Roxette is no longer - now what?

Even without Marie's recent admission that she no longer expects to record with Roxette, anyone with a half of a brain could see that the writing has been on the wall for quite some time. I'm going on the premise that we'll never hear a new Roxette recording with Marie's voice. So what do all of you think is the next step for Roxette, if any? Does this give Per the green light to bring Helena on board (I hope so) or is Roxette gone forever?
Gachy said on August 30, 2007 23:29:
It’s ok if Per wants to make a new duo with Helena. I don’t think that’s his idea, though. But in that case, they should think about a new name for the group, ’cause that’s not Roxette. I hate when they change the formation of the group many times (even the main vocalist) and they keep the original name.

Roxette was, are and will be Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson. No one else in the universe can replace her.
And Mats, Anders, Micke and Goran ofcourse in the very begining in Heartland ages. (some thousand years ago :-)
If Helena or any other female singer will sing with Per, than in SOAP, solo Gessle or some new band album, but definitevely not in Roxette´s. I think that Per even Helena feels it same.

Now what? Now we have to stop complaining about the Roxette’s future! We are all adult enough to notice that nothing lasts forever. It’s madness thinking about Roxette without Marie. If they want to go on, I will be thankful for the rest of my life, but if they won’t, I will respect. Nevertheless I love their solo and other projects. That’s It.

It doesn’t come as a surprise to me,we’ve had 20+ beautiful years of roxette & i’ve had the privelidge to see them twice (92 &94 in sheffield),lets not forget that marie, per & the gang have got families to consider & they aren’t getting any younger.Having been in the music business for a long time i suppose the novelty wears off, maybe marie just wants a quiet life around her family (i for one can appreciate that). The most important thing is that we have our own memories of what roxette has achieved & what roxette means to each & everyone of us,we can always put on our favourite cd,play our favourite song, sing along to our favourite song & even play the dvd. When i was born (1971) now i’m showing my age lol, there has been some great bands (too many to mention) that has been & gone & roxette will definately be up there as one of my alltime favourites,so now i’m sat here just reminiscing with a can of lager in hand & i’d just like to raise my tin & say a big thank you to marie, per, the band & everybody associated with roxette for everything they have given me i.e (happiness, joy, excitement, love, friends).

@plectrum: I totally agree with you. It’s nice to live a life with the dreams regarding Roxette but as you wrote they will not get younger anymore. I am Roxette fan since... ... I am not counting the years anymore and thanx Roxette I met wonderful people which became very good friends to me, have a lot nice memories. But on the other hand I have also nice memories from Per’s, Marie’s and the other band from Halmstad projects and tours, so why not accept that Roxette is probably over and keep the fingers cross for their future whatever they will do?

Shame on you!!
What’s the point of such topic???
To provoke?
There no such official info and -is it the first thing to ask and wondering about?
and the part about the brain is odious.

If Marie is happy to call it a day with Roxette I can accept that and look forward to her solo stuff more and more… I would really love to see Per record more stuff with Helena – she’s fantastic not to mention gorgeous!
@ Plectrum, very well said!
rox-kuryliw said on August 31, 2007 09:16:
i agree Emil__BG. 100%
BTW most fans dont have a clue who the hell helena is, so dont even go there about them making a new duo, its just stupid!
christian said on August 31, 2007 11:09:
Yes really stupid; Helena and Per= new roxette, Who are we? It were the same like the Bealtes without Paul Mc Cartney! C‘mon Marie... your time has come.
Stop this stupid discussion.
Krischan said on August 31, 2007 15:10:
And even IF Per should consider replacing Marie with Helena, which I’m as sure as hell he does not intend to, it would still be his own concern.
Stop this stupid anti-Helena attitude! No one is gonna take away your toys.
Icegirl said on August 31, 2007 20:18:
As much as I would like to see Helena working with Per loads more she would never replace Marie or form a new Roxette... Per wouldn’t do it, for now Helena will continue to do backing vocals.
... after all Helena doesn’t need to be part of a duo she’s successful on her own!

