Where's Roxette?
steven said on May 6, 2007 23:14:
I consider myself a typical, average Roxette fan.
Typical and average in the sense that:
- I like their music.
- I enjoy buying their CDs.
- I don’t live in Sweden.
- I don’t speak Swedish.
- I don’t buy Per/Marie solo material.
And yet... it is now 6 painfully, long years since I was able to walk into my record store and pick up a new Roxette album and enjoy 12 or so new tracks.
(Greatest Hits albums don’t count).
Why?
Per! Sort your business out!
nusaderenda said on May 7, 2007 09:17:
Yes, give the solo stuff a try. I was a bit sceptical to all Pers projects, but the Son of a plumber album convinced me. But there’s a lot of it I haven’t bought...
ncurran said on May 7, 2007 21:18:
What exactly do you expect Per to do? Hold a gun to Marie’s head and force her into the studio?
Debora said on May 7, 2007 22:10:
Of course not, we don’t want that.
What I exactly expect from them is: “Ok, guys, Roxette is over” Even I dream about a new album, and I really want to believe there will be another one, deep inside I feel Roxette is over and I think Per and Marie think the same. I only want they to say those words, that’s all.
abysmo said on May 7, 2007 22:30:
Last year it was really nice surprise that we’ ve got some new songs from Roxette. Nobody believed this could happen, even Per. So I belive that there will be more surprises in the future. Marie knows that we miss them so much and if she manage that she is able and wants to open another Rox chapter, she certainly do this.
oriole said on May 7, 2007 23:05:
Songs as well as any kind of culture are created only if there’s some need inside an artist to express oneself. it’s absolutely stupid to make Marie create. One day she will wake up with a beautifull song in her heart and give it to us.
phoenixsamudra said on May 8, 2007 07:34:
Do u agree that an average roxette fan does not buy the solo records???????
Who does by them then?
never been disapointed with any solowork even though i don t speak any swedish at all
conradnel said on May 8, 2007 08:20:
DO YOUSELF A FAVOUR!!!!
Go out TODAY and buy Marie’s solo albums, especially
***Den Standiga Resan
***I En Tid Som Var
You will LOVE them!!! I’m still waiting for mine from amazon, as it is NOWHERE to be found ANYWHERE in South Africa! Do it Do it Do it!!!
AURYTE said on May 8, 2007 15:55:
@phoenixsamudra: I think, that Per and Marie have their own solo fans. On the other hand, their solo fans buy Roxette albums as well. So it’s like a circle.
I’m waiting for a new Roxette album as well. But I don’t want to push neither Per nor Marie into studio. Let it happen naturally :)

Debora said on May 8, 2007 20:25:
Well, I don’t buy their solo albums. I have only bought Marie’s GH and Per’s TWATG. I also have got another album by Marie and another one by Per but because they were a gift.
To say the truth, the only point in common I find between their solo-albums and Roxette is that both, Marie and Per are Roxette. But it is not the same, I love Roxette music, but Per without Marie or Marie without Per doesn’t convice me.
steven said on May 8, 2007 21:01:
If I were Per I would put together a stunning collection of 12 Rox-tastic demos and give them to Marie to listen to and then say “How about it Marie?”
If Marie is the issue then inspire her to want to make Roxette music :)
ncurran said on May 8, 2007 22:07:
I think that the situation is very different now because previously Per would always push Marie to do work with Roxette, although some of the time she just wanted to stay in Sweden with her family nowadays. After her illness he has pretty much left it up to her to decide if/when she wants to work with him. He did say it was her idea to do something for the anniversary. I think sooner or later she will want to do something, but I may be wrong. I think Roxette is still in her blood though. She even mentioned a “mini tour” would be fun during the One wish promotion, so you never know....i wouldnt give up hope yet
Kenfred8350 said on May 9, 2007 15:18:
Your right, all us Roxette fans can do is wait and see what happens. No one can deny that something magical happens when Per and Marie get together and make music. And it seems that it can’t be duplicated when they are solo. No band has ever had more surprises up their sleeve than Roxette and hopefully they won’t disappoint us now!
sreky said on May 9, 2007 17:21:
HI,
I’m from Czech republic and I love Roxette too, but i think that solo material of Per or Marie are very good. It’s original their language. Can you listen song Spegelboll from Mazarin album? It’s a fanstastic song !!! Also Marie, Per, Gyllene Tider have solo albums in english, do you know? Son of plumber - it’s a swedish album? ABBA recorded also swedish album of their hits, do you know this album?
Yes, it’s true that more song of Roxette or more albums of Roxette, but now Marie is ill.
rox-records said on May 9, 2007 17:40:
A) As the title indicates, Son of a Plumber is in English.
B) As long as I know, ABBA never released a whole album in Swedish. Only Swedish versions of their early hits were recorded in their native language.
C) Now Marie is ill? Luckily, she’s not ill anymore. Marie totally overcame the cancer.
The Pop Hits said on May 10, 2007 11:30:
ncurran you are always such childish...
You know what... Marie and Per really insult us fans with such a selfish behaviour! Rox on!
C´mon Room Service 2001 was long ago! After that...only Greatest Hits cd‘s! Time for a new album in 2008.

