In no specific order:
- Crush On You
- Fool
- You Can’t Put Your Arms...
- Waiting For The Rain
Maybe not today, but fitting to the charts of the late 80’s/early 90’s:
- Perfect Day
- Knocking On Every Door
- Paint
- Cry
- I Call Your Name (I know, it was a single, but they choose this terrible remix as a-side)
- So Far Away

I believe that if the second single from HAND had been Crush On You or 7twenty7 or Stars (almighty) or Pay The Price, it wouldn’t have flopped like Anyone and HAND would have sold much more, and maybe there would have been HAND tour...
Another songs with single potential: Surrender, Hotblooded, The Rain, My World My Love My Life...
ettexor said on May 22, 2008 20:03:
It is true, to hand, had to leave, as the second single, a song more rhythm and that was known to the public, the new techno-pop sound of roxette (songs like crush on you or 7twenty7).
Anyone not represented nothing new, although a beautiful song ..

How Per choses a single? Why not asking some fans also for their opinion ? Same goes for the websites Why not work with some fans for the design and content?

I thought it was the record company who have final say over what gets released and what doesn’t?
mixella1 said on May 22, 2008 22:38:
It must be that because some of the choices are wrong, looking back over the years. Sure there are many great songs that didn’t have a chance. EMI or whomever choses the singles, stop wright now. Make some studies, ask some listeners, some buyers !!!

@mixella1 - what, ask us mere mortals...you’ve gotta be joking! ;-)
abysmo said on May 23, 2008 02:17:
Per said some years ago that he wanted to release Stars as a second single, but EMI wanted Anyone. There was also done remixes for Crush On You, but EMI stopped releasing COY as a fifth single because Per and Marie were in the studio recording Room Service. As Per said - EMI - Every Mistake Imaginable. Combination Crush On You / feb ’99, Stars / jun ’99, Wish I Could Fly / oct ’99 could been really killer and HAND with this modern driving singles could been more successful than CBB, which is great, but sounded out of date for ’94.

I definitely would pick either “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around What’s Already Gone” OR “I Was So Lucky” “You Can’t Put...” is by far Per at his best lyrically and “I Was So..” could definitely be heard on the “lite FM” radio stations. But, my all time favorite would have to be “Wish I Could Fly” because here in America it got very little notice...go figure, right? Typical record label bull@$@ once again. Fat chance “Breathe” or “Beautiful Things” would ever see the day light though they are in my Top 7.... Cheers!

I think as a single would be nice following songs:
Things will never be the same
I’m sorry
Every Day (with a modern guitar end like my immortal-evanescence)
and i personally like the song crazy about you
Wicf said on May 23, 2008 16:15:
@abysmo: I thought that Per wanted COY to become the second single... I’m sure he said in 1999 , that COY was going to be the second single from HAND and that COY remixes had been made.

From Look Sharp album: I could never give you up and Paint
Joyride: Knocking on every door and Things will never be the same
Tourism: Cinammon Street and Here comes the weekend
CBB: All songs were huge singels...:-)) best rox album ever in my opinion!
HAND: COY, Pay the price
RS: Looking for Jane and Try
Best of 96: I don‘t want to get hurt
Best Pop songs: Little miss sorrow
Best of Ballads: Breathe
Cheers Christian

Hi all,
I do not want to go through every album as until C!B!B! they had a lot of success; in my opinion.
But from HAND I wished they puplished Crush on you or 7Twenty7 as well as a single and not Salvation. Anyone was great, but Salvation was more than unnecessary. They should give something more powerful to the markets. Anyone was after Wicf enough “ballading”.
ChrisWilliams said on May 24, 2008 11:17:
I think EMI choose Roxette’s ballads as singles (such as Wish I Could Fly, Anyone and Salvation) because that’s what people kind of expect Roxette to do release. To the general public and many radio DJs, Roxette = It Must Have Been Love.
The Have A Nice Day album was different and fresh for Roxette, so it is a shame that the singles chosen were more typical of Roxette’s history - But EMI’s reasoning did work with Wish I Could Fly... they just couldn’t sustain it with the follow-ups.

And that’s the reason they should have went with something different, like COY or 7twenty7. Peoples interest was stirred with WICF then hit them with something they weren’t expecting.
Back on-topic: I always thought that Keep Me Waiting was a great song that would have been perfect for radio. And COY to be a release for HAND.

