounce (moderator) said on May 14, 2009 09:45:
it’s seem Sony like to make it hard for people to contact them. I’ve made a couple of phone calls, but unfortunately no one is either available to talk to, or they haven’t got any info on the release.
I’ve only seen the album available fon play.com, it doesnt appear on any other online retailers (that I’ve seen).
I’ll keep trying, and post any info here
ettexor said on May 1, 2009 09:15:
we hope that the Sony, make the necessary promotion in UK so that the album will be a success!