This is the point where I feel glad for being a Kate Bush fan. Why? Cos it taught me patience! They will record new material if and when both of them are ready and available, and not before. And nothing we do or say will change their minds, not in a month of Sundays...
’Even if I am in love with you. All this to say, what’s it to you?’
coyboyusa said on May 11, 2007 00:17:
speaking as a long time rox fan not of european reidence I will say that i’ve barely had any interest in their solo material as well unless it was sung in english. I have maries box set, it collects dust, and the only reason i have any of their swedish material is either from online sources or stuff people sent me, it just doesn’t compare to rox material in my eyes, especially when the translations of most of the solo work make per and marie sound like illiterate 4th graders
and in regards to rox-records assertion to her getting ” over cancer”, the cancer itself may be in remission but I think we’ve been seriusly misled as to the dammage the turmor marie had did to her ability to handle motor functions, let alone her memory and language skill which she has said were sriously effected by the removal and or chemo. She’s really in no condition to ever tour again, and frankly I don’t see any reason for her to push for another rox release is she isn’t up to pomoting it. Personally, I’d rather per close the book on Roxette for her, and every year give us a live album or a rarities cd, we know there’s still a plethora of stuff he has there he’s not putting out for whatever reason. I dunno but as a rox fan seeing all the energy emi puts behind pers solo material as of late is really disenhertening. Roxette was a cash cow for emi and the lack of support they’ve shown them as of late in terms of promoting releases speaks volumes about the future of roxette. Unless per and marie paln to only use emi as a distribution source after roxettes contract ends, I don’t forsee anything new from them anymore
Jud (moderator) said on May 15, 2007 09:36:
isn’t it obvious that none of them is really interested in Roxette anymore?
I doubt it has to do 100% with health anymore, they could surely release an album and do very little promotion - after all, they did a lot for HAND and RS and they both didn’t sell well anyway ;) Or Per could take care of it, or or or.. I’m sure that if they BOTH wanted to, we would (already) have a new Roxette album. But it is clear that Per enjoys his solo stuff and Marie hers, together with the painting. There’s not much left to do: accept it that it will still take a while to get new stuff or start listening to their (great) solo stuff :D
The Pop Hits: Selfish? You are funny.

Sorry but you do not need to speak Swedish to but Swedish music. I bought Look Sharp back in 1989 and my English was not much more than “Where are you from? I am from Barcelona.” Also, we must accept things change and that people have personal lives and personal priorities. Roxette was always at least two people, it is not in Per’s power to make us all happy.
Just as thankful fans of Roxette let’s wish them the best and just hope they choose to come back one day...
Sorry but sometimes we forget Per and Marie are people too.
RobS said on May 15, 2007 12:17:
I agree with coyboyusa about the EMI promo of Rox vs Per, it doesn’t look good.
If Marie wanted to call it quits i’m sure we would have known about it by now. But the fact that Marie herself mentioned “maybe a mini-tour” in the future says to me atleast that she is still willing to go on with Rox, just when she’s ready.
Like coyboy said, there should still be no reason not to release a disc of b-sides/rarities/live CD now and then, there’s bound to be something hiding in one of Per’s drawers. I’m still waiting for the old VHS releases to be transferred to DVD!

