I was just thinking as you do ! Is per due to do a best of CD , would be a great idea i think for next year. Just like with Maire’s Äntligen album. Which was great. Im not sure on track listing as i dont have all his albums but, some from each would be good :). what you think ?

If you mean Best of CDs > well, yes! No needs nowadays.Everyone can customize own (best of-) compliations (playlists). No need to buy the same songs more than one time, don’t you think?

Best of CDs are aimed for the casual public, that don’t buy everything that comes from an artist and only want the biggest hits all compiled on one CD. It has nothing to do with playlists, I thing.

Its really stange then, music artists sell a bucket load of GH/ Best of/ albums then isnt it lol.
joyrider said on August 31, 2007 17:06:
lol ?? Do you really think that’s funny? Strange.
Today you can customize your Levi’s or your Adidas, why should you buy a ’Best of CD’ with ’the best songs of band’ chosen by someone else? Who says that those songs are the best? Isn’t it nicer to buy just songs YOU like best and put them together on your player?
I would like to listen to NEW songs on a NEW album with a NEW concept.
The only good thing on Greatest Hits compilations is the ’new’ artwork and pictures but if you take the latest Roxette release, that argument doesn’t work either (for ME).
I kinda have the feeling, you’re on the side of the industry and not on the buying public’s side.
Cheers.

Ye ill tell you why i think its funny, cos its nutty how into everthing everyone is, with such open minds aswell and i think its funny. That ok by you ! im gonna say no though! lol.
Some of us dont have all of Per’s albums, how can you choose the best songs off an album if you havent heard them ? Some people aswell still have; god forbid cd players ! ow the shame of still having and buying cd’s ! whats the world coming too. If only we all could afford good enough computers and then download songs once we ”borrow” them off a sharing program to listern to them all, then use our new cd buring drives to make the best, best of. Well ill guess we will never see another cd released every from marie and per. and a Per gessle will never release a best of/ gH compliation of any kind . shame... .. .

Joyrider, I am not on the side of the industry. But you have to understand there are people who don’t know every song by Per Gessle (or any other artist). Thus, they can’t put the CD together by themselves. They have to trust on somebody else’s taste, to get the “best of” a certain artist: usually the singles that charted higher. It doesn’t mean they are the best from a musical point of view, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
I don’t think it’s nice to buy just songs. That’s crap and just a marketing strategy, and killed completely the concept of “record” we had before: music plus a suitable artwork that looks like a “whole”. I will never move to iTunes or paid-downloads. I prefer to spend more money, but to get the real thing in a physical support.
The negative side of any ’best-of’ compilations is when they include new tracks that were not previously available. Then you (or me), the stupid that bought all the previous albums has to buy the compilation as well to get the new songs. That’s very typical in the Rox discography, and very annoying.
Compilations are not a problem if they only include old tracks - so it’s aimed for general audiences. If I you want to listen to NEW songs on a NEW album with a NEW concept, just but the main albums and everybody’s happy. But there’s not Gessle ’best of’ on the way, this is just speculation. No need to be worried.

Maybe the Aftonbladet CD was a taster of a double CD of GH to come from Per in the future… I do hope so!

Icegirl funny you say that , because thats what i thought aswell thats why i put this topic up.

If someone doesn’t have the song(s) or the chance to buy them online, a compilation CD would be fair enough but as I wrote before, it doesn’t make sense to pay twice for one song.
It’s clear that the whole album means more then the sum of its single tracks (that regrettably doesn’t count for all bands/artists...). But we’re talking about GH here and in my opinion the only ’concept’ behind a compilation (with old songs only) is to fulfill a contract and earn money.
Thank God, or better the human mind, no one get’s forced to buy this or that.

I think in times of iPods and iTunes (or similar home made-playlists and MP3 players) there is NO NEEDS for ’Best of Compilation-CDs’ at all!