’I Do Believe’ was never recorded or released by Roxette. It was only a demo for the Norwegian singer Hanne Sorvaag (aka Paris).

Well, in my opinion, it was (perhaps?) wrong to release “Tourism” in 1992. They should have taken “things will never be the same” or “(do you get) excited?” as followers of the singles they released from “joyride”.
After that there could have been different ways to release even more singles (and earn more money): release of “tourism” with the singles “hdyd?”, “the rain”, “cinammon street” and “keep me waiting”. In 1995, the C!B!B! album could have been released, later than it actually was.
Possibility two: Integration of the tourism classics as “the rain”, “cinammon street”, “keep me waiting” on C!B!B! in 1994, while releasing just singles as “hdyd?” or “almost unreal” in 1992/93.
Back in those days (1990-93) roxette wrote lots of really great songs. it’s a pity that they couldn‘t release them as singles...
That’s my opinion, if you ak me.

Crash! Boom! Bang!: Im Sorry ( instead of ANY of the singles after SIMC)
Have A Nice Day: Lots of mistakes here, Like a lot of people say: CRUSH ON YOU!
Theres no more obvious single candidate than COY. And It Will Take A long long Time ( promoted as soundtrack to Runaway Bride) would have been much bigger than both Anyone and Salvation....
Room Service: Right singles but MATAH should have been relased before Real Sugar.
This is my opinion anyway=)

I understand that crash on you, we would have wished all, those who become as a single ...
7-Twenty-7 said on May 25, 2008 22:31:
“It Will Take A Long Long Time” as a single could have be their biggest flop ever. Come on, the song has no hit potential. The fact 10 seconds of it were used in a movie doesn’t help much, as nobody noticed it.
Roxette-atic said on May 26, 2008 15:16:
Bigger flop than Salvation?? Dont think so... And we are talking in “what if”-terms.. I imagine the song having a better position in the movie off course..

I´ll always be for Entering Your Heart, it could´ve been a massive hit. Not so much typical for Roxette but sounds great . Don´t still get how come it´s been buried as a B-side track though its hit potential is comparable to other RS singles, maybe even stronger.
ettexor said on June 11, 2008 20:28:
maybe even crazy about you, could be a potential single, if it was contained in an album and not as b-side...
martyn hay said on June 11, 2008 22:37:
martyn hay a good roxette single should be she doesn’t live anymore or even i don’t want to get hurt
7-Twenty-7 said on June 12, 2008 01:42:
“She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” was a single... and one of their worst flops ever! Nice video, though.
@ Roxette-atic:
“Salvation” is a very painful and powerful ballad. It didn’t get much promotion, sadly. But “IWTALLT” is absolutely boring, repetitive and lifeless. I’d say I skip it 90% of the times I play the HAND album. That kind of ’acoustic’ songs don’t work well as singles.
piotrek6 said on June 12, 2008 18:37:
I do thik that it’s dificult to decide for rox fans which songs would’ve worked if released as singles. We really dont have very much needed rox outsider point of view. Therefore i can only say what my friends liked over the years when I abused them with roxette music.
LOOK SHARP - PAINT,CHANCES
JOYRIDE- DO YOU GET EXCITED, TWNBTS
TOURISM-COMEBACK BEFORE YOU LEAVE
CBB-LIES,IM SORRY
HAND-COY,YCPYAAWAG
RS-MY WORLD.....
7-Twenty-7 said on September 7, 2008 23:40:
I don’t think “Lies” could have been a success as a single. It’s a bit tough sound for Roxette, they have a... softer image. No need to say they are more remembered by their ballads.
PiterPam said on September 13, 2008 11:16:
Crush on You!!! without a doubt.
I would replace it for Anyone. Anyone is too long-breathing to be a single, sry. Salvation is an epic song. But besides WICF and Anyone one ballad too much. Also with a disaster of a video.
7twenty7 was in my eyes too owerproduced. The demo is much better than the albumversion. Besides the demo the albumversion sounds soo bad.
For RS i would pick Fool. Great melody and guitarsound. Born to be heard on the radio.
And at least: I would never release Best of Albums over and over again. Besides the COY mistake, the worst mistake done by Roxette/EMI.
coyboyusa said on September 13, 2008 13:23:
what killed anyone as a sin gle was the prduction value not the song itself. I have a traqnscript of an interview per and marie did where they gauranteed the singles from hand would be crush, wicf, 727 and salvation. But later on per admitted that the let emi choose the singles in the european market because they actually trusted emi europe to do the right thing. Hand still sold alot more than anyone was expecting. They could never have sustained 5 million units per album, and i thinmk alot of interest in the album died as soon as they said they weren’t touring behind it. The only song they should have not been a single off hand was you can’t put you arms....it sounds like a friggin demo for godsake. ANd best lyrics not really. Salvation would have been much bigger as would have stars if they didn’t have such miserable videos
so say we all
7-Twenty-7 said on September 13, 2008 14:47:
90% of the songs of HAND could have been worldwide smash hits if properly promoted. Just imagine a song like ’Salvation’ or ’Beautiful Things’ being sung by someone like Céline Dion (this is the first example that comes to my mind). I am absolutely sure it could have been a hit. Same about ’Opportunity Nox’, a great song full of hit potential. It sounds modern and at the same time it has the guitar riffs that all the fans adore. But it was absolutely wasted, sadly.
Back to the HAND singles, I’d arrange them this way:
1º Wish I Could Fly (the perfect opener, no doubt)
2º Crush On You (maxi single including the yet-to-release remixes)
3º Stars
4º Salvation (in time of X-mas)
abysmo said on September 13, 2008 15:48:
I agree but uptempo songs are better 1st singles, so my point of view is
1. Crush On You (no.1 in Sweden for sure) feb. ’99
2. Wish I Could Fly may ’99
3. Stars july ’99
4. Salvation oct. or nov. ’99
or It Will Take ... as a promo for Runaway Bride movie
plus
5. 7-Twenty-7 or You Can’t ... jan or feb. ’00