But their solo stuff...esp Den Ständiga Resan & Mazarin!! Den Ständiga Resan is one of my favorite Roxette-related albums there is. But I do miss Roxette more than anything else. Please Marie!! ;)
Roxreporter said on May 15, 2007 18:01:
I buy their english solostuff.
I loved TWATG and SOAP.
I like most songs on “The Change”. But I think Marie’s solostuff is more different from Roxette than Per’s. Exept “Bad Moon”, that could be a Roxette song.
I’d like new Roxettestuff, but only if it’s inspired music. Cause for me, there is a big difference in inspiration between “CBB” and “Room Service”.
CoyRoy said on May 15, 2007 19:48:
I read some of your posts here and most of you seem to think that the writing is on the wall: Roxette is over!!
Well, I, for one, REFUSE to believe that!! I still have hope and I still think that Marie’s voice kix ASS and I still think that Per has a lot of songs in his workaholic brain.
Roxette, for me, is NOT over!! There is always hope. I haven’t heard any fat lady singing as of lately.
Let’s all be positive!! Roxette forever!!!!!

I do agree. Remember the day when they came back with HAND. It, at least for me, sounded, and still does, differently from all they had made before. Because HAND was fresh, no matter what critics could say. So now, I think, it will be much better for us to wait, and for them to take over, again.

Both sold over 1 million copies. Is that little? You cant sell 8 million copies of your each album. Even Michael Jackson does not :)

sure, but still, didn’t sell as good as the other albums. I think even the Ballad Hits sold more ;-) Anyway, this is not the topic we are discussing here :)

some of the comments on this post have been unbelievable and come across as being both selfish and extremely immature.
‘steven‘ starts off by saying that he hasn‘t been able to buy a new roxette album for 6 years and then almost demands that an explanation is needed - he then goes on to say “if marie is the issue then inspire her to want to make roxette music” - this doesn‘t even deserve a response.
‘the pop hits‘ says “marie and per really insult us with such selfish behaviour” - there‘s only one response needed here. GROW UP!
it was also nice to see the ‘coyboyusa‘ felt he had the right to speak about marie‘s health on her behalf - i found that to be insulting.
marie and per have provided us with great memories and brilliant songs and from the bottom of my heart i thank them both - but that doesn‘t mean we own them and that they owe us anything. if they do record any more songs that will be great but i‘m certainly not going to hold it against them if they don‘t. as someone posted on here - sometimes we forget thet marie and per are people too and have private lives that deserve both privacy and respect.
the only thing i agree with is coyboyusa‘s image of emi/roxette. i‘m not sure if roxette have parted company with this record company yet but the record companies are notorious for only being interested in an artist/band if the company can make money out of them - the way they are treating roxette proves that point.
AURYTE said on May 20, 2007 21:28:
I totally agree with everything that frankie has said.
As for the topic, I really miss Roxette very much. Sometimes I think, that I won’t be missing Roxette that much if I lived in Sweden. Then I’d have the opportunity to enjoy Per’s solo career, Marie’s as well, of course, cos there are quite a few articles about them in newspapers. They also show up on Swedish TV promoting their solo stuff. But for the fans from the rest of the world, the only way to keep updated in Roxette world is the internet. Luckily, we have The Daily Roxette :) But still, you can’t compare a website to listening to Roxette’s new song on your local radio...

Well even if you dont want to buy swedish records, why not give the 2 English solo records we’ve had from them since then a try?
It’s pretty obvious why we havent had a Roxette album. It will happen when (or perhaps ’if’) Marie wants or is ready to make it. There is a distinct possibility that it won’t happen at all.