Why don’t they do a Bye Bye Concert(if that’s true what it says in that interview) coz many other Bands did that like ABBA for example!

The point is EMIL BG if roxette does actually decide to dispand/call it a day then we should be prepared.

Prepared for what???
Oh, c’mon nobody is dying, it’s not the end of the world.
Besides, would you be really surprised if Roxette called it quits? Because I wouldn’t, signs have been very clear in the last few years.

@ MISS-MISERY
We all have to be prepared about losing something we love wether it’s now or in the near future,i don’t want to get into any sort of silly arguement because it’s not my style.
DownloadJunkie said on September 1, 2007 02:45:
Although unofficial, I think it’s a pretty accurate statement. Marie just doesn’t have that drive anymore for Roxette, and that is very understandable after what she has faced.
Emil__BG said on September 1, 2007 07:28:
“we should be prepared”
Prepare for what??
Who are you???
Per Gessle ot EMI director??
But even if you must be prepare for something–you shoudn’t do it with such topics...
One think is -to be prepared for something and the other to insite Roxette split up by saying “Does this give Per the green light to bring Helena on board (I hope so)”!!!!
That is the point of such topic!!
And stupid war between fans.
Helena has her own music (difrent from Roxette and Per Gessle-solo music),her own band ,they are even on tour right now, so i thinks it’s time for her to get out of Per Gessle shadow and show her own potential ,which is quite big!!
DownloadJunkie
Where you’ve read that “Marie just doesn’t have that drive anymore for Roxette” , where you’ve read that she don’t want Roxette ,that she and Per dicide to end Roxette . She just said that they have other project..
And we all know that ..
But as Per said few times in august ” The door for Roxette is not close!!”
“I’m going on the premise that we’ll never hear a new Roxette recording with Marie’s voice”
How many of you wrote such words before Roxette 20 -years CD???
Never say never!!

ABBA didn’t. Their last tour was in 1979/early 1980, and they stopped producing music together in 1982. They said they were in a hiatus, ’cause they all were involved in solo projects. But they never released an official press release about the breaking-up of the group.
Falco said on September 1, 2007 07:58:
If Roxette days are really over, the only thing to do is to accept it. They’ve given us loads of superb music and it’s their right to stop whenever they feel like it. The stupidest thing of all would be bringing in a new singer. It would never be the same. And personally I don’t believe Per has ever considered this...
@Kathrin: ABBA never did a farewell concert, in fact they could hardly have done it, because they never split up officially :-) Actually they’re still on a break (a permanent one, though) :-)
sportsfan said on September 1, 2007 08:15:
Falco, you are quite right. This is how it is normally done, I suppose. From a financial point of view it is not really sensible to break up officially unless there has been a major argument or fight within the band. Even Police did not split up officially, I think, nor did the Eurythmics (who indeed came back, as we all know). And why should they break up: the band and its music still exists it’s only that they don’t record any new material. I think that’s fair enough.
I kind of like the idea that Roxette still exists even though it’s dormant. And I am not sure whether I should like the idea of an official break up. I cannot see the rationale of that.
shammes said on September 1, 2007 13:30:
I for one am in favor of bringing in a replacement for Marie, whether it is Helena or someone else of Per’s choosing. It’s not like it hasn’t been done successfully before in other bands…Genesis (Phil Collins for Peter Gabriel), Van Halen (Sammy Hager for David Lee Roth), Journey (Steve Augeri for Steve Perry), etc.
Per’s still really into making Roxette music and Marie is not. Why not let Per have some fun with an updated version of the band? Would people be more accepting of Vicki Benckert than Helena? Someone with a tie to Roxette?
roxlad said on August 30, 2007 22:10:
Never say die! Look at Take That... Duran Duran... anyway Roxette is Per and Marie and no one would ever dream of changing this. If Helena gets on board it won’t be on the Rox-boat and that’s for sure ’cos Per said it straight.