look sharp album: sleeping single, dance away or paint
joyride: things will never be the same, watercolours in the rain, knockin on every door
crash boom bang: what’s she like, im sorry, do you wanna go the whole way?
pearls of passion: surrender, call of the wild, one heart to another.
have a nice day: you can’t put your arms around...., i was so lucky, 7twenty7,
room service: bringing me down to my knees, try ( a little bit harder), it takes you no time to get here
tourism: heart shaped sea, never is a long time, come back ( before you leave)
PiterPam said on September 14, 2008 11:27:
I disagree with 7twenty7 (i mean the song). The first time i heard the demoversion i was shocked what per does with this song in the final cut. For me, it was always an albumfiller. All these Synths sounds cheap, the whole song without a real refrain...very boring. The guitars on the demo, the whole rocksound fits the song thousand times better. But ok, it doesn´t fit to HAND. He should kept this song for RS. 7twenty7 T&A is one of my favorite Roxsong and 7twenty7-album one of the songs i don´t like and always skip.
The whole problem with HAND was, that except of Stars, all singles were Ballads. But not from a caliber of LTYH or FLAF, more like CBB. very long-breathing. People get tired of this. Anyone was in my eyes a mistake too. A good song, but overrated to be a single.
I would pcik this songs in order:
COY
WICF
Stars
Salvation
YCPYAAWAG is nice too, but the title is much too long :) All other songs aren´t really good enough to be singles im my opinion.

I always thought Pay The Price was a very typical Roxette track and would’ve been a good single choice from HAND. But, like the majority here, COY should’ve been the lead single! Without a doubt!

I think they should have released HAND version of TCOTH as a single. I’ve never heard it, but I bet it’s cool, like most non-ballad songs from HAND era
btw The album version of 7twenty7 is much more interesting than the demo, which is just a simple rocker for me.
I personally like guitars in the album version of 7twenty7 more than in the demo version (the great guitar solo in the beginning is missing from the demo). The last refrain is very powerful and it has much better ending than the fade-out in the demo.

Well, I’d like to make a list from each album I think songs that should have been singles too:
Pearls Of Passion = Like Lovers Do
Look Sharp! = Paint & Sleeping Single
Joyride = Small Talk & Things Will Never Be The Same & (Do You Get) Excited?
Tourism = The Rain & It Must Have Been Love (new version)
Crash! Boom! Bang! = What’s She Like? & Lies & I’m Sorry
Have A Nice Day = It Will Take A Long, Long Time & Beautiful Things & Crush On You!!!
Room Service = Fool & Looking For Jane & Make My Head Go Pop
The Ballad Hits = Breathe
The Pop Hits = Bla Bla Bla (You Broke My Heart)
