Gessle Tour without Helena?!

Hi roxers, great to see Per live! Helena as lead singer I would ignore it in the concert. She should sing in the background, that were enough. Cheers Christian

Well per has already said he would sing lead vocals on some roxette songs that marie had previously sung, so Helena should only be doing backing vocals. I’m sure Per is aware that a lot of fans wouldnt really like Helena to take marie’s vocal parts completely.

I dont mind helena and have no objection to her singing backing vocals on some of the rox hits, but i think i would be uncomfortable if they sang a Marie song like FLAF or SMT with her on lead vocals. I know they wont do that though

Per has already sung on FLAF live before during the Room Service tour, so that isn’t a problem. I reckon he’ll sing a few Rox-hits but do them in a different style that suits him better. It could be interesting!

The way Helena sings could not suit Roxette songs in any way.
She is too slobbery for me ,sorry.

i agree with pwbbounce , but i think we don´t have to waste time if Helena is or not the right to be on stage. Some want and English record, you got it, then a tour, and you got it! please enjoy what you have! Per won´t sing and tour forever. I have to travel 12.000 km to see Per and what´s the deal if he wants to sing IMHBL with Helena? for me it´s Ok, it won´t be the same because Marie is the one, but for me is something i could deal with...

I’d say Marie WAS a great singer and performer. Sadly, she’s not anymore (maybe only a 10% of what she used to be). Whatever, these Roxette purists/fundamentalists really make feel sick. If you don’t want to see/hear Helena, just don’t book any flights or hotels and stay at home watching the 6 o’clock soap opera. She’s not gonna be replaced just because you don’t like the girl. You don’t have to torture yourself by attending these shows, it is not mandatory to go there.

I wouldnt want the band to be playing and Helena to be belting out that tune.....not that I have anything against helena, but it just wouldnt feel right. There are still a lot of rox songs where per sang on lead vocals anyway, and helena could simply back him up. I have no objection to that. I also see no problem with per doing his own take with his own vocals and singing a song that marie would normally sing, which is what he hinted at on the front page. There is a reason why marie sang a lot of the songs instead of per, and her voice suits a song like IMHBL (as an example) much better than Per, but at the same time the way a song is performed can be adapted into a different style that might suit his voice better.

Lets face it Marie wont join Per on a tour, at least not now, so whats wrong if Per wants to sing his songs live?? couse he wrote almost all roxette songs!,
I want to listen to those songs live again so whats the problem if instead of marie, is per singing together with helena?? I know that it wont sound as roxette but it isnt meant to sound that way!. I guess is just a way of making nice new versions of all those great songs that both Per and Marie shared with us some years ago.
So lets just enjoy the tour and stop discussing about helenna vs marie all the time, couse its a nonsense discussion that it wont take us anywhere.

The tour is quite clearly labeled as “Per Gessle - the man from Roxette” so some Roxette songs are to be expeected in a Per-led kind of way.
I doubt very much that Helena will be singing IMHBL but if Per wants to do songs like Opportunity Nox, Almost Unreal (in the style of the demo - same with any other song), or even one like How Do You Do (Per-led song and hardly ever played live by Roxette) I don’t see any problem with it whatsoever !!!
Also, having heard Helena sing “Theme From Roberta Right” I would say that, actually, she *is* capable of having the rocky “spark” that Marie had back in the day. So if Per wanted to do a song like HDYD, I would have no problem with Helena singing the chorus - just as she does in Party Crasher songs.
A final note (lol) Dolores O’riordan does HER Cranberries songs solo - with other people playing the instruments that members of the Cranberries played, Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits also, Celine Dion sings duet songs with the original artist replaced by somebody else. It happens ALL THE TIME... accept it !

We really should move on from this - Helena is not Marie and no-one says she is.
Per will do the songs as he sees best and I believe that will be good - and it’s great to see him outside of Sweden after all this time.
As for Helena - everyone will have a view about the voice (as they will with Per) however that’s life and she really is friendly when you meet her.
Lets all enjoy the Party and show Per just what support he has around the place, still.

No Roxette-song is holy! Shame on you for talking about Helenas performances in that way. She is a serious artist with a special voice.

Some people seem to forget the string of awful ’singers’ that have recorded countless versions of LTYH, IMHBL or FLAF. Like D.H.T., for example. And everybody’s happy with that! And now you don’t want Per (who happens to be the composer) to sing them if Marie is not on stage too. And Helena is not allowed to sing back up vocals on them either. Do you prefer some obscure and talentless ’Idol’ guy or girl singing, and even releasing them on CD?

I doubt everybody is happy with the covers, I don’t think I have any of them home/in my pc, but anyway, we had this topic many times before and it always ended up with insulting eachother.
